Excellent video. I currently have the same problem with my 2010 Ford Fusion, and I will follow your example. My local Maryland Ford dealer was essentially going to fix the issue, intermittent blower operation by part swapping. They charged me $90 to “diagnose” the problem and said I needed a new switch, pigtail connector and blower motor, and offered to fix the problem for what they considered to be a reasonable cost of $900. I naturally declined and will instead install a new cabin filter and pigtail from the source you provided.
By the way, if your son’s car was driven in an area where they use salt on the roads please check the rear subframe (some call it a cross-member) for safety, as they are notorious for rust on the 2006 to 2010 Ford Fusions.
Many thanks!
Hi Jay. You’re welcome. Thank you for the note on the subframe. His is a southern car - so no rust here. Let me know how your repair goes

This is the best video addressing this ridiculously common problem.
Thank you for the kind words.
ford fusions are trash 🥲
Thanks! I fixed the car today. The problem was, as predicted, a melted pin connection. I bought the Hotput pigtail you recommended. It worked well, except that the wiring connectors included in the package were too small in diameter to even accept the wires on their own pigtail, so I had to purchase ones of the correct size.
All told, the repair cost me about $25 versus Crouse Ford’s quote of $900 for the repair. The dealer did get me for a $99 diagnosis fee, which was entirely bogus, as they said I needed a new switch, blower, and resistor. If they had really diagnosed the problem they would have determined that none of those components were faulty. Thus, they charged me $99 for no real work performed.
Again, I very much appreciate the help your video provided.
Hi Jay. That's awesome! I'm glad I could help. That's what most of my videos are all about - helping others. I appreciate you coming back and keeping me updated. Rick
Thanks! Will do. I ordered a new cabin filter yesterday, just as a precaution. The blower motor is currently working, but had gone intermittent twice in the last month, leading me to doubt the dealer’s conclusion that the switch and motor needs replacing. I suspect the problem is just in the pigtail.
Ultimately, I just would like the car to last us at least until near year-end when we will likely replace it. Sadly, fixing the rusty cross-member will cost more than the car is worth. No complaints though, as we’ve gotten 340,000 miles out of it in the last 15 years, and the motor and transmission have never been opened. It’s been a great car and we hope your son is as lucky with his. Unfortunately, here in Maryland they mix beet sugar with the road salt to make it better adhere to the roads, but that also applies to vehicles. Ours usually always expire from rust long before they have to be taken out of service for mechanical issues.
Best Regards!
I want to thank you so much. After changing the fan and blower motor I felt overwhelmed when I cracked open my user manual. This is my exact model with the EXACT problem and you are saving me so much time and trouble!

I just want to say thank you very much for taking a time to post this video. My girlfriend's 2010 Ford Fusion AC wasn't working and she's very upset it's real hot in Arkansas right now I took it to a couple places one place charged me 45$ to look at it then quoted over 900 to fix it. It was the blower motor resistor pigtail. Now my girlfriend sees me as a man and respects me all thanks to you.
Hi Darryl. You're welcome. I post my videos to be helpful for others. Thank you for letting me know it helped you. Rick
Did y’all rule out an air conditioner compressor tryin to figure out if it’s my blower or the compressor
Hands down the best breakdown I've seen. I'm having the same issue. I just bought a blower motor. Less than two weeks is out again. So it's probably the resister. 😔 Now I have to try to change the resister.
I hope it solves your problem. Let me know how it goes. Rick
Similar thing happened to me but i changed the resistor and blower motor so I'm changing the connector now. The connector doesn't have signs of wear so hopefully this is it because I'm running out of ideas.
Excellent video finally someone tells ya everything you need to know always had to watch 10 videos to get a little info

Thank you!! Went through all the trouble shooting and my resistor along with harness connector both need to be replaced. Removed the resistor and will now order the parts. Thanks again

I had the same problem and I literally wouldn't have known where to look for the blower switch with the burned out tips great video thanks for the help
You're welcome. Thanks for letting me know it helped.
I just toke a small screwdriver to clean the tips of the plug in and the air came back on !
Good. Just keep in mind that those contacts probably don't conduct electricity as well as they used to - and I expect they may fail again someday.
Great video. Thank You!

Great video, thank you! Took it to a mechanic about 7 months ago to get my AC fixed, and it worked for about 4-5 days until it went intermittent again, then totally stopped working after a month. I called back and they never would answer. Took it to another shop today (as summer is approaching in South Carolina!) and they told me it would cost around $700 total. They did tell me that the Blower Motor Resister and Connector are melted and that eval only costed me $150. That's fine.
So now, I've order a new cabin filter, blower motor resistor, and blower motor connector for $70 total and will just do the repair myself.
What should I look up about the pigtail? I found a bunch of videos on replacing the blower motor resistor AND the cabin filter, but I'm not entirely sure the process/what I should look up about the pigtail part and changing that connection.
Thank you so much, you've saved your local college student $500 and have been beyond generous with both your information and video.
Hi Andrew. Thank you for the kind words. That is the reason I do most of my videos: To help other people. Scroll to timehack 11:30 and watch again from there. Line-up the indexing tabs on your original connector and your new connector, start with that wire, and cut and splice one wire at a time. It's hard to explain how to how to use the splice in words. You can look for another video on butt splices. Please come back and let me know how it goes. Rick
awesome video!. I checked mine and it was the resister connector. also the connector to the blower moter.
Thank you. I'm glad it helped you.
@8.00 - I see you also have the common "Tire Pressure Sensor Warning" fault going on. Would love it if you could do a diagnostic on that module, with any potential solutions. I'm having the exact same warning. Have replaced the TPS modules at the wheels, didn't help. Dealer says it's the module that the TPS system talks to. Very expensive repair.
Hi Chuck. I didn't even notice that. I was strictly focused on getting his AC fixed. When our cars reach that age - I just live with the TPMS light. I know they are always a lot of money to replace, and I can live without it. Sorry I can't help you with that one. Rick
Thank you for posting this video! I'm just now having this issue with mine and your comprehensive troublshooting process and explanations were resourceful. Made me really wish i had gotten an owner's manual when buying it used. Gonna try this out this weekend to see if I can fix the problem after snagging an owner's manual online.
You're welcome. Let me know how it goes. Rick
@@rickstid-bits it worked perfectly! i procrastinated a bit lol but it turns out the connector wire was frayed and heavily corroded. after replacing the resistor and connector, it's blowing harder than when i originally got the car. thanks for the links too since that saved me a ton of money

great video thankyou
Hi Billy. You’re welcome. Thank you for leaving me a comment. Rick.
@@rickstid-bits you did a great job explaning things and how to troubleshoot i also like how you determined how the wires and cables melted... possibly by too many manual controls and clogged cabin filter. ill be doing this on my sisters car this weekend already pulled the part out and it too has melted wires. i wonder if its a known issue with these ford Fusions or simmilar cars.
Thank you for the kind words. I know I go overboard on details for most people: but if I’m going to try to teach someone about something, to me, the details are the most important part. Let me know how it goes on the other car. Rick.
So a few days ago I noticed my interior fan was on although my car was off. It was on although the control was off. I already knew my resistor was bad because one of the speeds didn't work. So whenever it wouldn't turn off I switched it to that setting and it stayed off. Later that day I tried turning it on and it no longer worked at all. Replaced the resistor and didn't work. Checked fuses and relay. Bcm module? Control module? Need advice because this has me lost.
Hi Kenneth. I'm sorry that I can't help you with that. I haven't had to troubleshoot any other issues on this car.
I have the same car but where radio screen is giving you outside temp, I’m not getting that at all.. is that normal? my ac not working as well pls help
With not seeing the temp yes. His Fusion came with an extra feature . Mine doesn’t come with the digital temperature either
I have the exact same problem! Go figure, it was likely due to not replacing the air filter. It was pretty clogged up!
My dad replaced my resistor for me on a used car we bought for me while i was in college. He didn’t change the filter. Needless to say i live in texas right now and I don’t have any AC again
@@braxtonpark223 did you get your ac fixed yet? Or checked? WhTs the price to get it fixed. I have the same issue
Thank you

I've got the same problem on my 2011 Fusion and my question is when splicing that pigtail on, do I need to disconnect the battery before I start snipping lines? Can I just pull the fuse module out to cut power to that line? Or can I just start cutting as long as the car is off and the system is powered down? Thanks much!
Hello. Yes. It's always a good idea to disconnect the battery first when working on electrical.
Great help! thank you!
Mine melted the resistance and the plug I bought the parts for the Ford fusion on Aliexpress here in Brazil and they are very expensive
Hi Jonathan. Let me know how it goes.

I don't see where you taking the blower motor and wires out at
Hello. I didn't have to remove the blower motor to do the repair. The resistor module will unscrew from that area and you can work on it from there. Rick
thank you!!

Thank you Will. I'm glad it helped you.
@@rickstid-bits Thanks to your video I was able to fix mine! Just in time for a big snowstorm!
Did you post a link to the part you bought? I thought you said you were going to but I can't find it.
Hi Linn, The links for both parts are in my description. Rick
Mine is blowing just hot air, any fix for it?
Hi David. That could be a few different things. I only know about the issue I troubleshot here.
Is it still working today? Have same issue with my car..,
Hello. Yes. That was the fix.
@@rickstid-bits thanks for the vid. My car been doing great since the repair.
Nice! Thanks for the update.
What was wrong with it?
So, I have the exact same model of car and fixed the exact same thing last August. Then, about a month ago my heater started to stop working out of nowhere and my AC is doing the same exact thing it did last year. I'm wondering what else I need to do this time around? I'll be replacing the pigtail wiring/resistor yet again, but am curious as to why it went bad again so quickly? Maybe something to do with the wiring job? Or the blower motor itself?
What about an air conditioner compressor
Hello, I'm sorry I can't help you with that. This is the only issue I've had to troubleshoot on this car. Rick
So I replaced my blower motor and it works perfectly fine, but still no air coming out the vents
Check your cabin air filter behind the glove box. Ours probably hadn’t been changed in 10 years and did the exact same thing. When I changed it, the result in airflow was astonishing.
Thank you very much.
You're welcome.
@@rickstid-bits Could you please tell me which is the best way to link the cables of the new resistor connector ? I’m changing the resistor, the connector and the cabin filter . Thank you in advance
Good Morning. I explain it starting at around time 10:30. My pigtail came with butt splices. That is what I used. That pigtail also came with heat shrink tubing around every connector. Only cut 1 wire at a time. And start and reference what wires you cut based off that plastic indexing tab. Use that reference on the old connector and the new connector.
@@rickstid-bits thank you, I did all the job. Cabin filter included. Excellent video and advices
Nice! You're welcome. Thank you for letting me know the outcome.
How do I test a fuse?
If you have an ohm meter: Remove the fuse and check the resistance across the 2 tabs. Zero ohms = the fuse is good. An open = fuse is bad.
If you have a DVM: Leave the fuse installed. Connect the ground lead to chassis ground somewhere. Touch each side of the top of the fuse with the red lead. 12 volts on both sides = fuse is good. 12 volts on one side and 0 volts on the other side = fuse is blown. You will need a very small, pointed tip on the red lead to get down to the metal piece in the top of the fuse.
How did you get if fixed?
Time 8:15 in the video.
Can you come & fix mine please?? 😊
