BMW X5 Sunroof Maintenance Lubrication - E70

How to lubricate the BMW E70 Sunroof with the BMW Sunroof Lubricant 83192157321 or the Castle Endura Heavy Duty Penetrating Grease. Both work very well

Looks like the paste is the same thing as the Mercedes paste. I've got some of that left over so will try that. Thanks for posting. Pretty straightforward.

I would not be surprised. It did not look like it was anything special beyond a heavy duty grease.

I know this was posted quite a while ago, but in case anyone is still reading comments here, it might be possible to overdue the lubricant. If you put gobs of it up there, it could form a dam in the water channel of the tray and prevent the water from flowing into the 4 collection pockets where the drain tubes connect. Even more likely, if it causes debris to stick to the excessive globs of goo, the whole mess will cause the water to overflow the channel and onto the headliner and floating roof panels which will cause the upholstery material to detach and roll up getting caught in the mechanism. Trust me, it's a horrible job to remove/reinstall those floating roof panels (sunshades) and the headliner to reupholster them. Even worse, you can't easily find suitably thin covering to replace the original fabric unless you want to spend $300 / yard for Alcantara. Upshot: put the lube on the tracks and try not to spew excess lube all over the place, especially if it is ending up in the tray water channels.

I have removed the glass from my 2001 E53's standard sun roof (Non panoramic) by removing 6x T25 Torx screws from the slide linkage to clean dead leaves from the cassette. is it possible to reinstall the glass with the sunroof cassette still in the car, or do I need to drop the headliner & case for re-assembly?
