As I thought I was only deleting my Old Email Address but after speaking with an Xbox Customer Services Advisor 48 hours ago I was told very flippantly & without any empathy from the Call Handler from Xbox Live Customer Service that I've lost everything, as i am past my 30 days notice to reverse this...
According to Microsoft your " Email Address & Xbox Live Account are completely linked as one " & if you close down your email address you lose all your Game's/DLC/All Gaming Content/Save Files & Gamertag, Period...
I never had this issue when changing my email address on my PS4 yet my Xbox 360 & Xbox One are now completely useless with the games i tried to play via my old email address, as all my games (though still there) want to link up with my old email address & gamertag... Each time I try to play a game online or offline it tells me that my (Gaming) Content isn't tied to my new email address & that I should check I've given the correct information...
When I first bought my Xbox One I tried to play offline & though at the time most of my games would play fine, I still had issues as unlike the PS4 or Nintendo Switch Your Xbox One will want to keep trying to connect to your internet & thats even if you are set up to play offline & this is were glitches & crashes can happen...
Though most of the time it was ok as just long as I had my email address & gamertag, but now (somehow) because I've closed down my old email address I've lost everything because Microsoft don't make it very clear about how you should do this...
This was in most part the call handler I spoke with with regards to changing my email as he reaffirmed me that all I had to do was content them if I so wished, then tell them my new address & they would do the rest on their end...
I even told them the date time/city & name of the call handler who gave out this wrong information but again all I got in response was " there's nothing we can do "
Unfortunately if you have (like I have) completely Deleted & Closed your email address then your as we say " Donald Ducked " & that would be the polite way of putting it...
If your still within your 30 Day Notice Of Cancellation then You Can Reactivate Your Email Address that was linked your console & I'd suggest you contact Microsoft & ask them to walk you through the process of changing your account to a new address before deleting your old email address first...
I only changed & closed down my old email address as I had it for 20 years & in the last 5 years i was constantly recieving bogus/fraudulent emails/sex request emails & other crap that I have no idea how they had got hold of my email address & it came to the point it was constant harrassment...
I've now lost 66 Full Xbox One Game's & All Their DLC's & over 13 years of digital downloads of Xbox 360 Games which are at least over 100 games & all because it wasn't made clear to me that I wasn't just closing my email address but also access to my gaming content...
I hope you are still within your 30 Day Notice To Reverse Your Cancellation Of Completely Closing Down Your Email Address as you can get it all back but if your over that 30 Day period then there's nothing you can do according to Microsoft & believe I've tried everything in the last 48 hours & though some of my Xbox 360 Games I transferred over to my Xbox One work, the majority don't...
I'm sorry if your in the same boat as me & it's a very expensive & harsh lesson I've learned but in saying that Microsoft with the Xbox One have completely f*cked up in this Current Gen of so called " console wars " but I was at least happy I could play my exclusive/third party game's on my Xbox 360 & Xbox One that I couldn't on any other console but now I don't even have that either...

Have you tried checking your junk folder in your email?

Make a brand new email address and use that as your contact preference. Then try to submit in a new account recovery form. If that does not work I would then suggest calling Xbox customer support. Keep in mind they wont be able to give you any account information. But they might be able to help you submit in the account recovery form.
