- I play a Magic the Gathering Online Pioneer league with Sultai Emerge, a deck from Patreon subscriber SCUMxRUNNER. This deck uses card advantage 3-drops like Foul Emissary and Fierce Empath to enable big stupid Eldrazi Elder Deep Fiend or Distended Mindbender on turn 4, then you get to tempo them out. Mosswood Dreadknight is a slick addition to this BUG value shell when you're not ready for the Eldrazi yet. Llanowar Elves, Lovestruck Beast, Brazen Borrower, and Tasigur fill out this Sultai Midrange strat. Emerge from the deep! MTG

As a sometimes Lotus Field player, you should definitely be hitting the opponent with the Ashiok minus every turn in r4g2. The Lotus Field deck is full of important 1-ofs, so much so that they play Temples over surveil lands so they don't have to surveil important pieces into the graveyard. If you exile enough of their key cards, they often have a very hard time winning even if they can get Ashiok off the battlefield. E.g. if you exile their one Fae of Wishes, they literally can't win with Approach anymore. And the loyalty on Ashiok is largely irrelevant since they don't play any normal-sized creatures; it's either going to stay in play, get bounced, or get one-shotted by something like Chandra or Dromoka.
Partway through the video, I said "Huh, these are some really unusual Modern decks." Then I saw the title and understood.
The solution to every meta is to play a different format.
This is so true it hurts
I really appreciate seeing some Pioneer content here! I know you mostly do Legacy, and I appreciate that content a lot, too, but I play Pioneer regularly!
32:42 i did the math its 0.0004%
A bit higher if you allow any 4-of. There are 8 4-ofs in the deck, but he's seen a copy of half of those, leaving 4 possible sets of 4-ofs to hit. So there's 4 times as many ways to get four of a kind, leaving a probability of 0.0016%.
The calculation is (16/51) * (3/50) * (2/49) * (1/48), which comes out to 0.0016%.
why 16 and not 4?
There are 4 different card names that have 4 copies in the library, so there are 4 x 4 = 16 different first cards you could hit. After that, there are only 3 copies of that same card, etc.
Emerge is one of my favorite mechanics, I hope it gets more love. Happy to see you playing this deck
There's a card called Mosswood dread night that will probably get me to invest and finally play pioneer. I just want to jam 4 of those and whatever else .
It's awesome in Insidious Roots. I play a standard roots deck with it and Tenacious Underdog for beats and grind potential. You want the list? It's a bit slow, but a ton of fun.
The deck it shines the most is standard golgari midrange imo
@@xaropevic7918 well I ain't playing standard so gotta wait for pioneer the rock to be good
Thanks again Bosh for playing the deck
Flush out that hole with your deep-fiend.
Probably still nicer than Plowing your Mother
Xmas came early my fav content creator plays my favorite format
Call that Foul Emissary Belle the way it attracted all those Lovestruck Beasts!
I generally don't like putting even four Painlands in a deck, so six seems really ambitious. Also, the deck has 13 blue sources, not 9. I think your Legacy brain mistook Watery Grave for Polluted Delta.
Shout out for the Pioner content. Keep it coming please!
My personal take on the flavour of the Mosswood Dreadknight having trample is similar to charging badget having trample! It's not the length of the weapon, but rather that they are that relentless that if they aren't entirely stopped, they will charge all the way through - even if dealt a lethal blow, they refuse to relent. (Made even better by the Dreadknight coming back, time after time.)
This video shows the amount of win percentage that could be gained from extensive format knowledge
36:16 Archfiend is a very interesting idea. I remember someone dying to triple tap target creature spells with it, but a 6/6 is big
Elder Deep Fiend pack, smoke 'em if you got 'em
I am constantly looking for updated EDF decks in pioneer blessssss
49:15 Two Explores 👍
The Frillback and other March set treatments remind me of the OG Power Ranger coins from back in the day
Always love seeing Pioneer, especially Sultai!
Was wondering why all the lands look weird then realized oh it's not legacy XDDD
I'm fiending for this content!
Elder Deep Friend:)
Love your content and your positive attitude! Prefer Legacy and Modern but this deck is definitely interesting and might just tempt me into the pioneer waters!
36:04 i don't know that your opponent having specifically another fatal push is something you have to be too worried about ;)
I love the pioneer content!
Fierce empath is a great place for this deck
With so many adventures, you think it's worth leaning in a bit with a payoff or is that too cute and dilute what the deck is trying to so?
The adventures are already 2-for-1s that enable your big stuff. You could try to make room for Edgewall Inkeeper, but I don't think it's worth it.
@@BoshNRoll That's what I thought you were going to say lol. I've tried adventures in Pioneer before and it never really worked. It's just, being a 1/1 for Beast and how explosive it can be is cool. But there's still plenty of card advantage even outside the adventures with Emissary and Empath. Why do all the cool things have to be too cute?
BoshNRoll playing a golgari deck with a blue splash wondering if 9 blue sources is too low. Me looking at the rakdos deck with a green splash I am working on with 8 green sources.. In my defense the cards only require 1 green.
Using ye old hypergeometric if you want to have a 95% chance to get 2 out of your 9 blue sources you need to see 25 cards.
32:32
The chance of this happening is 1/249,900 or ~0.0004%
Also the chance of drawing all of the pain lands before drawing any other land in round 3 is 1/134,596 or ~0.0007%
The chance of both happening in the same video is 1/33,635,540,400 or ~0.000000003%
I gotta ask, why no up the bean stalk? Is it too slow?
Pioneer, card isn't in that format.
Beanstalk is in pio. Sees play in Niv to Light @@UnrelatedUsername
@@UnrelatedUsername check scryfall, card is currently standard legal and not banned in pioneer.
@@thelilblueguy6016 Oops, I guess I assumed it was a LOTR card because of how strong it is.
It doesn't sac to Eldrazi or attack for damage. What would you cut from the existing engine for beanstalks that makes the deck stronger?
In round four at 58:02 why didn’t you upkeep tap opponents lands with deep fiend?
Because their lands have hexproof.
@@BoshNRoll oh right, nvm I forgot lotus field has hexproof
Bosh smoke pack em you if got em
First
pioneer?! what the F is pioneer?
The Zoomers’ Eternal Format. RTR-present, no fetchlands, no modern horizons.
A pretty cool format, it should’ve got some bans a week ago, but alas
@@janmelantu7490 Lucky bastards who haven't been turned into cash piñatas by bullshit direct-to-format sets.
pioneer is such a miserable format imo. none of the decks are fun to play against and the threats are so much more powerful than the answers
good old pooroneer, forgot that 'format' was even a thing
