  • Reckful's Hearthstone casting adventures came to a sudden stop after a questionable performance in the Archon ATLC $250,000 online tournament recently. Drama quickly filled Reddit, and even Blizzard themselves responded to the drama by stating they were "not ok" with some of the statements made by Reckful during the tourney, and Frodan called him out for some of his statements immediately.
    This video provides full coverage of the drama, highlighting the moments that eventually led to Amaz firing or "sapping" Reckful from the casting couch. Also included is Reckful's response in his stream afterwards.

    It's not like Reckful is acting like this because of some specific reason, this is how Reckful is. He isn't the Frodan type of professional caster that you'd want to have for major tournaments, he is perfect when it comes to more casual stuff like Lord of the Arena or something.

      Zefn Then it was his fault for coming to a professional tournament with $250k on the line and casting it so unprofessionally. It may not be his thing, I get that, but he should at least be able to put up with it while refraining from being a douchebag.

    I was/am so sorry for frodan that he had to deal with reckful. It is usually very hard to cast alone. Im sure it was incredibly hard to cast alone with an handicap. (Who thought reckful was a good caster should stop watching tournaments and should stick to reckfuls stream. (btw im fine with people who like watching him. Even i watched him a couple of times. But his casting in a big tournament like this is outrageous))

    I don't know why so many people are trying to defend Reckful in this situation. Even if this video tries to highlight his flaws against any successes he may have had in this casting, it's really not excusable that there were so many fuck-ups in the first place. This was, hands-down, the most unprofessional casting I have ever seen. Plus, I have a hard time ever supporting Reckful, because he really does strike me as an asshole. The guy is responsible for tons of interpersonal drama in the hearthstone community, blatantly insults and shit-talks other streamers, and even recorded a breakup with his girlfriend on stream. I mean, what the fuck? I don't really care how good he is at hearthstone or how funny his jokes may sometimes be, there's no excuse for the behavior he consistently exhibits.

    You are making as much racist (lacist) jokes and other things that you would probably commentate on if Reckful said it (hide the weed for instance). Not trying to defend reckful, but you are a bit hypocritical.

    • @HearthStoneZapper
      @HearthStoneZapper  Před 9 lety +4

      ProfMindcraft Thanks for the feedback. At that point in the video they were making jokes though, and those things added were also obviously jokes. The "hide the weed" thing is more of a meme that is regularly used on Twitch, referring to when a twitch staff appears in the chat, they are also referred to as "popo".The chat then usually continues with the sentence "hide the weed" or something similar. So it was a reference to that meme. Sorry if it offended anyone ;)

    • @MrMoustachioo
      @MrMoustachioo Před 9 lety +8

      HearthStone Zapper Oh im not offended. AT all. But 'getting raped' in game terms also is a thing used by Twitch chat that shouldnt offend anyone. The only difference being that he is live and is showing his face and you arent.

    • @HearthStoneZapper
      @HearthStoneZapper  Před 9 lety +29

      ProfMindcraft I know that is also a meme. I can say that as a simple twitch chat pleb, or even as a content creator on youtube. But when you are a professional caster for a $250,000 Esports tournament it might be expected to not use such lingo when on the job. If he uses those things in his own stream thats fine though.

    • @MrMoustachioo
      @MrMoustachioo Před 9 lety +5

      HearthStone Zapper I get that. But people jump on it to call him the worst caster ever. He just isnt the most political correct caster. And personally I prefer that but apperantly Archon did not want a caster like that.

    • @HearthStoneZapper
      @HearthStoneZapper  Před 9 lety +1

      ProfMindcraft Ok last comment on this - I don't feel he is bad at casting. I just feel that some terminology used by Reckful while he was casting this very big and important tournament were not something you would expect from a professional caster. Not even from a personality like Reckful which is known for being not too serious even when casting. There is a reason that Frodan conciously called him out for some of his inappropriate statements. He did cross a line at some points during the casting session in terms of inappropriateness.

  • @Hurley76
    @Hurley76 Před 9 lety +15

    I've got to side with Reckful on this. RAPE is common gaming lingo, why are people taking it out of context? I'm pretty sure 90% of gamers have said "oh i just raped that guy" and someone listening understood what you meant by that. NOT THAT YOU LITERALLY RAPED SOMEONE.
    The whole thing about not knowing who the other teams and players where is kinda a dick move on his part, he should have done SOME research at least. But the people saying "OH MA GAWD HE'S SO UNPROFESSIONAL"...it's a card game for fuck sake. And getting mad at him saying "fuck" like 2 times? Come on people it's 2015. Being in the gaming world you shouldn't be sensitive to that kinda stuff now

    • @henchman4296
      @henchman4296 Před 9 lety +1

      Hurley I could care less about the language, honestly. But the fact that he was unprofessional to the extent of not paying attention and being insulting to his fellow caster and teammates was a serious issue, even on the medium of hearthstone. Think about soccer. It's not really a serious game, or at least it doesn't have to be. All you need is a ball, and it can be as professional or unprofessional as you want. But when you take the best soccer players in the world, and put them in a high-stakes tournament called the World Cup, with real fans and monetary investments, it gets serious. People are paying money for this. People are invested in this. It doesn't matter how simple and lighthearted the game CAN be under other circumstances, here it means a lot and should be treated with professionalism. If I was watching the World Cup and the announcer wasn't giving a shit, I'd be pretty upset, and the players who are pouring their hearts into this game would be even more so. I don't see how it's different here, when you've gathered some of the best players of the medium and have real money at stake. It's a professional tournament, and the players involved are certainly taking it seriously, so it's the caster's responsibility to treat it with that same respect.

    I was watching the tournament and glad others are slamming Reckful's dreadful casting performance. Some people aren't good casters, simple as, that happens, however, when a caster does what Reckful did it is fucking inexcusable. He clearly wasn't interested, very lethargic, totally uniformed about the rules/players and showed an incredible amount of disrespect to the viewers, participants in the tournament and the game itself. The fact he got sapped by Amaz later in the event sums it all up. This guy should be no where near the casting booth and would personally encourage him to stick to his fucking FF7, as he clearly is more passionate about that atm! Very embarrassing display and hope I never have the displeasure of hearing his voice again. Absolutely shambolic.

    I don't see any hangable offenses here. He's casual, unprofessional, unprepared - but that's who he is. I don't have a problem with Archon replacing him, because clearly that's not what they wanted. Now everyone knows, if you want Reckful, hire Reckful - if you want professionalism, hire someone else.
    As for anyone calling him racist or sexist, what the fuck ever. He said the word "rape" with absolutely no context toward condoning or apologizing for actual rape. He said the word "Asians".....really? It's racist now to call Asian people Asians? He didn't know the name of the team or the players on it, that's very unprofessional and shows his total lack of preparation - but saying "the Asian people" when referring to people from Asia isn't racist, it's just accurate.

But normalizing words like "rape" or - even worse - abusing minorities as swear words ("this was so gay!") is just totally unacceptable and i wish people like Reckful would at least think a little bit more about how language influences society and can actually hurt people...

      Gas Pankratus I didn't say that I personally thought it was bad, just that on a professional level it was not up to par. There were many moments he spaced out and ignored the other caster as well as the fact that he insulted the players a few times. If Amaz wanted the most serious of casters for this tournament, then why pick Reckful. Now I don't hate Reckful, he's entertaining and hes at least knowledgeable enough to be able to cast Hearthstone, but he is honestly not the caster this tournament needed. For such a big one with a lot of money on the line, I can see why Reckful was eventually sapped from casting this tournament and potentially any other casting opportunities. He is a fine caster when it comes to the game itself, but some people just want casters to be super professional while only being funny when it's appropriate. Also putting the rape and racist words that offended some people aside, he did do some things that were kinda against the basics of professionalism; Interrupting Frodan multiple times, outright saying this team/player sucks aka being biased, going afk multiple times, and just being rude overall. Like I said, I have nothing against Reckful but he was not the man to be casting this tournament.

    Frodan is the king of HS Tourney Commentating, he is in practically all of the highest caliber tourneys as a commentator, to have Reckful on must have made him very saddened, where's Monk when you need him. ;(

    They didn't need to even mention the caster switch, casters change mid-tournament all the time. The outrage over this "drama" is so laughable. Reckful's WHOLE BIT is that he's unprofessional and aloof. And all the social justice warriors (like Chakki of all people) are getting all outraged that he used the word "rape." I didn't even notice it when he said it because I hear it so damn much on streams.

    Do people not watch his stream or did you count on Reckful not being himself? I don't get what people expect from Byron. I am so tired of the pc police at this point that eventually people are going to be replaced by twitch donation voice bot with pre-recorded messages to prevent people from being triggered. Unreal.

  • @mattpetersgm
    @mattpetersgm Před 9 lety

    I found this video of him casting hilarious. I don't think I ever saw myself cracking up to a hearthstone match with casters before. Reckful represents a HUGE part of the gamer community as far as typical mannerisms, I mean I think we all relate more to Reckful than say Bob Costas... He was unprofessional, I'll say that but honestly who the fuck cares? Rachel Quirico is professional, but she's fucking horrible yet is hosting an upcoming Hearthstone event and I can't stand her. If Reckful isn't what they want for their stream, it's their call but I ALWAYS thought it would be cool to see a stream of people commentating unprofessionally with a bit of humor in it for once. Kind of like what Trick2g does and why it's entertaining watching his commentary yet I'm sure he'd be just as "bad" as Reckful here.

    Don't get me wrong rekful is an entertaining streamer..... But this was just embarrassing. He made a complete ass of himself. He was there to do a job and acted completely unprofessional about it. This is the type of shit that makes it hard for people to take e sports serious. Do you think you would EVER see any other sport such as an nfl game commentated this way??? No not a chance. Do the community a favor rekful and just don't cast a tourney ever again or at least be a fucking professional with it.

  • @dalkri5546
    @dalkri5546 Před 9 lety

    I love Reckfuls casting. He seems a lot more "real" than most casters. Perhaps he wasn't the right fit for a tournament of this caliber but he definitely has his place. Especially as an entertainer. The things he said are no different than what many gamers say every day. As a streamer he wouldn't have gotten in trouble in the slightest and that is the job he is used to. If they wanted a professional serious caster they should have got someone else, because that's not what Reckful is.

  • @Garthock
    @Garthock Před 9 lety

    Seems like people just like to latch onto anything from a controversial figure in the community. He didn't do a wonderful job or anything, but these guys are casting a tournament from their fucking bedrooms. These aren't real sports. And even if they're good at it, the mindless conjecture in between games is always fucking meaningless and stupid. I'm never impressed by a person's ability to sound professional while spitting nonsense just so a voice is talking in a background.
