Dude. You're coming back, with new discs. It's the first time in your professional life you're enduring a hard time. You will come back. Go easy on yourself. Be gentle with yourself, and shut that overly critic voice in your head that drags you down. I wish you the very best, cause I'm a fan of your game and your approach to the game and to your fans and life in general. Good vibes to you.
Agreed! Nice comment
Is it the surgery? Is it the new plastic? Maybe it's the meat. Stay sharp. Think clearly.
I mean agreed but stop. Don’t comfort him, it makes him mad ;)
First time? Eagles always injured ?
Don't listen to him it was me🤣. Eagle and I have very different personalities. I'm very upbeat, optimistic and talkative and I've personally found me talking to someone about the errors I made on certain shots ect instead of harboring that inside helps me through it. But obviously we are all different. Good luck to all your future endeavors eagle. At least having me as a caddie thought you about not having caddies if nothing else🤣
Bruh, it’s up to him to let you know. You stepped up cuz he asked, you did right.
@@nickreliford623 agreed, I would have done the same bud. Like you and he said, everyone is diff and handle situations diff. Saying that, if you don’t know that it is hurting more than helping, it should be vocalized imho.
Kudos to you for volunteering to walk for anyone for Champs cup. The weather was so bad
I know nothing other than what I saw on dgn and this video. You lack self awareness Nick. If you can't put yourself in check and shut up for 5 hours while your friend plays a life changing event, you're clueless. This weekend/video isn't about you. But your comment is all about you nick. You claim blame but don't apologize. You mention yourself several times and eagle once. At a place like Northwood mentality is everything. Instead of letting your friend play through, their way, on the toughest course in the world, you forced you way upon him. Tough look for caddies everywhere.
Nah dude sounds like you did your job just like Eagle said. He probably should have just toughened up and told you what he wanted after the first time, but he's a nice guy like you seem and didn't want to ruffle any feathers.
You restarted at the most difficult course in the world. You just showed us regulars how difficult it is to compete at your level. Technical, mental and endurance. If it was easy we’d all be doing it. You are world class, ease into the ice bath.
I just want to say I appreciate you Eagle. For a young buck you are wise beyond your years. Your willingness to be vulnerable and honest is remarkable. Thank you for sharing where you’re at and I can’t wait to watch where you take your journey. Rooting for you.
The altitude difference on disc flight blew my mind. I played in Illinois for eight years before ever playing in a higher altitude. Moved to AZ and played in the valley for a bit and noticed the difference immediately. Then I took a trip up to Flagstaff and my mind was blown! It's a must try experience for any disc golfer.
We’re rooting for you Eagle!
Just grateful to see you back on the course!
Awesome to hear your own perspective after a tough tournament. Great attitude. Looking foward to watching the rest of your season.
Still loved seeing you back out there! Rooting for a healthy rest of the season!
Great to see you back on tour Eagle! Appreciate your openness and long term view: it’s a journey not a destination. Looking forward to the West coast swing-you are going to rock it and we’ll all get to enjoy it!
Great to hear where your head is at. Time to start crushing! Excited for what’s to come.
Thanks for sharing Eagle. I know you’ll be much better the next tournament. Learn from this weekend. Laugh at yourself a little and you’ll be back where you want/need to be in no time!
I was one of the people who was walking with you for most of the round on Friday, and it was a tough one for sure with the weather and how rough the course was. Either way, I was mind blown by seeing the ability that you had, thank you for making the round super memorable! Also, I super appreciate you signing my Rebirth envy and glitch, even though the tournament didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, I'm glad to see you back! I have a feeling you'll get a win before the end of the season
Best of luck to you Eagle you'll get there. Thanks for sharing
Good evening, Eagle! it was very inspiring and motivating to see you out there! If I played Northwood Black, while the conditions were crummy, and if I was just getting into the swing of things, with a new lineup of discs, and a little back pain, AND at a very different altitude without being able to practice a reasonable amount, I think I would legit shoot 500 over par -- Honestly, I really do think each of the points you made are very valid, for what my opinion is worth. Very inspiring to see you! And, even if you were at 100% and shot 1000 over par, I'd still love you the exact same. You are one of the people I have in mind who does and has done so much for the sport in general, and the result is something so positive that I can't even put it into words! You and the other people I have in mind motivate me so much to get outside and go to the field / play a round. Thank you!
Also, your excitement for the future is contagious! And, big congrats to Ratana! Always rooting for you man, no matter what! #unconditional
We are all here rooting you on!
Eagle, you are an inspiration. All will come together, have faith ❤️
I appreciate the insight :) look forward to watching you play again !
You'll be back in no time. Looking forward to it! I got kind of lackadaisical lately as well in rounds. Started playing a lot more scored rounds for some side bets with buddies to get back into the tourney pressure. Hope it helps!
Eagle! Wishing you all the best and so excited to see you back on the course. I know great things are in your future!
After witnessing Cole Redalen walk off of emporia this weekend, it shows a lot of character to finish a tough round you were struggling at. Shows character and who you are as a competitor. Bravo.
Thanks so much for posting this. I think your honesty is so refreshing and respect you all the more for this. Good luck to you in the future.
Man, its great of you to be so transparent. I hate that you are going through a rough spot, but that is a temporary hiccup. That's all it is. We know what you can do. You will be right in the thick of it very soon!
The 🦅 traveled to the woods of the north and was then reminded of truths forgotten and dues unpaid. The disc golf gods smiled upon him and said “it is good that you are back”. And the 🦅 saw the path forward and knew that it would be all the more rewarding.
Thanks for the insight, glad you posted!
Thank you sir. I will be taking some of YOUR words and applying them to my mental health struggles.
Love seeing the fire to perform better ⚡️🤘
So great to see you back!
Good or bad. Win or lose. You will always be a big part of this game. I have three boys learning to play and you have given them someone to watch and emulate. Being at the top will come. It’s in you to push and reach that peak.
It’s so true. I moved from Illinois to Denver then Boulder. It really has you experience the changes in stability and glide. It’s like playing with completely different discs!
I love the way you look at life and your own mind. You’re a hell of a man. You got this.
First year I'm getting into disc golf and I've decided you're my favorite, Eagle.
Take all the time you need brother. We all want to see you when you're ready.
Make sure to come down the mountains before OTB to get some field work in. Really glad you made it through the 3 rounds without having to DNF. Great sign! And was happy to see you bust out the forehand so often.
Food for thought right before i play the LVC, thank you for sharing Eagle. Take you're time buddy, you got this 🤙
Eagle, I absolutely appreciate your perspective and life philosophy! We could use more of this in society.
Thanks for being straight with us. Much love, chin up.
Good seeing you throw again eagle, keep your head up, youve got a great mindset
Rooting for you, Eagle! You're coming back to the hardest course during bad weather, post-injury, post-surgery and with new discs. You will be back to your game in time.
Eagle look dude we love you and how you play the game thank you for everything you have done for the sport!!! On the bucket list to play with you and Simon.....
I know this will only make you stronger eagle, we all believe in you
It is all good Eagle! Stay strong brothaaa 👍
I know what you mean with the back. I hurt mine recently and tried to play in a tournament and it threw off my timing and I just kept saying my body wasn't working right. It's not very fun to play when that happens but it makes me appreciate when everything is working correctly.
Next Level! ! Keep on doing eagle things. It's going to work out.
Can’t wait till you get more familiar with your bag Eagle! Let’s go!
Since you dont like getting encouraged and you need that space for peace of mind all I will say is that I am glad youre healthy and back on tour. I also enjoy the honesty here because as just a casual DG its good to see even pros can have these lows and keep working through it. Peace and Love brotha good luck in the next event
Also are you still working out the bag? Anything moving in/out since the early update?
Im with you on the caddie situation. I like to manage my own emotions. Allow a small time for being emotional and then move on. Relatable for sure. Im super lucky. My son is on the bag when possible. I can be honest with him and set boundaries, but also there's not another person on earth that can pick me up out of the dumps like he can. Also, when Im struggling. Having him be there understanding the boundaries, but still drying a disc or carrying an ubrella allows for me to sit in those emotions unbothered and often I process through them easier. Definitely a blessing. You had A LOT of pressure on you this weekend. Lead card out the gate on that course is no small feat. Hang in there man!
You came back off a big layoff and played the hardest course in the world.
You'll play a bomber course and do well, get your woods game back and be fine.
Hope to see you back in Peoria for the tour in August! I couldn't make it in person but I'll be there for that one! Would love to get my envy signed!
Change is hard. No matter who you are.
You are never judged over a poor performance, Eagle.
You are judged purely on how you behave *during* and *after* a poor performance.
Simon did it and made it look easy.
I wonder if courses weren’t so long and grueling if there would be less injuries. Love your honesty Eagle. I remember living in CO for a few years. You were probably 10 years old. I was friends with your father Pat. We golfed a lot. I could see the talent in you from a young age. Passion existed in you. Keep striving brother!
Dude! I've have both SHOULDERS OPERATED on. I feel ya. It takes time. You have the skills. To get back to perfect id nearly impossible but you looked great out there for first time back. You had to come back at sometime. I've also ruptured my lowest disc in my back. When it acts up it sucks butts. Not fun to be a athlete with pain and problems. Like I said you did actually pretty good. I watched a lot of your shots and it's inches away dude. Sure some Yanks and off shots but that's normal for where you are at through back and shoulder. You got this. Dealing with it yourself is all mental. You got the skills. You have the experience. It's coming back. It's good to see you out there. That's what matters. You are out there trying. It's obviously going to get better slowly. Start slow, finish strong. It's a long season. It's a short life. Be proud. You are one of the best in the world coming back from so much. I'm rooting for ya. Sincerely someone who has dislocated his shoulder 20 times but just this week finally threw a 340 foot bomb which is my personal best. I know. You are worlds better than me. But the cool part is I thought I'd never be able to compete again. Now I'm crushing it feels like. Have a good week dude.
Coming back takes time!
Have a nice day and we know that you have skill, the consistense takes time.
I love the honesty and reflection. Recognizing how to get better is half the work of actually improving. Good luck moving forward. Excited to see good things from you again soon.
I will continue routing for you fine sir. No one is perfect and if you don't face adversity you won't learn how to handle small negative times without a positive out look. You've got this and good luck with your training in Alabama, everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, knows you got this brotha. Give em hell
It's so great to see you back in disc golf. You'll get back in form I'm sure.
I was happy to see you playing on the opening round. I assumed you’d be rusty, but didn’t care- I’m here for the progression. I suffered an injury that shut down my mountain bike racing, and when I came back I struggled big time, but once I had the body and mind right, I had the best racing season of my life, and also appreciated it in a much more balanced way. With the perspective of age, I realize my injury, and subsequent struggles, made me a better athlete, and maybe even a better person. Looking forward to seeing you back in the mix, and getting your mojo back, Eagle.
You came back to the toughest course after an injury and long break. You will do great
I'm rooting for you, Eagle! I'm prescribing to you Flaming June, by BT. Hope that helps.
I love how honest you are with yourself! I started playing disc golf almost a year ago, I have my first tournament in 2 weeks, do you have advice how to mentally be prepared?
Don't be hard on your self, first tournament back from an injury. it can only be better from here, i'm sure you will bounce back. So happy that you're back playing.
I've dealt with plenty of injuries and getting past them is always a tricky thing. Especially back injuries (in my experience).
You got this and I'm looking forward to seeing the bounce back.
We're behind you all the way
Come play The Club on Cypress in Florence Alabama! Very similar to Jonesboro, but less rough. Lavonne Wolf designed!
Hey Eagle McMahon hope your doing well. I understand that you want to play on tour this year, hopefully we will see you get to play at least 1-2 full tournaments on your before the tour season for this year is over.
I also think your making smart choices to just wait till you can play on tour this year smart. Saw you tried to play the 2024 champion cup this year trying to get back into it.. Good Job giving it a try when you were ready...
Stay Safe Eagle McMahon and take care..
As a fellow Denver player, the change to flight at elevation… is crazy. Putts float high and makes you feel crazy. Everything is different.
Love watching your career progress, it’s been phenomenal.
You’re awesome man! Don’t get too wrecked about the hardest course, while coming back from rehab. 😃👍
Hey! You are back in the competitions! That’s an achievement already. Now step by step forward! You know how to play, so keep on dreamin’👍
Better days ahead!🤙🏻
Can't do much worse.
GIVE IT SOME TIME ❤ these kind of shoulder surgeries need about a year to FULLY heal (i.e. the affected area to rebuild full strength), that’s the uncomfortable truth (and the back pain might be related to trying to prevent straining the shoulder), having said that, I trust you will do what’s best for you and if you need the competition, go for it, just be kind to yourself while doing so 💚
good take away, you may want to stay in lower elevation for a while maybe an Air Bnb near OTB to get better acclimated to the elevation. it will take some time to adjust but dude you will get there!!
Give yourself some grace, bruv! It takes a while to come back to full form: mentally and physically. The rest of the MPO have been in it for a lot of tournaments this season. It took Paul and Simon a few tournaments to get back into contention too. Good luck and feel better!!!
Good Luck. You are still one of my favorites.
uh oh I thought that altitude made discs more stable not less.. I would be TERRIBLE if I came down from the mountains
Nothing but respect for what you're doing out there Eagle. You're a top-tier pro coming back from serious injury. I think your expectations might have slightly outweighed the realities of re-starting on a course like this. Clearly punishing even some of the best players in fine health. So you live and learn and move on. And everyone that loved you on Wednesday ..... well we still do !! 😎
You are way too talented for anyone to expect you not to get back to the top! Looking forward to seeing that journey for you! Disc golf fans love watching you effortlessly rocket discs down range!
Keep grinding!
Simon missed the cut at WACO....you too will have those days. Embrace the slump
In complete honesty i havent always been a fan of yours. No reason really, idk...just havent been. But over the course of the last few seasons and during your recovery i have gained a new respect for yoy and wish you nothing but good fortune and health going forward. Fly high Eagle
Man, switching sponsors from Colorado and going down to sea level for my first big event was very difficult, especially as the wind picks up. I'm sure the value you got out of testing your discs down there in those conditions will ultimately be a huge win moving into the next event. Maybe catch you at OTB
Whole food plant based foods are an amazing way to support your dedication to peak performance and recover :-)
Best of luck out there Eagle, we are all excited to have you back.
Thanks for the update!! Because of the loss of U-Disc and the poor quality of DGN streaming, I don’t subscribe. So I had no idea how it was going for you. Analyzing the positives and negatives you do well. I think you are a talent that has many wins coming despite this setback.
Listen, you came back from a shoulder injury/surgery to the most difficult course on tour. Itll take a little time to get your timing back and disc golf is all about timing to be able to hit your lines. The mental aspect and confidence will grow/return once you start hitting those lines/putts. Youve been throwing and putting lefty for months and at altitude at that! Dont let this tournament get you down. You are Eagle McMahon and will bounce back. You are one of the best in the world, if not THE best when at the top of your game. Dont ever forget that! I would bet everything i own you will return to that level in a few weeks. Corney as it sounds its true, Timing takes time...
I feel you. I play in CO at 6900ft. Played in Florida and it was so different. Even your worse, it better than most. That course was nuts. I know you will be back soon.
On to the next!
Howdy Eagle! I was your statkeeper round 3 at Champions Cup and lemme tell you, I wish I could've made up the story about how you played that hole but you can't make that up. And the 8th shot that taco's between the trees (I got a picture of it). And still NO idea how you got between the 2 middle trees on 17, try that again 1000 times and likely won't happen.
But was a pleasure to score a round you did, albeit one I know you wanna forget. Maybe see ya again at Ledgestone if you come. That'll be 4 rounds at Eureka Temp, no worry of Northwood. Also, no idea what you threw off 18 but that flipped over HARD, was still quite a sight to see.
Reach out if you want to play a round here in Minnesota if you come up for the preserve! As a small shop owner, I appreciate what you represent it helps me to pick what discs to sell!
Eagle keep your head up brother! New discs along with coming back from the most serious injury of your life your are to hard on yourself!!
Thanks for sharing Eagle. It's great that you are back out there no matter the result of the tournament. Your play will get better no doubt. Northwoods + Major + first tournament back = the result, and the result would have been the same for any top tier pro. Even McBeth has taken while to get back to playing well this year. If you will allow, I'd like to advise you that our bodies need rest at least once a week. Exodus 20:8-11, Mark 2:27. Best of luck!
Learning to play in an upgraded body is an amazing way of looking at it. Need more reps with the new gear!
I played Zephyr Cove and the difference in the flight of discs blew my mind being from NC.
You'll get back to crushing the competition sometime soon. Northwood Black seems like the hardest possible course for a comeback tournament so don't beat yourself up too bad.
Take it back to basics eagle. Fall in love with the sport again.
A good reference for MVP disc flight is the video of James Conrad and Dan Brook Wells in Utah. DBW has great mold knowledge and could be a valuable resource for information. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feels. Much love.
Eagle knows the molds with his eyes closed. That's not the problem. He also has Simon as a consultant.
It never serves any purpose to get down on yourself. Just shake it off, stay cheerful, and keep moving forward.
Eagle you’re the man! And if you need a caddie solely to carry your bag and clean discs for Idlewild I’m your guy! I’ll shut my mouth and give you all the distance you need.
The mental game is the toughest part period. Everyone on tour has all the skills. The one that wins is the one that keeps their thoughts at bay. Sometimes its the unseen that helps too. The disc golf gods are the ones that decide who is on top... Just watch the kicks, rolls, and lucky breaks and the winner has more of them throughout the weekend.
A caddie should literally be a mule that does exactly what’s asked of them or they run the risk of vibing wrong. Carry the bag, dry discs, fetch discs, give score updates when asked and weird shoulder massages. lol
We love you Eegs
9:18 Rexcite!!! Rex Rogers throws that mold like a champ
It's been said in the comments here but let me just say you're going to be fine. When? Only the powers know that but don't forget....you've been injured for a while dealing with the management of that AND you changed your comfort zone with new plastic and a new business relationship. Take it at the pace that it comes.
You mentioned getting used to the new discs, from what little I saw that seems to be the main thing, u may need to adjust the weight from what u wer used too with mania discs to get your release right with those rubber disc lips, seem like those mvp style discs wer definitely throwin ur release off
