I've never seen the hype these last 20 years man. VII was spoonfed like we're cattle. Squall doesn't even have a 3DCG movie until know. Sad to say but this series is just too risky.

I think it has more to do with the overall atmosphere of ff8. To me the dialogue, story, FMV sequences and music was closer to that of a PG-13 movie vs FF7 that struck me as closer to PG, if that makes sense?

My first FF game was 8. Took me months to beat unlike todays games where you can beat it in two weeks. This had one of the greatest storylines, soundtrack, and characters.

Final Fantasy 8 was my very first final fantasy.
After beating it I went to 7 and strongly disliked it.
I gave 7 a shot and it just wasn’t clicking for me.

Almost. What happened to Seifer and Squall's scars? To me that's such an important character trait for them. It tells the story of how deep their rivalry is.
They are there just much smaller. Seifers is a few cm below is right eye and Squalls in his right eyebrow area

6 and 8 need the Quality of 7.
Alot of FFs deserved a remake tbh.
First FF not only deserves an actual remake, but a fleshed out story that tells us exactly how it went down. For example, who are the 4 heroes and the origins of Warrior of Light.
FF2 deserves a fleshed out story as well that gives us the deeper details who are the characters.
FF3 should follow based from the DS version remake, and have Onion Knight as the strongest class to have instead.
FF4 remake would be nice for us to learn more about Cecil how he became the Black Knight.
FF5 is good so a remake version would be good.
FF6 would be awesome to have as a remake, as well as the concept of having more than 4 people in the party at some scenes (you’ll still get 4 by default, in some scenes it’d be more than 4).
They are sitting on a gold mine, they could sit back and just do Remakes for the next 20 years.

If Square wanted time travel/alternative timelines mumbo Jumbo, 8 was the place to do it as time travel was well and truly established in the main plot. Instead they shoved it into 7 for brand recognition

As my first FF, this one has a special place in my heart. I recognize its flaws. I would really dislike the draw system today, as it makes you OP, trivializing the game, while discouraging the use of magic.
But I really like the tone of the game. It is so hard to explain. When you are in Deling City, it has that dark jazz vibe. In Galbadia, you have that oppressive, dark militaristic tune.
People say the game doesn’t have enough character development, but I don’t think every character in a story needs an in-depth reason to exist. However, I simply love how the world itself has this very distinct feeling that is definitely FF8, and you can see some of that in this video (though the video is not flawless by any means, far from it).
Also, as a kid, the military school setting was really fun. Balamb Garden really felt like my second school.
This hits hard. The music, the setting and the story is a nostalgic trip of escapism, very few games can suck you into the world fully immersed, but this game fully immerses your heart, sense of self, passions and childhood in a melancholy way. Especially if you ever experienced any pain in your childhood, this game is a true tutorial on the hero's journey. Brings me back to innocent times, as if ff8 captures the aura of before innocence is taken away, and you see the hard road in front of you as a child and the feeling of epic dreams of uncertainty. FFX does this really well also, especially when you encounter a big ball of all evil in the form of "sin"., I love final fantasy(except 15) lol
