Good morning. So here I go. I start my day by making my way to the coffee pot for my first cup. Then I proceed to the lap top to check on my favorite person to see if she has posted anything new even tho it is not Thursday yet. Do I miss her YES . When someone touches your life in this world we are in like this ,yes you are missed. Like a sister, best friend, travel companion. Girlfriend, mentor for so many of us so yes, but don’t expect me to call you every day because I am doing my own thing. HaHaHa. When I go into withdrawals I go back to the start of your journey and binge all day. So TAKE THAT! You are loved,

Funny as usual. Love it. When I am having fun bikepacking, in all honesty, even alone, I don't miss people at all. That does not mean that I am not glad to see them once I get back though. Furthermore, you meet so many people while riding that it fulfills the need for conversation, if such a need be. 🙂

From what I vaguely remember reading, ants will continue to try to find their "home". No new ants will accept them. Basically, losing your colony is a death sentence.
And when it comes to missing people, it's about missing the conversations. Missing their smell. It's missing sharing the experience with that person. So, when someone says, I miss you, it's also saying, "I'm thinking about you" which is always a sign of caring for someone. The sense of being connected to someone is pretty huge for many people. It's not a co-dependent thing, but an actual desire to just share most moments with someone you really, really like as company (continually).

Noooo!! I guess I should have stepped on her for a quick and painless death.
I understand what you're sharing. For myself, I think it's because I go into a deep relationship with myself on my trips. I truly LOVE hanging out with ME! My mind and heart are solely focused. I laugh so much! I learn so much! I fall more in love with myself on every adventure! If I started thinking about someone and thinking about how I can't wait to see them again - it would ruin what makes my trips so emotionally powerful and invaluable. Again - this is my natural path of life and do know it is not the common view of most. Which is GREAT!! If most thought like me there'd be way too many people out there so yes everyone...get back in two weeks! 😂 Thank you for taking the time to engage in the question!! 😃

@@HumanontheLoose Believe me. I get it.
I just took a mini bike camping trip after a conference about 10 days ago. I've been planning to ESCAPE for about 8 months, but I finally gave MYSELF permission to do it. My partner was 100% on board and didn't think it was a problem to just do the trip. "I" put the restriction on myself. I won't be doing that again.
I could only get away for a few days because I had obligations I couldn't cancel, but those 3.5 days were glorious.
I biked (on a rail trail - Great Allegheny Passage) as far as my legs would take me - stopping for food when I hit town, and then I camped in a tent as dusk approached. There was no schedule. No goal (except to get back to the car before the cold October rain dampened the trip). It was the best way to bike I can imagine. No stress. No schedule. Smiling ear to ear.
And then when I got home, I could be TRULY happy and could share the joy I felt so that my partner got happy me.
In the spring I will do the full route I wanted to do versus the partial route as I will be able to carve out ALL the time I need.
And I want to do it alone. I don't want to answer to anyone else's needs but my own. I know I won't enjoy it as much if I'm worrying about other people's needs (I'm a people pleaser).

@@HumanontheLoose I thought I had replied, but I don't see it now. Ugh.
I said, something like, "I totally get needing to just "do" or "go" somewhere just for yourself. I've been trying to fit that in for months. I finally snuck in a 3.5 day get away to test out my gear and to just do SOMETHING while I can. It was fabulous. I didn't miss my partner because I was BUSY experiencing something new and wonderful>> I mean, come on - Pennsylvania in October? WOW!
And I WANTED to do this by myself so that it was no one to please. No one to think about except for what I wanted to do. I did camping too because i didn't want to worry about making X miles until my hotel/BnB. I wanted to pedal until I needed to stop and find a place to pitch a tent. I ate along the way when I was in towns. It was fantastic!!! I WILL be doing the whole trail (and others) in the future. And probably by myself because I don't think anyone else would want to do what I like to do at the pace I like to do it.

Sorry I’m late watching your video. I was down in Northeast Nevada. On my journey through Idaho, I saw several Watch for Stock, signs. So guess where my thoughts went. As an introvert, I too have a love, hate relationship with people. Alone time is very precious to me, so missing people has never been a problem, so I understand your what’s the big deal 😂. That being said, there are people who are very important to me, and when we reunite it is a wonderful experience. While watching your videos it is like catching up with a good friend. That’s why I appreciate you. Thanks for being in this world. 😊

@@HumanontheLoose I too am a wanderer, each journey opens a new window. Our trip to Nevada took me from summer into winter đŸ„¶. The route follows the Columbia River watershed and its Snake River tributaries. Each vista, smell and storm, widens my imagination and takes me to new discoveries and deeper wonder. I rode this country as a buckaroo in my younger years, and memories mingle with new experiences. I write articles about these adventures for monthly fly fishing news letters. Writing let’s me share my ideas and observations on life. Hence my appreciation of you putting yourself out there. We both expose our vulnerability. Thank you as always for sharing yourself with us.

First of all, I’m enjoying your videos so much! I totally get what you’re saying about missing people (I remember kids who’d get homesick in the middle of a slumber party and thinking huh? Telling my mom how weird that was - I mean it was one night!)
now, at 60, I feel the same way about vacations and girlfriends calling their husbands daily. I don’t get it đŸ€·đŸŒâ€â™€ïž. P.S. I’ve totally wondered about a fly over carried in my truck and whether they feel lost when I let them out the window. LOL

Perfect ending with lingering thoughts! Enjoying the comments. Based on the scenario you used, no I do not. I have no inclination to think about who I'd want with me or who I want to get back to see. I am consumed by the adventure! If I started missing people I may feel the trip isn't as grand as I'd hoped. A wonderful selfish time to only self focus. Keep in mind many don't attack adventures as deeply nor as confidently as yourself. This is why it doesn't cross your mind until, as you stated, significant time has passed. Some significant others I know don't want to call but say they must or they will get a full ear if they don't. Creating false misses for the needs of others. Great topic Naomi!

I think the ant will miss his tribe if he is not accepted by the new tribe.
My guess is that you don't miss people as much as others do because you are having so much fun doing what you do. If you lived a boring life or a life in which you lived with highly unpleasant circumstances you might miss a person that makes you feel good and mentally gives you relief from unpleasant feelings.
Thank you for another great video. I love the life you lead and since I am unable to hit the road on my bicycle, at this point in my life, I enjoy living vicariously through you. Can't wait to see your next video. I miss you already.

As a favor to them you need to remind your viewers to "like and subscribe". CZcams will then recommend your content to more viewers and more people will benefit from your videos. Your comment humbles me!! YES - you are right!! It's taken me awhile to feel that way and quite frankly it's the comments on all the videos which inspire me to do more. I'm learning it's all about the thumbnail....if people are clicking on it YT picks up on that and starts to pimp the channel out. The algo doesn't pick up on whether I say "subscribe" "like" but I get your point. It can only happen with new footage as this trip was already done. Those with many subs had huge savings and hired professional YT marketers for their channels or they are in a general market. Bikepacking is a super tiny area...but...I'd like to branch out in general adventure which would grow my channel. Thank you for taking the time to help inspire me!! I really needed it especially since times right now are darn tough!

I do solo backpacking....my wife goes with me one or two times a year but I really miss her when I'm in those unbelievable places (Sierra Nevadas) and I want nothing more than to share it with her.
I'm a little sad that you don't have those experiences. You seem to get along just fine the way you are. I know I won't get this answer here, but how is it that someone so FABULOUS hasn't "settled down". You appear to be the whole package of wit, beauty, fun and energy. Like my brothers girlfriends....he's the "crazy" brother. My wife an I used to look at his really cute and put together girlfriends and wonder "whats wrong with her" ....that she would fall for my brother. So...Ms. Human...whats not seen about you...what are we missing? For gods sake you have a pet wild squirrel...I'm peeling open my quite weathered "laminated list" ...if there are skeletons in the closet, I should know before adding you.

Years ago "til death do us part" was marrying young to build the tribe and dying at 30yrs old the average life span. Now it represents a few lifetimes. I could have been married a few times and with one be worth 100 million right now. BUT - no one I fell in love with kept me thinking I could commit to such a huge span of my life. I also love change and am empowered managing life on my own. One day when I get older I will make the choice when I'm back to one life span. Hahaha...I guess that lands me around 70yrs old. You are awesome and touched you found your "one" who will last you "many" lifetimes!

Yeah! TY sooo much, Its always great to see new content from you and it brings a smile to my heart. Funny the things you think about when your off by yourself. Interesting topic missing people? I think with loved ones I feel obliged to call and let them know I love them and miss them. I try to keep an online journal so people know I'm still alive. The reality is, the one I really was missing is my dog. Weird I know, but Coco is my true love. Although , I seem to always end up alone, I'd still like to believe sharing the magic of the journey is best shared. I'd love to try a long tour with "the one". If 2 people can make it through all the ups and downs of a bike adventure I think they can make it through anything. What's up with you and those disease carrying thieves, Charlie and Chip? Freudian=freaky kinky furry? LOL🩊đŸč🐭🐿🐿🩄🚮

LOVED your reply and thank you so much for sharing your personal thoughts!! In NO WAY is missing a pet over a human "weird" as I think it's actually very common. Pets before people. Especially since they don't know where you are...when you'll return...text you. 😂 I will certainly follow through on your "the one" idea one day. "The one" I happened to run into at the right time in life out of all the "other ones." 😂

@@HumanontheLoose I know not weird, and yes very common (fur Babies) animals are nicer than people. I just take it further. I'm a vegetarian and its all about the raising of animals to kill and eat them. Don't get me started. Another great topic for a campfire discussion. My argument for the missing of human contact, the magic of a campfire discussion. its really about the missing of the shared experience. I believe the experience is better if with a loved one. But also cool to share with other like minded HUMANS! One of your many amazing qualities is your independence . LOL yep "All the other ones"đŸŠ„đŸš”â€â™€

My wife and MIL talk every night, but their conversations have devolved into the same questions every night. What's for dinner? Was it good? Then the MIL frets over the damnedest things like a coffee pot left on until 11am. That kind of stuff is mindless chatter.

The only 'people' I've quietly missed are my cats when I've been on a trip (for the first few days) and i get over the feelings and get into trip-mode. Never have i missed any persons whilst tripping; I'm not a romantic and people who gush about missing their significant other make me hurl. Additionally, I am more like a feral cat than the metaphorical ant referenced. I don't necessarily care to socialize or engage unless Need speaks or my internal radar says somebody might be cool. That being said, I've had more cool interactions traveling than when at home; 'home' is rife with entities i have to play nice with that I'd prefer to see doing a Wiley Coyote impression over a cliff...

I ride alone because I simply want to be alone, I never want to stop the trips, I rarely miss people, generally people suck, especially in groups.
I want my bride to know I’m safe, but honestly I couldn’t care less about sharing my experience with anyone and I couldn’t care less what people think about that.
I love meeting people as I ride, crossing Canada I kept track and talked to over 300 strangers, great to chat, and great to see them in my mirror as I bugger off.
I won’t ride with friends, only my boys when they can join me. The boys / men now, are awesome companions, they don’t whine or bitch and they’re always up for the challenge.
I simply don’t want my experience to be impacted by anyone, selfish maybe, and again don’t care!
It’s me, my bike, my gear and travel guitar, a must have to fill the evenings, but other than that I simply don’t give a rats ass :)
I will say that after a couple months on the road I did start to miss Cheryl, but for Christ sakes we’ve been together since 1981, so I’m sure she’s happy to be on her own when I’m gone, and she encourages me to have a life that includes time on my/our own. Seems to work for us and after what, 42 freaking years together it keeps both of us fresh and happy, what else could you ask for. Dependency is a fools game, bound to fail at some point, again my opinion with virtually zero thought to what others think. Life is short, it’s my life that I share with her but we’ve never wanted to give up who we are as individuals, loosing our identities like a couple of BORG from Star Trek.
You’re not alone in your opinion, you’re strong, independent and adventurous, an outstanding role model for young women who have the common sense to put their phones down and see life live, not produced and spoon fed to them on stupid Facebook or tik tok.
Always entertaining and always puts a smile on my face.. thanks for sharing these!
    Cheers from Canada as always,
    Rick

Wonderful comment! Thank you for sharing your personal experience! Whenever people want to do things alone those uncomfortable with the thought like to sabotage it by using words like "selfish." It's quite humorous and always has me rolling my eyes. I remember that was used when I was in the baby making window and by not wanting kids some would say I was being selfish. I'd think to myself...misery loves company. 😂 Which goes with your saying...yes people can suck! Thank you for your kind words!! 😃

Or....I wonder if the ant feels triggered by using the word tribe?
Maybe he feels free in your tent not having to meet the expectations of all the other worker ants.
Maybe he doesn't agree with the vast majority of of ants conforming to whatever is normal for the time?
Maybe his central nervous system is regulated, calm and safe in your environment?
So......no......I don't think he misses Jack shit!
