Great reaction. The Kami Band here were Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums).
So "... let's see what this girl's got ... " Su-metal has everything pretty much - and she was not long past her 16th birthday here. The Budokan is a venue people aspire to play - think along the lines of Madison Square Garden. BABYMETAL sold it out two nights running and are the youngest average age female band to headline there (Yui and Moa were still only 14).
Keep the BABYMETAL coming please, I really enjoyed your reaction here. There are so many to recommend and every one of them is different. How about 'Headbanger' live at Legend 1997, that's a fun one.

@@SossIsBoss Budokan is more than that. It's a huge sumo wrestling venue. But it's a huge honor to play at Budokan. You can't just put it on your schedule and arrange the dates. You have to be INVITED to play Budokan. For comparison, the first band to ever play at Budokan was The Beatles. And if you remember Cheap Trick's single "I Want You to Want Me", that was recorded live at Budokan. so for Babymetal to be included in that same company tells you a lot about Babymetal.

Nice. Not a tattoo - BABYMETAL'S band, the KAMI Band, often wore traditional Japanese burial robes & corpse/ghost make-up.
    RONDO OF NIGHTMARE lyrics:
"The waning moon has lit up
the insanity rampant in the shade.
    The laughter resounds around.
It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam.
    I can't escape from it.
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind.
A nightmare rondo is being repeated.
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight.
I can do nothing but run
    through the darkness.
In the woods, in the fountain,
I hide myself holding my breath,
but it's still coming closer to me.
A stagnant voice. An endless night.
    Ah...
If I can no longer get out of here,
won't you show me your figure?
    It flickers slowly
appearing and disappearing in my mind.
A nightmare rondo is being repeated.
    The awakening light
is gone far away out of my sight.
I can do nothing but fall
    into the darkness."
This song debuted in a live show the first date of "Budokan 2 Days" at Nippon Budokan on March 1 of 2014.
*Not everyone gets to play Budokan, you must be invited. I think BABYMETAL were the youngest artists ever to play there. Su-metal was 16, Moametal & Yuimetal were 14.

Nice again & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。You know what, the pleasure for BABYMETAL fans with watching reaction video to "Rondo" is counting how many times the reactor drop his or her jaw. You did 20 times or more 😄 including 4 times when BOH does finger tapping on his bass . Kamis' (=Gods') super plays are excellent enough as a main event, but once the 16-year-old Queen emerges from the underground, she colors everything differently and turns Kamis' plays into a ritual to summon her.

  • @emb5091

GREAT REACTION! The musicians are called the "Kami Band". "Kami" means god in Japanese, and these guys are like gods of music. They are all men and are Japan's best musicians. They are wearing burial gowns and corpse face paint because in the BABYMETAL lore/storyline, the "Fox God" raises the musicians from the dead and calls upon them to play the music for the girls for each concert. The 3 girls have been chosen by the "Fox God" to unite the world through metal.
In this video, Su is just 16 years old performing at the famous Budokan arena in Japan. I believe BABYMETAL are still the youngest band/artists to perform there. The Beatles have performed there too. She has such a commanding presence that you forget that she is a tiny girl on that stage, at just 5ft -1inch (155cm) tall. She may look like a tiny mortal, but she is a metal goddess.
I read a recent comment that described the lyrics best: She is singing about "a nightmare running away from a monster she can not see...she is exhausted and hides in a well. And she gives up and just asked the monster to show itself to know what she was running from before she dies.". This is one of their darker songs. Of the 50+ BABYMETAL songs, Su's solo songs have more depth lyrically.
BABYMETAL concerts like these, especially the ones in Japan, are about 1.5+ hours long, and because the girls go hard on every song, the other two girls, Moa and Yui, use Su's solo as a chance to take a break. 🦊🤘

babymetal have not yet had a female god of guitar, bass, or drums, tho i assume they'd be open to it, but at one point early on they did have a female god of violin, so in the context of past performances, it's technically incorrect to say that the kami band is "all" men.

    • @0okamino
      @0okamino Před 3 lety

@@sirmoonslosthismind That's true, the Kami Band can also include Megami. I'm always hoping they'll bring in a full-time pianist/keyboardist, rather than usually leaving that to backing tacks. Sure, Leda is also a pianist, but he's busy playing guitar. Certainly wouldn't hurt if there was a Megami of the Keys.

"kami" is not a gendered term. many japanese speaking people have the same bad habit that many speakers of other languages have, of assuming male by default, but there is actually a separate form for a specifically male god, just as there is "megami" for women. neither term is necessary here.

    Keep that Babymetal reactions coming.
And yes, the dark vibe in music goes well with lyrics. It talks about a neverending nightmare where she only sees a glimps of tooth and eyes of some creature that is pursuing her. And finally she asks to see it´s face before facing it´s destiny. It´s one ot their darkest songs, though.
And regarding the long intro with instrumental solos, they have quite few songs (live) with such intros: Catch me if you can, Awadama Fever, Kagerou. Another when you can hear BOH bass tapping is "Amore".

  • @icebalm

"The waning moon shines bright, but there's a gloom of rampant madness. I hear laughing all around. It bares its fangs and its eyes gleam. There's no escape. It flickers, appearing and disappearing in my mind. A nightmarish rondo keeps repeating. The light of dawn is so far away, I have no choice but to run through the darkness."
Hi Soss! Good reaction! "Rondo of Nightmare" is a song about a girl trying to escape from... something. We don't really know what it is, and part of the song is that we never really find out. When Su-metal puts her head down and sings softly she's pleading with, whatever it is, to at least show itself before she perishes. As with all nightmares it never gets resolved. Su has two solos on each of the first two albums, where Moa and Yui have two duets each on the first two albums.
The Kami Band are absolute metal masters and this "Mischiefs of the Metal Gods" intro really shows it! There's a pool of Kamis and they rotate in and out depending on availability as they all have their own bands and projects, but here in order of solos we have: Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (bass), and Hideki Aoyama (drums).

I'm happy you're enjoying your journey into Babymetal, as they have a lot to offer, and no two songs will be quite the same. This is probably their darkest song, lyric wise, and once you read them you'll know why. They also have several really fun, happy songs like Awadama Fever, Catch me if you can (which also has a killer Kami Band intro), and Iine (pronounced ee-nay). Some songs with serious topics like Ijime, Dame Zettai which is an anti bullying song (and my favorite) and Megitsune, which is about how women should be respected for their individuality and strength and not be looked down on if they choose not to live up to what some believe the role of a woman should be.
In any case, Babymetal are unique in the metal world, but are greatly respected by their peers, like Metallica (who they've opened for), Rob Halford (who they've performed with), Dragonforce, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc...

Besides the title, the only English word in this song is "rondo".
    The rest is all Japanese.
So, not bad for a 16 year old kid. : )
Su has a penetrating clarity to her voice that makes it perfect for metal.
She can be clearly heard through the heavy drums, bass and guitars.
Su performed three solos that night.
She did 'No Rain, No Rainbow', followed by 'Akatsuki' earlier in the set.
That Black Night Budokan concert from March, 2014 is still one of my favorite concerts of all time.
And of course that "summoning ritual" 'Mischief of the Metal Gods' is pure fire.
Not sure which requires more courage.

Another epic reaction to one of BabyMetals best songs to react to, the intro is amazing, and just builds into the song. One thing that I love about BabyMetal is the stage /set design. I wonder how much they spend on the setup because they are mindblowing. When you watch their live performances you see how amazing the sets are.
If you want a song to blow your mind, check out one of their earlier tracks, Megitsune...this has one of the greatest breakdowns of any BabyMetal songs, and will literally blow your mind. I think you'll really enjoy Akatsuki there's a really good guitar duet that I think you'll love. Another interesting point of this song is that it is a Rondo, if you are not aware a rondo is a musical style where the song has various episodes, usually contrasting episodes in speed and style and the episodes repeat. The theme and lyrics of the song is about a girl who is trapped in a never ending nightmare where she is being chased by a monster she can't see. In the end she resigns herself to her fate but she asks the monster to at least let her see it before it kills her. So the musical style complements the theme of the song because its arranged like repeating episodes. Like repeating dreams. To add to the discomfort if you notice at the start Su actually starts out of time or off the beat making you feel instinctively that something's not right. Finally there are a lot of abrupt stop and start moments with different changes in the time signature. All together it creates this dark Alice in wonderland feel of being stuck in a repetitive uncomfortable cycle.

Don't sweat the lyrics too much. One of the reasons the band works so well around the world is that they work hard to break the language barrier and put through the meaning of their songs with the music, vocals, expressions, and choreo. This one in particular is about being stuck in a recurring nightmare, and even without the specific lyrics, based on the title and the way the music cycles and the tone of the vocals you can really pick up on that after a listen or 2. Great reaction!

I've been looking up the drum solos of Senri Kawaguchi and watching Nyango Star. They're blowing it up over there man and I wish COVID wasn't here so I can actually go over there and experience some of these live shows and enjoy some real good tonkotsu ramen. *sigh*. Great reaction, you did good showing your genuine appreciation of the talent.

She also took a nap before the show, if it was me about to perform in front of 14,000 people I wouldn't be able to sleep. Hell when I was 16 I would get nervous before a show in front of 120 people at a VFW hall XD

Good reaction! There's lots of nuance in the song. Its called "Rondo of Nightmare". A rondo is a song comprised of different styles of music to make one song. In many ways lots of BabyMetal songs are Rondos. They incorporate different styles of music into one song to create a story. The story of BabyMetal and the drive and purpose behind them is pretty fun once you get into it. You should keep a lyric sheet/webpage around just so you can read the lyrics and get an idea of the content, but you're not wrong, the emotion of the musicians and singers makes the words irrelevant.

@@SossIsBoss Akatsuki is another Su solo, so I would save that until after you've seen a couple more songs with all three girls or maybe one of the Black BABYMETAL (that is Yui and Moa as a duo) songs or you will think they're all Su solos and you get less of what makes BABYMETAL different and unique ... and there are only 4 Su solos (plus a couple of cover songs she did).
'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live at Sonisphere in the UK 2014 or 'Megitsune' would be good choices for your next reaction.

After a 7 minute video, "that was it?". I know how you feel, it goes by in a flash.
I agree with the other comments, you should do Catch Me If You Can next (linked it in a reply before, doing it again) czcams.com/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/video.html . It's probably the song with the biggest contrast between vocals (and lyrics) and music, at least when it comes to songs with all three on stage.
I also think you should do some newer stuff in the near future. I usually hate compilations, but it's the only live videos we got of BABYMETAL after 2014 (excluding the two live performances on their official channel who suffer heavily from copyright blocks). How about "Starlight", the first song of the so-called "Trilogy of Lights" and the unofficial tribute to deceased Kami Band guitarist Mikio Fujioka. He died in January 2018, a few days after falling from an observation deck while star gazing on New Years (you should read the lyrics after that one, too) czcams.com/video/ZC5Ci-Mt_RU/video.html . There's an official music video for it, but the song has way more impact live in my opinion. Zimmer's compilations are definitely some of the better ones, especially because they write the concert and audio sources in their descriptions and don't switch locations every 2 seconds.
A little explanation about the Trilogy of Lights beforehand, if you decide to watch it (everything unofficial): It's their songs Starlight, Shine and Arkadia from the latest album, Metal Galaxy (it's pretty important to do it in this order and the Zimmer channel has all three as live compilations). They stand for Loss, Acceptance, Moving on, respectively (amongst other interpretations). A lot of fans think these three songs as a trilogy represent their year 2018, which was a very dark one with the death of Mikio, the leaving of Yui, the uncertainties that came with it and their decision to continue as a duo (with one of three rotating support dancers, aka Avengers, on stage at live shows).

Damn I just love your reactions. Funny, but I don't really care about not understanding the lyrics in a song. I just enjoy feeling it. It's the same with my other favorite group Rammstein which sings in German.
They have an all English version of The One (you haven't reacted to that one yet) and to tell you the truth, I prefer the original version. As you said, the words just seem to fit perfectly when she sings in Japanese. Although I truly appreciate her efforts to learn English, their songs sound a lot better in Japanese imo.
