In my Spanish class in high school, we were assigned to do research projects on countries that were predominately Spanish-speaking. One kid was assigned Nicaragua, which prompted him to ask the teacher “Where the hell is that?” The teacher then told the kid to figure it out himself, and sure enough, he misheard or misremembered the country as being “Nigeria” and accidentally ended up doing a “Spanish project” on a country that had very little association with the Spanish language. I will always remember that Nicaragua is a Central American country because of that kid. 🙂
