  • To Sum it up I will be shooting this camera until it breaks...
Cant believe its 2 years since the inception of me purchasing this camera Never thought I would be shooting for quite a long time....
in this video I am going to just blah blah blah about this camera things/insight and displaying my opinion on this camera and some areas I forgot to mention in my previous videos....probably will be helpful for people who are thinking of purchasing this camera.
There are alot of options available....but due to the price increase in film cameras there are alot of alternatives to look for it doesnt have to be this specific one...

Love your videos. This is a great review of the GW690. I have the GW690, I love the 6x9 format, however, it is expensive and have been torn whether to sell my minty GW690 and use my Hasselblad 500 C/M which shoots 6x6 and is lower cost or to keep it. I paid 700.00 for my 1st generation GW690.

Your welcome I guess the reason why I love to shoot with film format is when I look at the number of population that use this camera I'm guessing only less than 10 ppl use this camera in Tokyo with a population of 1.2 million. While Hasselblad Pentax user is probably more than double double which I really like distinctive cameras that not many ppl shoot with and sticking for extended period of time I guess ppl come back to me since out of the 10 ppl in Tokyo
I'm like 1/10 who actually makes content to ppl outside of Japan which make it unique.
And it's just a tool for achieving your goals and different cameras like hasselblads provide better flexibility number of shots interchangable backs, lenses from wide to semi telephoto no doubt more capable but I like things that are really simple to use one lense one body stuck like glue and less exposures and get a slap in the face when I mess up but the price is worth it although one shot is hell expensive hehe

I bought both the GW690 and the GSW690 cameras back in 1987 for a coffee table book project shooting both Kodachrome 64 220 and Fujichrome 50 220 transparency film. The cameras were a joy to use and the reproductions were brilliantly saturated and razor sharp. Excellent camera format (6x9cm) and perfect as a serious and portable travel camera. I found the Domke F3x to be an amazingly suitable bag for this camera/s

Oh thank you for commenting :) and from someone who used it as a workhorse camera. Although I was born after kodakchrome stalled production I wish there was a chance to shoot that film stock nowadays velvia Provia is way to expensive to shoot unfortunately also the E100 is expensive too. I have this odd feeling that as of 2024 I am the only Japanese person still using this camera and I still enjoy it after 3-4 years

The most enjoyable part about looking for cameras like this is you have a plethora of information from people who actually used the camera for years and can tell you the in's and out's. It is so often the case now that everything is new, and everyone reviewing the camera is bluffing in the hopes that they sell them.
Where can I find your work? I'd love to see some of those shots!

So I’ve had a Mamiya 645 for several years now and have been wanting a 67 camera that is somewhat portable for a long time. The Mamiya 7 is ridiculously too expensive, the RZ67 is too big and not portable and the Pentax 67 is a heavy brick lol. Fuji makes a GW670 but it’s difficult to pack for a plane flight because the lens doesn’t come off. I finally found the best solution: the earlier 70’s Fujica GM670. The GW’s predecessor but with a removable lens. May be a little bigger than the Mamiya 7 but it’s a rangefinder and isn’t very heavy at all. The lens is tack-sharp and was under $1,000 in beautiful condition. I’m extremely pleased with it!

Congratz on getting a GM670 those are hard to get by u must of been lucky to find one.
It's true the Pentax is a brick Mamiya 7 overpriced, and not the mention the Plauble Makina also being expensive as heck

Nice to see a camera get used! I love the roll odometer thing, what a cool thing! I would hesitate buying this because of the fixed lens, but it would def not be my only camera.

The fixed lense is a downer unfortunately....if Fuji remakes the GW690 sane style but with interchangable lense it would sell alot...:)

Hi Ryo, it´s so great to see that I´m not the only one, who loves and shoots that stupid Texas Leica. And I`m amused about your 80 l.p.m. (like per minute) ;) Thank you for that great video.

I guess it has its own world there's like no alternatives...no other camera can replace this camera

Great vid! Flash will freeze your subject at any shutter speed. A lower sync speed will limit your ability control the ambient light exposing your film e.g on a really bright sunny day

    • @RM.TokyoPhotographer
      @RM.TokyoPhotographer  Před rokem

Typically most 35mm film cameras can only sync up to 1/60 (mechanical type) which kinda breaks alot of ppl giving them headaches since it can't cut the ambient light but this camera has a leaf shutter so can go beyond that with ease
