I’ve always noticed that smokers don’t care about their OWN environment or health. They’re sure as f-ck not going to care about ‘yours’! It’s a waste of time talking to them. They’re miserable drug addicts.

If your cigarette smoke is bothering your neighbors ( especially if you are smoking indoors in an apartment building), you should pay a monthly fine that will reimburse your neighbors for the costs associated with your smoking, for example, ruining your neighbor's clothes with your cigarette smoke.

In one of my past apartments, my neighbor's cigarette smoke was coming through my air vents in my bedroom especially. I went to the apartment office about it and all they said was, "We can't do anything about someone smoking in their own house." I had to buy air purifiers to put in the upstairs part of my townhouse b/c that's where the biggest issue was. And some incense sticks. That's how I got through that nightmare until those neighbors suddenly moved out. After they moved out, my apartment smelled normal and fresh again.

I HAVE A PROBLEM WHERE I LIVE WITH WOOD FIRE SMOKE AND OUTDOOR FIRES ESPECIALLY RUBBISH BEING BURNT BUT THE LOCAL COUNCIL HERE ISNT MUCH HELP AT ALL. NOW IM A REAL BIG SMOKE HATER. NO ONE WOULD HATE SMOKE AS MUCH AS I DO NOW I AM GETTING SMOKE FROM WOOD HEATERS INSIDE MY HOUSE. THE WORST TIME IT HAPPENS IS EARLY HOURS IN THE MORNING LIKE AROUND 2AM. THE PLACE WHERE I LIVE ITS PITCH BLACK AT NIGHT AND YOU CANT SEE A THING. ID LOVE TO KNOW WHO IS SENDING THEIR FILTHY POISONOUS TOXIC SMOKE INSIDE MY HOUSE. EVEN WITH WINDOWS CLOSED THE SMOKE STILL GETS IN HERE, ITS SHOCKING.

This is exactly what I'm doing. 4 air purifiers, 2 w carbon filter, run constantly. I'm thinking of getting a 5th carbon purifier. Incense at least once a day. On top of candles and carpet freshener. I should try vinegar to spray the walls too. Ugh. Thankfully it's only in the back bedroom/office. But I have asthma and allergies and I'm sensitive to this crap. The guys upstairs are drunk idiots. Hope they get what they deserve one day...karma is a mofo.
How long did it take for you to see results from the air purifier? I'm in the same situation, we got it a few days ago and I feel like it still smells like smoke. It's such a horrible situation.
@@livingdeadgurlll I have 2 different purifiers in the one room that wreaks like smoke. Unfortunately there's always a smell lingering as long as he's smoking inside. So I crack a window, burn candles/incense, carpet freshener...almost daily My one air purifier is nice and I have it in high a lot ..both of them honestly. It sucks. Thankfully it's only the back bedroom I don't use. But I have 2 other purifiers in the other rooms too. I spent like $400 alone in the air purifiers 🙄 hope you can find peace in this situation And hope they move out sooner than later!!
@@holls9723 oh okay I see. Yeah I feel like my neighbors smoke indoors during the night time. It's a couple so that makes it worst since it's two of them. When it's daytime they smoke outdoors so it affects my living room and bedroom. They've actually lived here longer than us but I feel like complaining since I have a child. I have chain smokers next to me and now pot heads below me, I live in a 4 family and these new tenants below me stink up my entire apartment with their weed...I'm so fed up, not to mention they smoke with their little baby on their home. This is BS... my home is supposed to be MY sanctuary but w/cigarettes and now Marijuana I'm spent! I can't afford to move now, nor do I feel like I should have to these people piss me off my nose is stuffy, my eyes burn and my jaw is tight from being stressed out. I hate this, why can't people be considerate of others?
Trust me I understand! I swear I’ve scrubbed my bathroom walls with purple power, bleach everything. I’m fed up even my cloth makeup bag smells like smoke and my shower curtain. My husband asked me when I was changing the theme to the bathroom I said never! I’m not buying nice stuff to have it soaked in smoke.

Nope not anymore because the steam droplets 💧 are freaking brown tar! And to makes matters worse we live above our in-laws. So i can’t even say anything because his family will think I’m being mean.

@@aireannetoni I can’t even say anything to my “neighbors”. Why, because it’s my in-laws. And we’re already living half rent cheap $300 a month. But my bathroom decor yeah it’s cheap and a lot of it I made or painted but it smells like smoke. Even my two makeup bags I threw away (old anyways) but I went to tjmaxx and got plastic box shaped kind because the cloth ones took in all the smoke. My sponges smelled like smoke. It got so bad that I literally had not drive to clean my brushes and sponges I just didn’t wear makeup for like a month. My husband was like what’s wrong I’m like go smell my make up bag and just walked away.
For anyone living in apartments above or below smokers, the BEST solution I have found if smoke is coming through your HVAC, is to shut off the HVAC and buy either a space heater of window AC unit. Charcoal register filters and multiple air purifiers, and Ozium did not fix the problem, a space heater and shutting off the heat was the only way I could survive this. A cheap space heater can easily warm and entire apartment with all doors open believe it or not. Other methods will only mask or slightly help air quality, the only way is to ensure 100% of the smoke is not being blown into your apartment
I have tried a space heater, but it tripped the breaker cutting the power to my entire apartment. I have 3 air purifiers and 3 dehumidifiers going at all times. It's really running up my bill.
It's too hot to open windows now too. So much misery due to inconsiderate pot and cigarette smokers.
I asked permission to put in a window/ac and my landlord refused.

My neighbors smoke on every side.I hate the smell.I wish they used common sense and figure out that if they love smoking so much maybe smoke inside their darn house and stink their home up.But no they come outside near your windows and stink the neighbors house up.I think they should be fined for damaging our home,furniture and clothes with their smells and fined for causing other people to have health issues with their second hand cigarette smoke.

What if you don't have central air? The smoke is coming in from my bathroom fan and stove hood (I am a middle unit townhouse and my neighbour to the left of me is a heavy smoker and we have no windows in the bathroom or kitchen.) and we gave done air sponges, diffusers, sage burning, left the windows open in the rest of the house, we have used fans... I don't understand what can be done? The crazy thing is when we purchased we didn't smell this smoke for the first 3 months and now we are. If I smelled this during showings I wouldn't have bought the house.

I have the same problem specifically with the bathroom fan and stove hood. I just leave the stove hood fan on all the time now. The smell can't come down that way. I found turning on the bathroom fan actually made it worse in there though, so I'm not sure what to do about that. I hope your situation has gotten better.
I went crazy and I ordered 8 deafferents hepa air purifiers, let's see if it works also, I was told to get outlet sealers, so I ordered, but it comes from the walls, outlets, baseboards, all over. I'm asthmatic and this doesn't let me sleep, eat good and I practically don't have a life lately. So I'm looking to move, I just finished remodeling my apt...it's a shame but it's driving me nuts
Just been through the same thing where my neighbors strong smoking smell was so strong like some sort of strong burning chemical smell took over my whole house where I was living and making me physically sick. I bought a whole bunch of fans and air cleaner and air freshener. Their habits was so bad like 24/7 around the clock.
I had to eventually moved out of my house to a new place and again dealing with the same thing all over again. Now I am going to be moving again.
I got carbon/HEPA filters and those work well on high when I smell smoke. I burn incense once a day at least too.
@@holls9723 I am going to small claims court to sue the landlord next store. The tenants smoke skunk weed almost 24/7 and I know they are selling it. I have banged on my walls with my feet and one tenant threatened to call the police. HA HA the police won't come the noise brothers them but it's ok to poison my lungs and devalue my townhouse.
The smoke is coming up from my neighbor apartment. It comes through the wood floor.
I have emphysema and the selfish, sneaky, lying, tweek that lives in the apt above me smokes ALL day and night. This is a non smoking complex. The owners aren't on site so she just lights up whenever she feels like it and it's coming down thru my vents. I am in hell and I can't breathe. Idk what else I can do to make her stop. My lungs hurt so bad and I'm so scared she is going to kill me
If you can't bare it, leave and rent somewhere else assuming you are renting. Firstly I would speak with her, but record convo. If it goes badly put your rent money elsewhere. Your health is more important than someone's selfishness. You could by scented humidifiers and a large fan lights but personally I would get.
Having to move over a smoker doesn’t necessarily fix the issue because you could end up in another apartment that’s worse or where there’s another smoker. If have fans you can aim it towards your windows so it blows the smoke smell back out. Get air purifiers, as those can help reduce the toxins a bit. Both options are better than not doing it.
I'm having the same problem, with a next door neighbor, who smokes weed, day and night. I bought this large industrial fan and air purifier, nothing helps.
The smell comes through the vents, walls, every place. Just stinks up my apartment.

This annoying neighbor old fart keeps smoking in his apartment with a no smoking policy. It comes through the walls. How do I get the smell out since management is lazy
I can't really do anything more about the smell. I use fans to exhaust air out of my apartment, I bought outlet plugs and I use incense. But at least reading the comments it's nice to know I'm not the only one who is dealing with this and that some people even have it worse than I do. I wish I could move, but the price of rent in my area has doubled and even if I could move there wouldn't be any guarantee that I won't have the exact same problem.
There are just too many people on stacked on top on each other, literally. People aren't considerate of others. My last neighbor played loud music all night, the other neighbor bought a cat then lets it roam around, it killed a couple of my plants and destroyed the screen on my door. This neighbor smokes. I just want to be left alone.

Most effective way to get rid of cigarette smoke is water mist, basically very small droplets. They attach to the smoke particles and make it fall to the ground.
Use a pressure pump like for a terrarium and attach a few feet of tube to it. One nozzle every 2 feet. Couple the pump with a PM25 meter via a smarthome setup.
Everytime the neighbour lights up, the water mist will stop the particles in its path.
I'm trying this now. I live in an apartment and I have a smoker above me and beside me!! It's awful. The smell is so strong you would think they are in my apartment. I hope running the fan helps but its winter and I would rather not be cold.

I live in a single family home but my next door neighbor smokes outside. The smoke comes in through my air conditioner. I can always tell when he is outside smoking (and he just had triple bypass surgery!). The smoke makes me nauseous. I am going to try the fan. Just turned it on and initially it seems like it is making the smoke smell worse. How long does it take to get better. My house is 1500 sq. ft. My chest even feels tight from the smoke. It is just awful!!

My neighbour SMOKES inside the building… our ducts are connected, it’s an old building.. all the smoke gets on my food, everywhere, I’m on the last floor… everything raises and gets here.

I have complained soo many times to the property manager and the council and yet they all said they can't do anything except bear with it !!

It comes through my bathroom vent which the maintenance guy told me connects to my neighbor. So...it's not rocket science then. They just don't care as long as rent is coming in. We were told coming in that if you violated any rules you would be evicted. Whatever....they don't want to lose the rent. As soon as i can afford to move i will.

My neighbor is smoking some kind of substance where it was burning my skin.. I'm highly allergic to many allergies I go into anaphylactic shock..My doctor wrote my landlord a letter he did absolutely nothing. It was coming through the base of my floors now he smoking cigarettes and substance and it's coming out of my heating vents...The sad part this idiot is smoking right under my bedroom. The truth of the matter is I'm totally disabled and a senior citizen I'm learning through this situation nobody cares...As soon as covid subside and we're back to normalcy I'm moving...Never again will I trust anyone.

Oh neighbor of mine came over to lie about the fact he didn’t smoke and blame it on someone in the rental property next thing you know he’s actually the one smoking and it seeps into my bathroom. I’ve contacted rental property management to explain and they have no smoking all throughout the building but this neighbor of mine refuses to smoke outside and continuously smoke inside how do I get rid of him?
I work everyday and having to spend money to keep the air on all day while I’m gone is absurd. My downstairs neighbor is awful. Every time I walk by his window I want to throw up. My whole apartment smells like garbage and cigarettes. I’ve only been here a month and a half on a 12 month lease and I’m already sick of it. My furniture and everything in my apartment is starting to smell like it. Smoking is aloud here but it’s affecting my living situation what can I do ?
Their is alot you can do. Are your apts a SMOKE FREE complex? If so, you can call Fair Housing and file a complaint. Also you can either sue to break your lease early or sue them for monetary damages. If this cig smoke is affecting your health, or your quiet enjoyment.. then YOU have rights. Not the smoker. You can file a restraining order against the smoker, you can also call the police, or the Fire Dept. DONT WAIT to take action. Do not wait to get COPD or cancer... Stop this now cuz your worth it!! 💗

Yes, I moved here a year ago. It is disgusting the landlord had us here first 2:12 and the neighbor so she moved in next-door smoke weed. It is disgusting I suffer from sinus disease. I have complained in the beginning of the year that she needs to tell them to stop smoking it has not stopped. It’s become a joke. I cannot find another place because I don’t have the funds to pick up and go. We spent a lot of money moving to this place and she has no consideration. She is worse than a smoker. it’s disgusting. My issue is a townhouse with an adjoining wall, we have zoned baseboard heat so there are no fans. Before the pandemic this was not an issue, my neighbor worked a lot of hours and during the summer ran her air-conditioner 24 x 7, now she's home more frequently and her second hand smoke is a nuisance. Today I ordered an air purifier but friends told me I should complain to the health department. My concern is, how can I complain about what my neighbor does in what is her own home?

I’m in the same situation at my condo. I’ve got air purifiers with hepa filters. I’ve read there’s an air purifier called blue air that’s excellent for getting rid of cigarette smoke.
We own the inside of shared walls in Condos. Smoke travels through these shared walls so the smoker should be aware of that and respectfull.
I called to police they said there is no law for that to enforce people, they advised me to go through civil law. that is a long and expensive process.

I think we all need to contact our federal representatives, because there IS A NATIONAL NON-SMOKING BAN IN APARTMENTS! This is especially true on public housing and Section 8 LIHTC properties. This can't go on! ALL of us here have health conditions yet egregious landlords don't care! What's baffling is that according to the law, the tenant can be evicted for harming his neighbors and they can be charged for damaging the interior. Legally, apartments saturated in cigarette smoke are supposed to be condemned.
I think with what has happen in Florida, this should escalate Multi-Housing property safety issues.

I'm desperate too! I live in Sweden an it might be a bit different here than in the US and other parts of the world. I rent my apartment, been living here for almost 28 years and can not move as the waitinglist for a new rental is years! I have smokers in two apartments underneith me living at bottom floor that are out smoking 2 in the morning and out again for mornings first smoke at 4( i HATE them). Right now we have a heatwave here and AC is not a thing in Sweden. So it's only to open all windows, if i don't the air will be extremely moist inside and not breathable. + smokes then come inside from cracks and what not. We only have vents that drags air out and fresh air is suppose to come in from a small vent besides the windows. It does not work, it only drags more smoke in from cracks instead. I have complained at the landlord but they don't care. As it is allowed to smoke in the homes still there is not much to do. People are not allowed to play music after 22,00 or wash, but smoke...😞. I have asthma and have a new kind of treatment, a shot every 8 week that costs about 23500SEK per item, (thats about 2700$)called Fasenra(we get them free here). They help but the effect is greatly reduced because of my smoking neighbors. Also two of my three cats has developed asthma too😢. I tried to talk with one of the neighbors a couple of years ago but he treatend to kill me. Guess i only wanted to get this out of me, not much to be done about it. Tried everything except to hex them...😣

I have a very similar problem here in Norway. Asshole neighbor below me found out he should start smoking cigars daily.
REALLY needed this. my neighbor doesn't even do anything other than throw tantrums and smoke weed but it makes my entire house stink so bad but my brother doesn't do anything because he doesn't have a sense of smell and doesn't care abt it but it disturbs me a lot since i can't sleep or do anything without good air.
The cigarette smell seems to come from our forced air outlet from our HVAC system which is common to the whole building are there any solutions for this
What if the smell is coming from my basement where the central air unit is? I feel like it's just circulating the smell throughout my house.

They should set new laws in Canada.
Why people are allowed in their own property while their smokes flies everywhere else?
Why they say we share the air and they dont do anything about these people?
No one should be aloud to smoke in thier property if their property is less than 40 meters away from others property.
And also the monent you smell the cigarette smell, you are a second hand smoker.
Canada needs less smokers and more hardworking people who values their own health and others.

I completely agree. I'm a fellow suffering Canadian. My quality of life has greatly decreased since a close neighbour of mine has started smoking inside our apartment complex a few months ago (it completely fills up the hallway and thus my apartment as well and makes it hard for me to breathe). It's funny to me how smoking is banned in restaurants and many other places but not apartments. I'd rather smoking be allowed in restaurants tbh...I can deal with smelling some smoke for a couple hours while eating out but not be constantly tortured with it in my own home!

You can reach to your building office and discuss the issue. They will set a fine for your smoker neighbor.
Theres no law for residential areas.
@@26d8 The problem is smoking is allowed in my building though. I've lived here for over 6 years and it was never an issue...the hell only started a few months ago. A couple years ago, there was a vote on whether smoking should be banned in the building, but it didn't get passed (sadly).

The smoker in question seems to be a younger guy with anger issues too as I hear him yelling and cursing in the hallway sometimes and slamming doors...not exactly the kind of person I want to confront. When it gets really bad at times, I start coughing really loudly (I can't even help it) and he must hear me because then the smoke dies down for a little while (but then it starts right back up again within a day or so). It's just insane that it has come to this. I don't care if people smoke...I just don't want it getting into my home.
Seal the vents with plastic and a fan blowing air towards the. Entrance door and a towel in the door

Hi, I like your channel. I just moved into a 4 apt house. The apt has a musty smell. I believe some of it is coming in from rhe outside hallway which smells worse I noticed an opening on my door entrance on the side with the door knb. Is there an odor blocking sealant or something I can use to stop the smell?

I have a we*d smoker above me and below me!! I live in a prewar apt in NY and the smell is coming through the floor of my bedroom and I think the small air pockets of my light fan. Before covid I had considerate neighbors who lived here for years above and below!! Quiet and no smell. Dealing with this is annoying AF!! I'll try the fan trick, get an area rug that can cover my bedroom floor, swap out the fan light for a more enclosed light and draft strips for the windows. My place is rent stabilized so it's A LOT more cost-efficient to try these hacks and save and move into a house with NO adjoining neighbors then move in another annoying APT
I feel for you my new apartment neighbors are pot smokers. Of all GMO items they should of found a way to get that awful smell out of Marijuana, especially here in Canada where it's now legal.

Hi Shell. I doubt you’ll get in touch with me as I live in Britain, but my nuisance neighbours aren’t smokers, they’re air freshener junkies. I don’t have forced air, and there air keeps wafting up into my flat. More specifically into my utility room, and I dry my clothes in there, as a consequence all my clothes, towels and bed linens stink for what seems like weeks. Can you offer any advice please? Thanks
Can a bathroom fan be safely sealed? It doesn’t work for steam. And I don’t use it at all.
And what if you don´t have a forced air furnace!!!!!!!!!!!! Many of us have radiators.

my 3rd floor apartment with electric baseboard heating has 3 smokers living below me. the landlord insulated where the water and drain pipes are but it hasn't made any difference. the windowless bathroom is the only place its getting in so i run 3 fans and the ceiling exhaust fan. it helps somewhat but keeping a bedroom window open for cross ventilation in winter is not what i want to do. any more suggestions ? took everything out of bathroom vanity cause it smells and the pipes and drain are in there.
