  • In this video, we discuss different kinds of breaks that can be inserted in LibreOffice 7 Documents (and also MS Word). Using breaks can save a lot of time and formatting issues particularly when working with large documents like reports, dissertations. Follow the video for a short backgrounder on different kinds of breaks and to learn how to insert them in LibreOffice 7.

Great tutorial. The only video I've ever seen that thoroughly deals with the concept of breaks in any office suite.

Oh sweet lord. Thank you so much!! This is such a nice tutorial that actually explained how I can handle the various issues I have been having.
Well.. all except one.. I have a document with 2 pages I want to copy over but when I do it shunts a box to the next page because the page formatting of the document I'm trying to insert doesn't match the bigger document I'm trying to insert into. I may now be able to get it to work based off of what you've shown but there are still issues I'm running into.
    Still, this is very helpful.
If you would be willing to help me with my current problem, I would be eternally grateful...

Many thanks for your kind words of appreciation. I am glad that you found the video helpful.
I am not clear about your problem but as per my understanding, it appears that you have document A ( presumably in LibreOffice Writer) and another document B ( word or LO is not clear) which you are trying to merge into document A and maybe a box ( I am assuming that it's a textbox ) is jumping to another page due to some hidden formatting in the first document.
Can you please also have a look at my following video to see if it helps in this situation ? Starting with a blank master document, you can bring many files to a common format inside.

If the above does not work, it will be helpful if you can let me know a little more about both documents A and B ( pages, format) and exactly what is not working. .
I will surely try to have a look. But please see the above video to see if it helps you solve your issue. Thanks

Thanks for the video, i tried what you said for a section break but i couldn't edit that section independently afterwards, it changed everything else in the document. If only programs were designed more simply.

GREAT video!!! Best that I have seen. I have been implimenting what I learned in your video in my libreoffice document. I have a question about something that kind of confused me though. If on a certain page I have a sentence or paragraph that runs on to the next, do I add a page break or a line break? Thank You

Many thanks for your kind appreciation. I am glad that you found the tutorial useful.
As regards your question, if at the end of the page your paragraph is running into the next page, under normal circumstances there is no need to create any break manually and let the text flow on to the next page. A paragraph may thus start on say page 1 and end on page 2 and that's completely fine. So if I have understood your question correctly, I would say one doesn't need to do anything and let the paragraph flow normally to the next page without the need to insert any break manually.
      Hope this helps.

how we go on after entering pages with other orientation and continue our let say at footer the number of pages ?

Hi . Many thanks for your question. I am understanding your question as follows :
After you break the document into 3 sections (as shown in the video), one of which is a landscape orientation section, you loose page numbering on the landscape orientation section. So if the the last page in section 1 (portrait) is page number 3, the landscape section does not have a page number , and the next section (again in portrait orientation) starts with Page number 4 i.e. page number of the middle landscape section is missing.
If the above is what you are asking, the solution is simple and as follows :
      1. Just click on the footer region ( bottom edge of the page) of the landscape section page ( or the first page if there are more than one pages in the landscape section) to reveal the footer band.
      2. Click on the 'Footer ( Landscape)' drop-down arrow that you will see on the right side of the footer to reveal the footer menu.
      3. From the menu choose 'Insert Page Number' option.
      4. You should now see the page number in sequence appear on the landscape page and the correct page number on the next page.
      That's it.
      4. If you wish to add page number in the 'Page 4 of 7' format i.e. also include a total number of pages , click on the footer again as done in step 2 above , type the word 'of ' after the displayed page number and press space, click on the footer drop down and choose 'Insert Page Count' option.
Page numbers will now be in order and displayed correctly.
      Hope this helps.
      Cheers.
