This will break your heart if you read this. I've been a nurse for 15 years, and worked with a LOT of homeless people, many of which are completely brain fried from drug use. Adults with intellectual disabilities end up homeless, and they like to party also. But sometimes they just get lost out there. Without family... services are really limited in the US. And they are stuck on the streets with the drug addicts and criminals.

I searched more into the types of intellectual disabilities and it looks like I have the 'mild' form even though my intellectual limitations are very severe to the point I’m non-functioning. I’m 21 and I can’t understand adult concepts like finances, why inflation exists, what interest rates are, taxes, the stock market, investing, the economy, etc, no matter how many times it’s explained to me. I don’t know how a compass works and how people apply north, east, south, west directions to real life. I can’t read a map. I obviously can’t drive. My brain is devoid of higher thinking so I lack analytical/problem solving skills. In every group project I was involved in during high school I was pretty much the useless and dependent one, I had nothing to bring to the table because I had nothing going on in my brain. I plagiarized all of my essays for these same reasons, and plus my verbal IQ is very low, meaning my vocabulary is highly limited so I can’t identify a lot of things and put them into words, and I also struggle with syntax so when I speak I barely sound coherent as I verbally can’t put together a sentence (it’s different from typing because I can really take my time and think about what I’m going to say to sound decently coherent). I always scored below average in the standardized tests that I took from elementary to high school. My PSAT score was an 840/1600. I’ve never had a real job (outside of one job that my dad got for me where I bypassed being interviewed and got to work as a server for about a month, the restaurant owner didn’t let me work the cash register because I kept forgetting how to use it and I only worked during mornings for 3? days when it wasn’t busy) and no place would hire me anyways even if I applied for one, I wouldn’t even pass the interview process because I have no employment history, skills, an obviously low verbal IQ, slow learner and intense anxiety rooted from my low intelligence. The only signs that I don’t check off is the part where it talks about the social aspect of things, specifically difficulty understanding signals from peers (I can definitely read people’s body language, intentions and have no problem understanding social cues). I’m also not a gullible/naive person to fall into social manipulations in fact I’m too paranoid for that to happen to me anyways. However I don’t have social skills mainly because of my low verbal IQ, lack of general knowledge, lack of hobbies/interests and limited curiosity. I’m very self-aware of my severely below average low intelligence and my struggles, but I’ve never been diagnosed.

i’m a 16 year old who just got diagnosed like 2 days ago. YOURE LITERALLY ME. omg. i also seem to have the “mild” version and also ASD, BUT HOLY CRAP. you put everything i’ve struggled with for years into words! my math and logical thinking skills stopped developing in the 5th grade, yeah i can still multiply and divide, but i have no idea how to pay bills, how inflation works, how % work, i don’t know how to analyze books, i don’t know what to write in book reports, i struggle with remembering things, like i could reread one thing for HOURS and it would not stay in my brain, i also have a very hard time with learning new things, you mentioned how people can explain and explain something to you and you would just not get it, same here. my mom has been teaching me how to do math/physics/chemistry for years and i would forget everything she’d just say when the learning time is over, nothing would stick into my brain..and for years i’ve felt less of a person bc of it..i thought something was wrong with me, that i’m some sort of freak, but it’s just a birth defect, i was also born kinda weird..and i have a gene mutation, i have a guy in my extended family who also has this problem, he’s 30 years old now. somehow got his life together but yeah, i’m really scared how life’s gonna turn out for me bc as soon as 9th grade is over. i cant really study further bc my country doesn’t allow people like me to study..

The social norms to be honest nowadays in recent standards is cringy and worthless or just trivia that goes no where and will only offer paths that are bad leaning
I only socislise in particular topics that is not really the norm or I just get into any topic I can think of as I can possibly can that copes
However the rest I don’t really have since I was misdiagnosed or accused with no proven diagnoses either, I was diagnosed with chronic relating issues.
