“Johnny got his gun “ amazing book, read it in middle school. Never saw the movie though. The song is awesome too ♥️ Army vet gets blown up and loses his eyes, jaw ears, arms legs. Basically a stump. The army keeps him alive as an experiment while this whole time he’s stuck in his own head.

To me, the greatest song ever written. It provides everything. Beautiful music, kick ass music, great vocals that amplify the song, very good lyrics and loads of emotion, if you allow it.

I remember the first time seeing this video as a kid on MTV back when they actually played music videos, good times. I was at the beach in my grandpa's condo when it came on. You know that feeling when a memory is so strong that it literally feels like you're there?
I watched it for the first time on Headbanger's Ball when it premiered. I was in "the throes of passion" with my "then" girlfriend. She didn't appreciate it when I stopped everything to watch the video 😁. People have their priorities!

This song and the album it comes from is angry and violent but the subjects they touch on are just as relevant today as they were in 1988 when the album was released. This is why I subbed. Good reaction. This video is like the movie 7 & Sixth Sense it's even better the second time around when you know whats going on and why you see what you see. Try Metallica's Master of Puppets, Disposable Heroes & Creeping Death (Live in Moscow) you will be able to see how they wield spiritual weapons like words & music against war & slavery (Creeping Death is about God freeing slaves in Egypt).

It’s always better to react to the lyrics versions the first time you listen to a Metallica song. Official videos are (although good) usually too distracting and take away from the music and meaning (lyrics). Live videos can often be better than an official release but that’s usually true for us Metallica fans that are already familiar with the songs. For first timers they can be less be less impressive due to that lack of familiarity. So I do strongly recommend listening to just the music along with the lyrics for your first time.

You must have been very unfocused or something... It's a very straightforward song lyrically. And the video lays the story out pretty much perfectly.
I have to laugh a little, though. We have heard helicopters, grenades exploding and soldiers throughout the video and the lyrics have even mentioned the word "war" twice, but despite all of that you say towards the end: "Is this about war?" LOL

I got slightly annoyed at the beginning of this reaction...you eventually said "what is going on in this video?" and I yelled out "maybe if you pay attention you would know." Sorry. No offense. Its important to listen to dialogue and such when you are reacting to a video that is trying to tell a story.

Somewhat. They are still just as popular as they were 20 years ago though. But they have a decent age range. I’m 17 and I saw them in 2019 and I saw every age from 6-60 years old at the show.
