I was behind the goal with my girl later wife when he scored and we fell to the floor in the melee but it was well worth it.Young supporters of Liverpool today wont understand what a formidable team they once were and to beat them at Goodison in 1979 was one of my greatest memories.R.i.p Dave Sexton and Bob Paisley.
I was there. What a tremendous atmosphere. What a tremendous result. Greenhoff was in acres of space to score that goal. I was right behind that goal. What a game!
The atmospheres was amazing in those days always got goosebumps more passionate never gave up paid less money money but the entertainment was endless even in the other divisions end to end relentless by gone days this why I God for you tube ❤
Great header by Jimmy Greenhoff. Used to watch him at Stoke every week...superb footballer. Gutted when he left for Old Trafford but still great to watch
I remember watching the highlights of this match and being amazed @ the support that Manchester United always had. Always the loudest, always the most passionate. Great days, brilliant memories! Thank you Jimmy, what a goal.
Watching it still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I remember our headmaster here in Belfast having to shout over the din to make himself heard in school assembly next morning as we Utd supporters rubbed it in.
I agree. I went to the first semi at Maine Rd, 2-2, but had no money as a young apprentice to get a replay ticket. This is one of a few videos I go back to time and time again when life is a bit s**t. Motson describing Jimmy Greenhoff as the master craftsman still brings a lump to my throat after all those years.
Classic semi final. Hate to say it but when you look at the reactions at the end and John Motson's brilliant and dramatic commentary, it seems as though the FA Cup meant much more in those days. And also none of this ridiculous playing of FA Cup semi finals at Wembley!
The origional scousebusters. Was there and i just bought greenhoffs winning goal pic off ebay. I had 1 token short for a final ticket. Got 1 in the end tho
Fa cup is still a magnificent competition watching it all my life cup final day is really special if the team you support makes the final no doubt about that 😊
This was Emlyn Hughes last game for Liverpool. Paisley blamed him for this goal for letting Greenhoff run off him. Hughes was about 34 at the time, had hardly played all season and was knackered. (it was the 81st minute) and he just didn't follow the run. Shame to see his Liverpool career end in this way
This was an FA Cup Final replay played at Goodison Park. Home if Everton. United went to Wembley but unfortunately lost out in a thriller to the arsenal 3-2. 3 goals in last 5 mins.
I agree with the comments there's to much emphasis on hyping the games nonsense gibberish why an earth they have ridiculous squad numbers is beyond me the way they play the game and rules are not a patch on the game in the 60s and 70s no contact allowed games gone to soft for me
A proper FA Cup semi final........nothing more annoying nowaday's than some clown telling you the team numbers to watch out for before they even come out the hat.......the same with the semi finals, Hillsborough,Villa Park.....why not in this day and age use the emirates, old trafford etc....or i am to old fashioned at the age of 49.

...and Ray Clemence, legendary Liverpool goalkeeper, he passed of prostate cancer 2 years ago

remember that goal so well ..gives me chills
Remember listening to it on the radio bbc from Ireland was jumping around the kitchen great memories I was 14 years old

I came here after the 7-0 hammering of 2023. Needed a reminder of happier days ❤️
This is when you used to a proper atmosphere at f.a cup semis and football grounds in general

It did mean much more. It used to be an amazing competition.
A goal I'll never forget... fantastic to see it again!
It was Brian who passed away. Not Jimmy! Still alive n kickin!!
United legend.
Rip the busby babes. This day in 1958.

GREENOFF!!!!!!
Yip I was 11 Man Utd had that magic round em the fans unreal proper football days
Back before the FA destroyed the magic of their own competition by scrapping replays and putting semis at Wembley
It's Brian Greenhoff that's passed away not Jimmy...
This is the year I started to support Utd !
JIMMY GREENHOFF!!! :)
Magic, jimmy greenhoff.
0:50 amazing double save 👏
Shearer's goal vs Germany at Euro 2000 + Tardelli's celebration vs Germany at the 1982 World Cup....
It was played at Goodison Park, after a draw at Maine Road.
JIMMY GREENOFF !!!!!!
RIP Jimmy Greenoff,
from a Liverpool fan
Rip Jimmy Greenoff? You mean Brian..
Jimmy is still alive and well. After this goal and the one in the 1977 Cup Final, along with Stuart Pearson, he is immortal ❤
@@KryptonitetoallBS Oh I must have mixed him up with Brian, sorry.
RIP Greenhoff ;(

where was this played?
Goodison Park (Everton) after a drawn first match (2-2) at Maine Road, Manchester

Liverpool goalkeeper at fault. He should never have scored from that distance with his head, from a cross where the ball had already bounced.
Emlyn Hughes at fault - caught out of position at left back - never played for LFC again
Good player barring that, but apparently not popular off the pitch with the other players
