I'm sorry, but Miley didn't have a rebrand, she got to experience life outside the Mouse and experiment to find her brand. Jojo, however, is trying to be an adult but still hold tightly onto the industry that made her a star. At 19 i was hospitalized after losing my pregnancy at 3 months. I was scared alone in a college dorm bleeding and knowing i would be disowned if my dad ever found out. Being pregnant at 19 is terrifying and life altaring. Its just completely disrespectful to teen moms and those who experienced teen pregnancy.

This is my personal opinion but I feel as though high energy people like her, people who are capable of maintaining an extremely outgoing and bold persona for extended periods of time, are people who have trouble respecting boundaries and being empathetic to the needs of others. I am wondering how much she was censored. The way that JoJo tells it she reached 18 and decided that she didn't want to do the bow anymore (even when they did the last bit of the tour that had been postponed due to covid she only had a bow in for one song kind of like a homage to who she had been). I did notice that she waited until after the tour to cut her hair. JoJo also blew up her relationship with Nick when she was doing all the social media posts calling them out for not letting her do songs from The J Team in the concert. She was there saying that it is fun being a brand until it is not. She was immature enough to not understand why Nickelodeon wouldn't want songs from her movie on the tour (even though it was on Paramount+), it sounds like they wanted it to be the tour that she was originally doing, not a redone one.
If she was being censored it was the pressure that she felt as the money maker for the family as she said it was really hard to tell her mum that she didn't want to wear it anymore.
I think it def stunted her socially as majority of the time she was around adults and when she was 13-17 it was cool for teenagers to hate JoJo so she didn't want to be around people her own age because of that too. That only changed after she came out and even more after she went on Dancing With The Stars.
It seems like it depends on how the young stars are raised. Goes way back to child stars of the past, but the ones most people here would be most familiar with is Lindsay Lohan vs Hilary Duff, and not just cuz of Aaron Carter back before The Industry destroyed him. (Though Aaron is a tragic example, his parents did not gaf about their kids. Have you seen how adorable he was as a young boy fresh on the scene? He deserved so much better.) Lindsay's mom was too busy living vicariously through her daughter and profitting off both Lindsay and Ali (the forgotten Lohan, much like Rob of the Kardashians.) She was often photographed partying alongside Lindsay, not caring that her teenager was drinking and doing serious drugs. (There's weed and then there's the other stuff. Nobody gets "deviated septums" from smoking weed. Damn near every Hollywood starlet of the time was getting surgery for deviated septums. Code for sniffing so much ish that it destroyed their nasal passages or something to that extent.) Lindsay went through it and has only started to lowkey improve her image. (Iicr she ended up marrying Indian royalty? If true, girl did alright for herself.)
Hilary, otoh, only suffered through her "Horse-face Hilary" era. I didn't come up with the nickname. But seemingly overnight she went from being fkn adorable Lizzie McGuire to this young SJP looking woman following whatever Madden twin Nicole Richie didn't marry. Joel? Benji? Idfk they were twins and I hated their music and both seemed to be into the scary skinny chicks. It's not body-shaming; people were legit concerned about all these starlets going from looking healthy to being extremely thin. Also it was creepy how nobody seemed concerned that Whatever Madden was gr00ming an underage Hilary. Though the "Horse-face Hilary" thing was obviously people being mean. Still, though, would you rather be "Horse-face" or "Hot mess"? Even during all the ridicule and questionable Madden, Hilary's music career was on fire. All of her singles were bops. Hilary also seems to have come from a more stable background and a close-knit family in a mostly healthy way (the older bf being one questionable thing, like "Where were the parents?")
Lindsay and Hilary were not the first nor will they be the last to live out such extreme juxtapositions from eachother in the same world. And Lindsay worked hard but also lucked out when you think of the tragedy of Aaron and Nick Carter's family. There were like 5 kids...only two of them are still alive. Nick is the oldest, Angel (Aaron's twin sister) being one of the youngest two, outliving her twin brother. They seemed like they were living the dream back in the day
It depends on the parents….when the parents are crap, the kids will be crap. Nearly all child actors who grew up train wrecks had crap parents. Lots of child actors with great parents didn’t have issues. Between the Quiet on set doc, Jojo’s unhinged behavior and the rise of family vloggers, I’m hoping we’ll realize soon how bad it is to make children so famous at such a young age. I want to be an intimacy coordinator someday to help prevent the abuse of children in live theater and film/tv, but getting certified is expensive. I just can’t believe how many decades we have watched child stars grow up messed up and still haven’t made new laws or anything to protect kids.

Maddie & MacKenzie were the dance teacher's favorites; they had a fan base but actually faced a lot of hate online because they were treated better than the other girls. They have a uniquely different trauma than the rest of the girls. Still trauma nonetheless. The girls with the largest following at the time were Brooke, Paige, and Chloe. Ratings began to decline as they were tortured and plummeted after Chloe's exit. Nia was a fan favorite but not an Abby favorite. She faced open racism and criticism that no child should ever experience. They all have no relationships with Abby EXCEPT Miss Jojo Bow Bow & Kalani. Jojo and Kalani were implants from Abby's spinoff show Abbys Ultimate Dance Competition. I personally respect all the girls individual choices on whether or not to participate. I do know however that Jojo and Kalani were not invited by dance mom Melissa (Maddie & MacKenzie mom) to a party the night before for all the original girls and those two may have been feeling some sort of way about the Zieglers.
And to add, Chloe, Paige, and Brooke have all been arguably the most outspoken against Abby Lee Miller and their experiences with her.

Growing up myself, my twin and I were pitted against each other in a highly competitive way. There was always a favorite and it sowed a lot of hatred. My sister didn’t see the abuse because she was the catalyst for our grandmother’s abuse. She had control over her by spoiling her and bonding her together.
If those people dropped Jojo, you better believe she’d join the hate train because she sees it, just doesn’t want to admit it
When you're the child of emotionally immature, abusive parents, forced to work from an early age while constantly putting your own actual feelings and needs aside to appease the adults around you (the parents, the coaches, the record company exec, the "industry friends") by playing a role, you skip developmental steps. And those steps come back to bite you later in life when you start having more autonomy from your main abusers. The developmental stages come and force you to go through them. Literally the only way to actually heal from that is to go through those steps and have a damn good therapist who teaches you to validate yourself in a non people pleasing way.
But that takes years, sometimes decades of work. And it also requires distance from the people and situations that are abusive. Which I don't see her doing.

As a person with pcos and has went through a painful and traumatic miscarriage last fall and my biggest dream has always been to be a mother when i saw jojo pretending to be pregnant that really pissed me off! As someone who is working hard to get their body regulated just to so i can someday have a baby of my own… are women with pcos a joke to you jojo?!
Don’t care for her….but I really don’t think she’s trying to make fun of women with PCOS or infertility for that matter….I also have PCOS but haven’t had a miscarriage.I get worried about not having a child too. I’m so sorry that happened to you. Wishing the best for you!
