A friend in Australia introduced me to this song a few years ago, knowing how I was grieving for my blue heeler dog (9-1998 to 12-2010), who epitomized a true blue friend. As soon as I heard it for the first time, True Blue became part of my heart and soul. I've had four special blue heeler dogs since, each of them a special needs senior (each visually challenged: Good Boy, Happy Dog, and Sweet Prince) except for my current best friend, Lil Prince (who was young, but had been jettisoned by someone that no longer wanted him), and I thank God and my first blue boy, Wiggles, for being instrumental in saving the lives of each special blue boy that he and God have found for me to love and be loved by. I'm born and bred in Midwest America, but I Am Australian (with most appreciative nod to Judith Durham and The Seekers). We are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on earth we come ... I am, You Are, We Are Australian! Thank you to John Williamson and others including James Blundell (Time on His Hands) for sharing the voice, heart, soul, and song of Australia!
Julie Smithson Wow, Same here! My dog Ted was a gorgeous blue heeler but we had to sadly put him down. I’m still shattered to this day and my family has always had a Ted version of this song since he was a puppy. It went like: Hey blue bears Can you bear the load? With your two fluffy ears, And your big black nose, And your four red feet, And your big bushy tail, Hey blue bears, Can you bear the load? I miss my dog Ted and I still love him to this day, we had to put him down 9/11/2018 due to heart disease and we couldn’t save him. We always called him blue bears, bears, teddy, teddy bears, but his name was Ted. 💙

Real True Blue Aussie spirit, brings a tear to your eye. The bloke's a legend. Hope we hang on to this Australia, God's own country, the best on the planet.
Most people think of Steve Irwin when they hear this, but I think of my grandfather. Absolute legend lived through 9years of cancer, smashing all the expectations of the doctors. This was played at his funeral and I can’t but shed tear whenever I hear it

Love my adopted home country, wherever I go, I keep telling my new friends life in Australia, everyday train ride to work and sometime my fighting attitude I experienced being treated badly in the train, but I grew strong and learned to live like a real Aussie, Aussie to the end!!
My Uncle Bluey was nicknamed Blue or Bluey because he had red hair of course. That's how nicknames work in Australia. He was a long haul trucker most of his life and recently passed away. We played this at his funeral and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. 💔 Thanks for being my Uncle Blue
True blue legend. I still remember swinging on the hills hoist. Moved his house when I was late teens and he wrote an a awesome letter of appreciation. Saw him at the Bridgewater pub regularly. Top bloke!
"Hey True Blue, Don't say you've gone. Say you've knocked off for a smoko, And you'll be back later on." Whenever I think of those lines, I think of the people that are gone that I dearly miss. I wish they'd just stepped out for a break and they'll be back. RIP to the people that are gone that I love. RIP Steve Irwin.

Fantastic song. I have lived in Australia for several years and have been able to see the real aussies with my own eyes. I have always deeply loved that country, so far away, and I have always felt myself part of them. Precisely for this reason I never made compromises to stay and live in Australia. Absolutely lovely song. This was played at my Uncle Max's funeral in 2011. He was a veteran and True Blue. When I listen to this, it reminds me of him. ❤
My dad was a true blue Aussie battler, the men that built on the rich man's empire whilst providing for their family that's Gold. I miss you Dad and I'll always remember you playing this song and I will be forever grateful 😇💕
Something else too, quite apart from Johns’ wonderful voice and a hallmark of this bloke, is that genuine, unblemished Aussie accent. It’s not over-done, it’s clean and natural and it’s in every song he’s done since Old Man Emu and beyond. It’s a shame he left The Country Music Association of Australia. Especially since he started it. I can only imagine what went on in the boardroom when he left. Can we have him back please? Can all those interested having John back just leave a note here? That would be nice. Especially… Terry
Built a little camper out of my 88 Pajero and travelled half way round OZ working the land. Tazzy and the territory I got a little carried away, went full wild and off grid. Love the people, love the land. Good blokes too. Rooted sone lasses and sampled local goon, got smothered in stars, watched the sky burn and bathed in ocean. Changed me forever. Aged me fast, went from 25-50 not understanding my generation.
Most Aussie song ever. Change the anthem. Makes me so proud to be an Aussie and remember what it was like growing up. Its changed now well it changes as I was growing up. Stop selling out our country from beneath us and start teaching true Aussie values again from a young age

Thanks for being my Uncle Blue
True blue legend. I still remember swinging on the hills hoist. Moved his house when I was late teens and he wrote an a awesome letter of appreciation. Saw him at the Bridgewater pub regularly. Top bloke!
Hearing this song at a funeral hits different

Rip to your dad
"Hey True Blue,
Don't say you've gone.
Say you've knocked off for a smoko,
And you'll be back later on."
Whenever I think of those lines, I think of the people that are gone that I dearly miss.
I wish they'd just stepped out for a break and they'll be back.
RIP to the people that are gone that I love. RIP Steve Irwin.
Played this at my hubby's funeral in Jan. ( Steve passed away Xmas Day 2014) my heart breaks ev'ry time I hear it but I love it!!!!
RIP Steve, great song for probably a great man.
Silver_Knight this song was done long before the name steve Edwin was even herd off...
I'm an American, and an Australian friend of mine turned me on to this song.I can honestly say this is the most beautiful piece of music i've ever heard.I had never heard of John Williamson before. The only Australian native musician I had heard of was Lonnie Donegan. Now I have John Williamson to add to my collection.Thank you to Australia,
I LOVE this song! By sister and my teen aged nephews and niece chose this song for my Brother In Laws Funeral (who died suddenly at age 41!) R.I.P Tony xoxox

A perfect song for our great Nation. Thanks John and thanks for the post.
Hello Linda how are you doing?
I honestly love your posts and always enjoy reading them in my lonely spare time. I'm so sorry I invaded your privacy, but I'd love to be friends with someone who could share such sensitive post content, which means you're a woman of integrity. I wanted to add you but sending you a friend request without your consent is inappropriate because I'm a public figure and it wouldn't take much either, I'd appreciate it if you send me a friend request now so we can be friends and text better here on CZcams❤❤
Bluey got me back here😁
I'm a pom and I love this song. So close to us. Up Oz, we love ya
It should be the national anthem🇦🇺
In an Aussie and we need this as our national anthem💙
Fantastic song. I have lived in Australia for several years and have been able to see the real aussies with my own eyes.
I have always deeply loved that country, so far away, and I have always felt myself part of them. Precisely for this reason I never made compromises to stay and live in Australia. I didn't wanna dishonour the place i love. Unfortunately I didn't succeed but i still today listen to John's songs and think about Australia everyday. Greetings from Italy.
Good on you, mate.
2 years later since this comment we still welcome you with open arms mate
Greetings from Ireland. This song just sums up Austrailians, well done John Williamson you've done your country proud, great song.
Lol this is awesome True Blue 😂😢 🇦🇺
I love this song and I love Australia! I long to visit this wonderful country and it's people. I have always felt Australia was our true brother, not America. Blessings from Canada!
Steven L that's the best comment & complement.
Steven L thank you 😊
Give it to me straight that's us
Does anyone else remember swinging on the Hills Hoist, billycarts and Dragsters??True blues!!
Nah sorry
@@nataliaclark288 So maybe you're a millennial like my kids??Never had the satisfaction of building a billycart, going on day-long bike or horse rides and bush walks??(Dodging snakes!)Not to mention the multitude grazes and sometimes broken bones. We were so much tougher and self-reliant in those days.Peace be with you.
Absolutely lovely song.
This was played at my Uncle Max's funeral in 2011. He was a veteran and True Blue.
When I listen to this, it reminds me of him. ❤
Thanks to Steve Irwin for showing this American Australian music. Been a fan for a decade
Got to love John, he's my nan's cousin, family forever ❤
My dad was a true blue Aussie battler, the men that built on the rich man's empire whilst providing for their family that's Gold. I miss you Dad and I'll always remember you playing this song and I will be forever grateful 😇💕
When I hear this song all I think about is Steve Irwin. Love you mate. Be in my heart forever ❤️❤️
Especially…

Aged me fast, went from 25-50 not understanding my generation.
such a beautiful song, was played at my great grandads funeral as it was his favourite song. miss you poppy 🤍
LOVE THIS SONG SO PROUD TO BE TRUE BLUE
Wow a beautiful song! for any person listening for wherever they live.

DictatorSayers loved Steve Irwin,I will never forget him, regards from UK
this was played our 32 year old son's funeral, captured Tom's spirit so well.
I’m sure would have put a smile on his face.
Most Aussie song ever. Change the anthem. Makes me so proud to be an Aussie and remember what it was like growing up. Its changed now well it changes as I was growing up. Stop selling out our country from beneath us and start teaching true Aussie values again from a young age
Child of immigrants (Anglo and ethnic) i sing this song all the time,it always makes me cry. This country is born in you.
