Great list! Dark Matter is one of my all time favorites. I hope the television series does it justice.

Rendezvous with Rama (my fave), Dune(one of the best),Project Hail Mary(was good but slow), Ready Player One(excellent candy), D.A.D.O.E.S was great. The complete Expanse series has such greater character development.
    Snow Crash
    Neuromancer
    Altered Carbon
    Foundation
    Stranger in a Strange Land
There's just so many. the above not ranked. Always nice to see other people's lists

@@bartsbookspace Hyperion is only a half-of the story. Fall of Hyperion concludes that story. So you definitely need to read that one. Books #3 and #4 are again a single story that can be considered a sequel to the story of the first two books.

Project Hail Mary hit many of my boxes, especially buddy scientists fixing things, but I still like The Martian more. My top 10 list in no order:
    Red Mars Trilogy
    The Martian
    Snow Crash
A Scanner Darkly (My PKD entry as I have not read DADoES)
    Jurassic Park.
    Dune.
    Three Body Problem Series.
A Darkling Sea (Other than a brief mention of FTL, a hard space opera)
    Children of Time.
There Is No Antimemetics Division (Indie with a touch of cosmic horror)

I wouldn't recommend Leviathan Wakes to a noob without letting them know it's the first of a long series. Might be good (my opinion), might be bad, but they should know.
Novels that don't stand alone but must be part of a series is a complaint of mine regarding more modern SF but The Expanse is freaking awesome.

Love this video. We have similar tastes as hyperion is also my fave book of all time Sci fi wise anyways (lord of the rings is fantasy one for me) so when you reccomend other books here I haven't heard of I'm excited as I know I'm gonna hit with them. I'm going to read sealed empire after I finish stories of your life and others by Ted Chiang. Subbed and excited for your future vids❤

I didn't like Ready Player One (which I know was just in your honorable mentions), at least not as much as most people seemed to. I couldn't take it seriously, even within the premises Cline created. It wasn't the world-build i couldn't take seriously, or even the general plot, that was all kind of fun, but I hated how perfect Wade was. He was too young to have mastered ~30 years of nerd culture. The book was entertaining, but the sheer implausibility of Wade's depth of knowledge kept taking me out of the story. Also, i really can't stand Paolini as an author. I read some of the early Inheritance stuff, but i think i was too old for it when it came out. Since then i've flipped through his new books at the library and still can't stand the way he writes. IDK. i'm picky! but i love the Philip k dick, herbert, Corey, & Simmons on your list!

Well, this video is certainly further evidence that each person has their own unique taste. I’ve read all of these except the first one, and while there are a couple solid choices, none of them would make my ultimate top 10 list. Project Hail Mary would come close. A couple would definitely make my Bottom 10, that’s for sure. But you like what you like and don’t let anyone tell you different.

    Have some recommendations for you.
The Mote In God's Eye - Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle. One of the best first contact stories. The language is dated but easy to get past.
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream - Harlan Ellison
    The Jaunt - Stephen King
The Children Of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky
The Dying Earth - Jack Vance
The Blue World - Jack Vance
The Broken Sword - Poul Andersen
The Gap Cycle series - Stephen Donaldson

I read the first sun eater and most of book two.I had to DNF, I just did not like it. It was slow and he went into detail on things that would be useless in the future. The main character was basically a different character in book two and we never seen a character arch. These books were frustrating and I will never read them.
