Back in the '60s and '70s, our family would vacation in Buxton, and the friends that I met there would climb that lighthouse almost every day of our two-week vacation. So many great memories were made there on The Outer Banks. I live in Florida now but would love to go back someday to relive my youth.
What impresses me is that this is in HD in 1998, probably like ten years before HD became standard!
My grandfather Pete Friesen helped to move that lighthouse. He was brilliant. I wish I could still pick his brain, but sadly passed away before I became an engineer myself.
How dare anyone contemplate doing harm in any way shape or form. It must be saved at all costs.
I was born and raised in Albania bud buxton and it’s lighthouse are my favorite place in USA. I spent one month in Buxton and keep dreaming for the next eleven months to go back.
I just heard the 99% Invisible episode about this. Nice documentary ✌️
How encouraging to hear people that still value America instead of psycho babble making the case for giving away human rights in our sovereign land.
And now the original location of the lighthouse is a stick in the sand.
Guess we saw who is right after all.
The foundation would be compromised in any tropcial storm or hurricane due to flooding if it were still on the beach

"You're insane. Do not value what you value. You're stupid. Where is your brain? You think wrong. You are irrational."
And yet...somehow...he had a really hard time winning people over to his way. I just...man...with a sales pitch like that...how did he encounter any resistance at all?
I think...maybe...scientists ought to stick to science, and let salesmen come in and do the selling.
He did come across as being obnoxious, but he didn't lose. He was a proponent of moving the lighthouse.
@@rspro575 Fair enough. I wrote that a year ago, so I don't remember what I saw that made me say it, haha
@@kennedymcgovern5413 I understand and I agree that he was very abrasive and it's probably fortunate that he did not hurt 'the cause' of getting the lighthouse moved.
How many people had Crow platter over this ,,,,, the Atlantic was going to have light Stew and the great lake ain't no Atlantic ocean

I had the honor of climbing this lighthouse not long before it was moved. It was a long climb, but the amazing views from the top made the climb well worth it. I love this lighthouse and hope it's still standing long after I'm gone. Well worth the move, IMO.
