As a Stronghold main on Titan, blocking is only 2/3 of gameplay. You can still attack, and you should so you can get that Restoration buff. Plus, sword kills proc Banner of War. Lament also heals you on swordstrikes, so idealy youre getting constant healing, and also Woven Mail when picking up orbs and breaking tangles.

32:06 "This build is not meant to be a high-slaying build". Yes, yes it is Cross. Strongholds just make you not die, Lament and Banner of War handles the slaying part. You just don't understand how to use the Exotic, even after like four build battle submissions featuring it. Block to avoid things like splodey shanks and thrall, otherwise you just block enough to trigger the exotic perk to get restoration. Then you go to town and murder everything, which you can since you are on Strand Titan. When your restoration runs out, block again to get it back.
You CAN use it like you did, as a tank, but then you really need teammates that pull their weight. You CAN stand there and just block the tormentor, or you can time your blocks to its attacks and swing at it yourself while it's not actively attacking you.

The beauty of buried bloodline and felwinters helm is that it can refresh the 30% debuff from felwinters. Many people don't know that the reapplication of weaken extends the strongest weaken effect applied at the time. The only exception to this is Hunter tether, as its 30% weaken effect will be removed after the tether is gone.

Also a 24/7 Lament / Sword Titan player: Indeed, Strand combinded with stronghold is incredible! Done all GM's last weekend and I gotta say, if you know how to use a sword properly you'll be tanking a whole room whilst cleaving down any champion in your way. Also great way to revive fallen allies with ease. The only thing that can screw you up is getting grabbed by a tormentor. Protip, Never use all the ammo of your sword, because even with 1 ammo, you could kinda block forever. Happy slashing guardians!

Both builds after my own heart, a finisher build and a stronghold build.
Gotta say as a Stronghold main I agree with cross though, Strongholds relies a lot on your teammates ability to deal with ads. The gameplay loop of being able to push very aggressively with strongholds is much better in Grandmasters than it is in Onslaught, partially because we still don't have a perfect sword to pair strongholds with for the scenario. We need some kind of aggro drawing exotic sword of some kind, or one that can passively deal damage while guarding, but as of now the vision just isn't 100% there.

I think you need to expand your stronghold build game homie. I have a strand and solar stronghold build that is great for add clear. strand build: crafted thin precipice with hatchling/tireless blade/swordmasters guard. Thread of propagation/continuity/warding/generation. triple lucent blades and strand surge. Unraveling and threadlings everywhere. My personal fav is the solar one though. Uses crafted thrown cleaver with incandescent/tireless blade. Ember of benevolence/empyrean/solace/torches. two light swings on a group of ads spreads scorch and they ignite. Sometimes I actually gain more ammo than I use with that build just killing ads. For that build I run riptide for champions and sunshot in my energy slot and swap it with polaris lance for boss rooms so I can stunlock/do damage at range and use strongholds for ads upclose. You can also craft a surrounded/duelist's trance thrown cleaver for boss DPS on roaming bosses. Obviously apply the applicable artifact mods and go crazy

Watched this Build Battle yesterday. Was really surprised how well the Fellwinter’s build did, but also thought the Titan “Tank” build was hilarious to watch. Although the Titan build was very good, my one thing about it is that is takes you out of the battle and makes you solely the tank. Whereas other games allow you to be the “tank” and still deal out dps. Still a great Build Battle to witness. Fun stream!

    • @csnation

DUDE I FUCKING LOVE LAMENT STRONGHOLD
there's so much nuance to it. it's a cool and rewarding playstyle and I fucking love it
the strand build Cross used is not that great for onslaught, honestly. it's unnecessarily tanky. just slap on sunshot or something.
incoming wall of text and nerd tips:
    run atleast 1 lucent blade.
never go full tank, move constantly. scoot around with titan skating. both strafe and catapult lift have their pros and cons, but both are good in the long run. every titan should already be used to constant jumping to go fast.
if you don't have restoration or war banner, chip damage will hurt a lot.
air attacks are always quicker than ground attacks. if you have things actively shooting you and you want to kill an add/proc restoration quickly, go for an aerial light attack. it clings to enemies like crazy and has less recovery frames. Lament aerial combos deal a bit less damage and the Lament aerial heavy is unreliable at best. go for them when you feel they are needed.
grounded attacks are best for dealing actual damage. they rarely miss. they have their uses for neutral play too, gotta get a feel for it.
obviously, try to not run out of ammo. use ammo efficient single target damage specials, low maintenance primaries. this helps with ammo economy a whole lot, as you won't need to use lament on damn everything. solar specials are especially great, double dip on surges and scav. you can run ad clear specials if you want, but i don't find it as good personally. hoping for a solar special sidearm.
this is one build where running a kinetic primary is more than acceptable. they're good at base. you don't need any surges on those, hell, some don't even need a damage buff. attrition orbs / kinetic tremors multimach, and explosive payload / firefly fatebringer are my favorites. don't go for long ranged primaries, since you're not gonna be in the back, like, at all.
you're not as invincible in hard content. let anything melee you without block or any high damage resistance / overshield, and you're either on your deathbed or a wasted revive token. if you don't have healing on, you can suffocate under chip damage. exploding units are genuine threats. trading hits should be avoided, as it can be devastating. if you want to take this build to legend and master difficulties, and especially GMs, you gotta learn it, or you're gonna be really frustrated
most importantly - expect major jank. destiny melee is fucked. your hits might not register, your heavies might tp you behind your target or miss entirely, your strand melee might stop working after blocking, sword lunges might break and not move you at all, etc. it is what it is, be ready for it

So the way i use stronghold basically resembles the felwinter build here, to do a lot of finishers, spawning threadlings as a way to do safe dmg, with proximity ward and healthy finisher, fragments are warding, continuity, finality and evolution, using 2 lucent blades and a reserve mod for the sword, otherwise the rest is similar. This tank build shines a lot more in GM, going into the frontline to draw aggro, enemies attack you instead of your team, keeping them safe in the back to dps. As shown by Cross here, tanking dangerous targets like Tormentors completely neutralize them as a threat, and normally you can suppress/blind/suspend them, its not the case for boss variant Tormentors like here in onslaught. The best use case is when tanking a boss to bait their stomp attack over and over, your allies never have an easier time just worrying about melting down the boss

Also i use shackle grenade to disable certain targets, works well for the build's goal, make it safer to attack with swords too, but if you use threadling grenade, feel free to switch continuity out for binding which add more crowd control to your super, good for onslaught, or generation

I really like pairing Felwinter with Solar because the snap can make an ignition on any target if you angle it downward to the floor. If one of the little fireballs of the snap kills an add near a beefier enemy that you hit with the snap, it will activate Felwinter's Helm before the enemy has finished igniting, so that one enemy is gonna end up weakened and exploding at the same time, basically getting fucking obliterated out of existence. It's hilarious.
Also that big ignition/weakening nuke you make with your snaps are giving you more melee energy back if you are in the air when you have the Heat Rises aspect equipped, which is really easy to do if you just jump right after starting an ignition. You can get full melee energy back instantly if you kill a big enough group.

I run a severance enclosure build very similar to that felwinter build, it's been great fun, but I'm absolutely jealous of felwinter's weakness debuff.
Maybe when Prismatic launches I'll luck into a soul of severance/soul of felwinter mark and run with Facet of Defiance for open choice of jolt/scorch/slow/sever/volatile.

Onslaught has been great for the game imo, while the ability has always been there, it has seemed to spark more of the community to experiment and get creative with new combos/builds, dusting off old forgotten and lesser used exotics, etc. Here's to hoping they killed it with Pantheon as well and its just as enjoyable.

For that strongholds build. I myself use Thronecleaver as the sword of choice, then ratking as the exotic. Gives you some extra survivability and invise to get out of s sticky situation, and thronecleaver has some crazy damage to deal with anything i need to. Special I havent settled on yet honestly. controlled burst fusion, hell forebarence would be great for add clear, but ratking is probably good for that. probably best with a controlled burst fusion

      @VoiiDzZv Před 2 měsíci

@@zferolie I’m gonna try it out definitely, but I think I’d prefer it with pugilist because I use the melee a lot more than my grenade. Obviously souldrinker is S tier for healing you when you’re not blocking with your sword.

@VoiiDzZv haha so restoration x2, souldrinker healing, banner of war healing, and also ratking healing and invisibility? Damn you healing more then wolverine haha.
I can see why pugilist may be better, but having always up grapple for mobility and paunches is what i would like, plus since you are a dark subclass you get melee energy per kill, so i felt it would be best to have demo to get both up at once.

Finishers on explosive enemies do not kill you.
The corpses get sent flying and only explode as they land (even if they get vaporized).
Still a good idea to rock Proximity ward though in case you knock the corpse at other explosive enemies to avoid being killed by chain reactions.

Well locks have a curious brain. There I was, wave 10 on Legend and I’ve been slaying with a Stasis Winterbite Triton Vice build and despite being able to shred mini bosses. Boss time came, literally asked for a well on the boss and the warlock just placed it at the back and there I was with my Winterbite. Clearing ads, basically useless with no form of healing.
Yes, got almost 900 kills with Winterbite when all was said and done. Chain Reaction shot with Triton is OP with Winterbite and Edge of Concurrence, but due to low ammo economy with Winterbite, has to be used sparingly.
