- Spraying Acrylics with a NEOECO Airbrush
When I got my new NEOECO airbrush and realized how easy it was to do great work I decided to do a How Too video on using it. Well, a little while ago the kind people at NEOECO contacted me and asked if I planned on making that video. I told them I was, and they said they would like to send me a few things to use in the video. They quickly sent me a NEOECO compressor, cleaning pot, and cleaning supplies and tools. Now I am not one to promote anything that I don’t like, so I tested the compressor and was very happy with it.
Now it was time to get down to business and make a video.
I used Tamiya’s Acrylics because that is just about the only paint I use.
I also used Tamiya’s Acrylic thinner and Tamiya’s Retarder.
I always start out with 2 pipettes of paint and 1 of thinner. Then I always add 13 drops of Retarder. This is when I give everything a good stir and see where my mix is. I am looking for a thin milk almost water consistency to the paint. In the video you can see I had to add just a little more thinner.
Then I set the compressor on high (green) and did a spoon test. I liked the way it was spraying so I went ahead and sprayed the roadster body.
After that it was cleanup time and with the cleaning rags that NEOECO adds to the compressor cleanup was easy.
I hope you enjoyed the video and I hope it helps.

Thank you very much. I try and keep most of my builds on the cheap, but with as much detail as I can.
Thanks grampa, just got my air brush. Thanks again.
Oooo good. I hope you like it.
I bought two of those. They're amazingly packaged with all those brushes and rods, but also spare O-rings, three sizes of tips and needles, three cups, the quick connect, long hose, and more! ALL for around $40! Very impressive product, and their product support is second to none, too. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching. It is a fantastic deal for sure, and my dealings with them have been amazing. I honestly think they really care about their customers satisfaction and they want to make sure you are happy. That is a rare thing anymore.
Hi from Norway. I am a grandpa too 😂Great video! You have a very nice voice to listen to and you speak very clearly. Keep up the good work 😃
You just made my day. Thank you very much.
Excellent video! Thank you!
Thank you very much. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the so detail video. Enjoy it indeed. And it can help a lot of people who just entering airbrushing world and wanna enjoy that. Thanks!
Thank you very much for watching. I can't tell you how impressed I am with this airbrush. I've used some VERY EXPENSIVE airbrushes that friends have, and are way out of my price range, but no kidding, this airbrush is just as good as them in every way. I've painted 5 models with it now and it's done a great job for me every single time. I love it.
Great tutorial, covered a lot of issues that are good to be reminded of.
Thank you very much. I wanted to cover as much as I could, but didn't want to get too heavy with it. If that makes sense.
Just catching up on videos after my week at the racetrack. Great tutorial. Neat little compressor. One of my airbrushes is the neoeco and I really like it. More than worth the price.
It sure is. Love it.
Great tutorial! Looks like a great option for the beginner or the occasional airbrusher like myself. I like it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much for watching. I hope it helps
Very nice video. This product looks really nice. It seems to be a well thought out item. Definitely worth looking at purchasing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much. It works great. I would recommend it.
I always wanted an airbrush when I was building models! I still remember how much difference swapping to spray paints made. I can only imagine how much difference a legit air brush like this would make!
When I was young I had no clue of what an airbrush was. LOL I would be happy with a kit after I used a gallon of Testers paint and an old craft brush. LOL Now with this thing I can put down the paint so smooth. What a difference. LOL Hey, have a great weekend, and thanks again for watching.
Great video and a splendid brush up on brushing😂 THANKS!
Thank you very much.
Very informative video. I also clean my airbrush like you do at they end of my spraying session.
Thank you very much. I've finished my sessions like that for years and have never had any major problems with my airbrushes. It just pays to do it that way.
i used an airbrush about 30 years ago and painted fishing rods. then haven't used it since. forgot about it till now. then just purchased a nedeco and was having a lot of trouble with it paint not flowing etc. after watching you video, i saw several things i was doing wrong. thanks, great video, and very informative.
Thank you very much. You just made my day.
Great video. I think you have solved a problem I have been having with splattering.
Thank you very much for watching. I'm so glad I helped.
Great vid as always😁 I got one of these a while back after watching a review from Barbarossa Rex ? I just love this airbrush, I like that it has a Mac valve on it for easy adjustment. I only got the brush, didn’t know they had a mini compressor, just used my old compressor. Goes great with my Gaahlari .3 one🤪
That is were I saw it first, and had to get one. I love it.
Thanks for the review! I have one big compressor for general purpose.
I feel like I'm in some sort old boat motor room when that thing is on. 😂😂
At neoeco's level of noise, I can even paint during the night! Certainly, will buy it next month. I'm quite low on cash right now. 😅
I've found that it does not like to spray Vallejo primers. But it is crazy quiet and if your paint is thinned right it works well.
@@grandpamarkshobbies I use mostly some local standard hobby paint. But I do have some vallejo on the bench. Glad to know it beforehand. Thinned down paint and some patience can get us far.😂😁
Yes sir.
thx for this I will give it a try soon
Thanks for watching. I hope it helps.
very professional.
Thank you very much.
Thanks For Teaching Me Some Stuff Like it alot .S Baum...
Thank you. I'm going to be doing a few more airbrushing videos here real soon. With much better filming quality.
My kiddo is a super awesome artist and he has been talking about getting an airbrush and this set up would be perfect. Performance and design seem top notch sir.
It is an outstanding kit. I've been able to lay down some great work with it. I'm not sure if you've looked at it, but it comes with a whole set of replacement O rings and Teflon guides. It also has 3 cup sizes, a quick disconnect, long (good quality) hose, air separator, cleaning tools, and 3 tip sizes. For $39.00 it's a crazy deal. (and I'm not even working for them) I'm just really happy with the airbrush.
@@grandpamarkshobbies I’ve looked it up and I’m surprised at the deal and it’s a quality airbrush, not harbor fake junk. They carry replacement parts also. At that price I should get one for my kiddo and myself lol 😛
I agree. I was surprised that it came with all the cleaning tools, and replacement o rings too. I am very happy with it.
Impressive!! I've gotta get one for myself. 👍🦘
Thank you very much. I really like this airbrush. It's so much easier to use than my old one. And if you get the one that comes with the compressor you will like that too.
I am impressed with the compressor. I will look into those wipes as well. I have not seen those before. looks to beat paper towels by a long shot. Thanks for the video.
I am going to write NEOECO to see where I can get them. They sent me a link to where to get that compressor. They didn't think they would sell in the US. I think the response here has shown otherwise. I'll update the description with the new links as soon as I get them.
@@grandpamarkshobbies I donated one of my old AB to a friend but now they need a compressor. I thought this looked like a good one to get them started. the link you have here is the only place I have seen that particular compressor listed for sale. Thanks again
I'm so glad I could help. Thanks again for watching.
Like your style - great video! 44:51
Thank you very much.
Well that was a nice refresher for me on how to paint after 4+ years... Thanks and I will try your method and see how it goes. I have never used retarder(I'm a bit a retired. lol) in my paint, if memory serves I used floor shine as a lever and window wash as a thinner... Lol
I looked for that air pump and did not find it with that name. I did find a kit that has that pump but did not like the brush. I have 2 brushes and don't really need another one. My homemade fridge air compressor is quite but takes a while to fill the tank but it does work great.
Anyway thanks for the video!
LLAP 🖖
Bruce, I use to use Pledge back in the day, but the Tamiya Retarder doesn't change the gloss like the Pledge did. The NEOECO group is going to be putting up a website soon and I'm hoping they will be offering that compressor there. It will be a great help for people who are just getting into the hobby or for people (like me) who have limited space. But I sure do like that airbrush. It does such a better more consistent job than my old one.
Thank you very much for watching, and have a great weekend.
@@grandpamarkshobbies I did order the thinner and retarder Mark on Amazonion to give it a try. What can it hurt right? Lol
Have a great weekend as well. I just seen Jake in the pump video. He looks awesome!
Buster (In the Pic) pasted away Dec 10th 2021 and I still have Tip he is 12. I started the channel with Buster & Tip in mind when he was still alive not knowing he would be gone soon. He was 17 on his passing but full of life as a new puppy, just his body gave up like ours. 😥
So now the channel is in his Honor. I do miss him so much still but one day well be together again... 🙏
LLAP 🖖
Just looking to start modelling after a xxx yr lay off. Ordered a NEOECO airbrush and compressor as I've always wanted to use one.
Looking forward to receiving it, some excellent information here that I'll certainly be referring to as I attempt to get back into the hobby 😊
Great video, thanks.
Thank you very much. After I made that video I started thinning the paint just a smidge more and it made a big difference.
@@grandpamarkshobbiesinteresting, I would never have thought to thin it as much. Think I'll need to practise a fair bit before committing to my first "real" spray.
Thanks again
If you can get them, buy a large box of white disposable spoons. Those are the perfect thing to practice on. I use them all the time. Every time I spray a project I will spray a spoon first just to make sure my mix and air are correct. Them and the cheap plastic poppets are an airbrushes friend.
I think that the moisture traps intake is the clear side and the output the metal side. The way it's install the flow is revers.
There is only one way to thread it onto the unit and the hose. Input is Female threads, output to hose is Male threads.
What I see around it is attached to the airgun
LOL. You got me there. I'll switch it around next time I use it. That will just be a bit bulky to hold.
I wish you good luck with that airbrush. The one I had (6 months) after several deep cleaning in the past I needed to do another cleaning after a long paint session, but the needle collar broke off in the airbrush body when trying to dismantle. The only good thing about the Neoeco airbrush is they're cheap!
Thanks for the heads up. I'll watch out. Have you tried to contact them?
I caught this over on the Neoeco site, and since I have one of these (love it), thought I'd come back here and catch it directly from the horse's mouth...so to speak.
Thank you very much. I'll have to jump over there and check it out. I do love that setup.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Have you found a place to order their Airbrush Wipes separately? I've been looking unsuccessfully so far. I had used Artool Studio wipes, but my box of them is starting to dry out, and I'd like to try these next. I've sent an email to the address in the description in their video How to clean the airbrush? -- Beginners' Guide using your video, but haven't heard back yet. Guess they're still working on their website. Great tutorial video as usual.
I sent them an email, and they will be sending some to Amazon as soon as they can. They will let me know when they do and I will shoot out a note on the community page with the link.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Awesome, thanks.
Awesome video Mark! Very good tutorial on deep cleaning the airbrush. I wouldn't mind getting this compressor for a 2nd or for travel/camping. Do you know what the psi ranges are for the three settings?
Thanks for watching. I can't tell you how much easier it is to clean this airbrush over my old syphon feed. As for that compressor, it didn't give ranges for the three settings. It just says MAX PRESSURE is 25. So I'm guessing that is the high pressure setting. I would usually spray right around 20 and honestly I can't tell any difference. What I like the most is when I clean my brush I would lower the regulator, then have to dial it back in to spray again working out the pressure drift in my regulator. With this I just hit the button and I'm all set again. I really like that.
But anyhow I hope that helps, and have a great weekend.
Just got my NEOECO airbrush. It is the updated version. The nopssle is the updated version.
Outstanding!!!!! I hope you like it as much as I do.
Grandpa, you really should spray a couple of paint cups worth of cleaner through the brush before you pull the needle out. Any residual paint on your needle just gpt pulled back through the body of the airbrush. I have the updated version of that airbrush and really like it! I think Neoeco has made a good airbrush at a good price.
Thank you. I usually do that. I think having the camera right in front of my face really messed me up. I love the airbrush, and also the good people at NEOECO. They really seem to care about their customers. Thanks again for watching, and have a great week.
Thanks for this Q&A I was wondering why not spray cleaner before disassembling from the cup into the cleaning pot.
I'm sorry, it was all me that day. What I do is remove all the paint I can with a pipette, then I wipe out the cup with a paper towel that I put some cleaner on. Then I put just enough cleaner into the cup to come up even with the bottom of the cup. (Just a little bit) then I put my finger over the front of the nozzle and slowly pull back until the cleaner starts to bubble just a little bit. I let it bubble for a few seconds, then I spray it into my cleaning pot. I usually do that three times. Then I start taking it apart.
Thank you So much for this comprehensive video! Hey, I have a question: 2 days ago I sprayed a spoon (Roughed up with 800 grit sand paper) with acrylic paint, and I'm able to scratch the paint off. Am I missing something? I don't want to use it on a model before I figure out the issue(s). Thanks again!!
Thanks for the kind words. Some paints take longer to harden. I usually let my Tamiya paints harden for about four days before I really mess with them too much. As for other paints, I'm not sure. I know that some paints need primer first to hold onto something. Tamiya paints do well on their own as long as you start out with a few very light coats to give it something to bite into. Even with Tamiya paints I wait four to five days before I tape for stripes. That way I'm sure the paint is good and cured.
Thank you so much,@@grandpamarkshobbies !
A very well done video, I'm not an airbrush beginner, but I have a quick question on the compressor. Does it constantly have to be plugged into a power source in order to run, or can it be charged up so it can be used in remote locations? Thanks.
No, it does not charge. . . It also died on me last weekend. I did use it a lot though.
Thanks for the update. I'll keep my pancake compressor around a bit longer.
Hello, I just found your channel, I’m getting back into building cars after 40 years, just wondering do you wash all your bare plastic with soap and water before you paint them?
Thanks for the video
Welcome back to the hobby. I do wash all my parts. Usually first thing. I put just a few drops of Dawn dish soap in warm water, and use a soft toothbrush to give everything (except the clear parts) a quick scrubbing. When I'm done scrubbing the parts I lay them on a towel. Then I rinse my tote with clear water. I then put warm clear water in the tote and rinse all the parts. I'll lay them on the towel and dry them with paper towels. Not sure if I need to do this or not, but that's what I did in the 70's and I've just kept doing it.
Before you took it apart you should’ve kept the gun in the cleaner and put your cleaner in while spraying and keep adding till it’s clear then you take it apart.
You are 100% right. That video got started at 5am, and I had to re shoot it 4 times before my camera/computer/brain all meshed up. I didn't even realize that I didn't back wash it until my wife pointed it out to me. I usually wipe out the bowl, run the rest of the paint out of it. Run a few bowls through it, then I back flush it a few times to brake up whatever else is left over, then I run another few through the front, then I pull the pin. I was just so tired that I skipped that whole part.
@@grandpamarkshobbies I k ow how it is when you’re so tired and aggravated your brain don’t want to brain anymore, I’ve ran heavy equipment like that several times, sketchy situations. Lol
Ohhhh man that's funny.
If it's free you gotta say it's the best. No trust in your opinions at all.
I will be honest with you, I told them if I don't like it I wouldn't make the video. Then I opened the box and said (Oh Man) and didn't have any hope at all. But when I tried it I was surprised at how well it did. I've worked way to hard to build up this channel to do a recommend on a product that didn't work, or I had problems with. I have too much respect for all of you to do that. This exceeded all my expectations.
Where do I find your cleaner the masters?
I get it on Amazon. I really like this for acrylic paint. It's the second bottle I've used of it. Here's the link. www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Cleaner-16-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B0BN77JPWP/ref=sr_1_7_pp?crid=3C3GIAFCD0YBA&keywords=airbrush+cleaner&qid=1701485152&sprefix=airbrush+cleaner%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-7
So nice of you to reply. Thanks again looking forward to seeing your other videos. I’m now a subscriber.
You are very welcome. Thanks for subscribing.
how much dose a rig like that cost thank you grandpa
Here's a link to the airbrush. It comes with everything except the compressor.
www.amazon.com/NEOECO-Multi-Purpose-Airbrush-Dual-Action-Gravity/dp/B0B757WWD8/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1O2UY2KDQ175C&keywords=neoeco&qid=1686874409&sprefix=neoeco%2Caps%2C120&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1
And you can pick up a compressor for about 60 bucks at Harbor Freight.
hey grandpa please don't build no more 32 fords I'm 32 ford out every one build themplease ????
LOL. I have a few more to do before I can call them done. I may have a problem. LOL
You should use the camera further away
I sure wish I could have. I have very little room and it was right on my chest.
This is the old model
Yes it is.
