Thanks my friend. Appreciate. 🎧🎹🎤
Yeh, I don't think anyone could ignore the sound from a Minimoog. Once heard..WOW!
💯
Thanks for the great Mood Taeg review. This show has made me think it's time I dusted down some of the million Numan albums in my collection
Thanks for your comment and watching Electronic Cafe. No problem. We love the Love the Mood Tag LP. . . . . and good luck dusting down your Numan albums. MW
You are most welcome! And we at the Electronic Cafe love Happy Robots Records! A great label!!
I loved the first four albums, Replicas being my favourite. Such good times !! On Broadway is my favourite song, Billy Currie's solo still gives me shivers to this day
Thanks for sharing and watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Check out our interview with Billy Currie

Great album. Love it. Thanks for watching 🎹🎤🎧
your most welcome Dee, great album !!
Having added a specific and lengthy comment to pt 2, I thought this seemed a good place to make a quick and very general observation about Gary's releases.
On becoming a serious fan (1979), whenever Gary released a single I immediately learned to go looking for the 12" release. His 7" b-sides generally contrasted with the a-sides anyway, which I always thought was a brave and dedicated creative move -- but the =extra= track on a 12" b-side could sometimes just be drastically unpredictable.
I recommend that any fan consult a good discography, and go in search of those tracks. They add quite a dimension to the perception of Gary's address to his public.
Great comments. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
He kicked off the Touring Principle tour in Glasgow's Apollo with OMD as his support act, which consisted of Andy McCluskey, the other guy and a reel to reel tape recorder.
That was the 1st "proper" gig Numan did. Apparently all the lighting he used, and being in an old Victorian theatre with electrics not made for something so grand, were causing buzzing though the PA and causing the sound engineers a headache. But they fixed it and he took the house down. My brother was at it and he said the stage show was something never saw before and when Numan walked on the stage and saw how many people had came out to see him he got emotional.
Great comments. Thanks for sharing and for watching the Electronic Cafe. MW
Really this epìsode offering brief but nicély thought out introduction to Numan's early aĺbums and career. Thank you especially for introducing me to Mirrors. What's a shame they did not make any more albums. Keep going with your electronic cafe it's a gem of a watch
So nice of you. Glad you enjoyed it - thank you. Glad you found us and thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Replicas is absolutely brilliant !
Thanks buddy. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Good episode lads
Thank you for watching Electronic Cafe my friend. Much appreciated 🎹🎤🎧
Thanks for your comment and for watching Electronic Cafe. Much appreciated. Glad you liked. MW
Good intro to Gary’s early stuff, thanks ... also worth checking out the two live double albums from this period. Not sure if it was my end, but there’s a massive imbalance in audio levels on this vlog between the guys speaking and the music clips which detracts from the content a bit ... keep up the reviews though, good stuff, thanks 👍👍
Both Living Ornaments ('79 and '80) were mentioned.
Thanks for comments and watching Electronic Cafe. Agree, live albums are great. We did mention Living Ornaments 79, 80, 81 in the Episode. Thanks. MW
Another amazing one. Will be looking up a couple of your hot tips. Never into Newman always seemed too much like Bowie to me, but I’ll be listening to those three albums as love the dystopian blade runner/hardware world of replicants etc. Thanks guys 🤗💙
All three are classics Tomgirl! let me know what you think of them when you listen to them!
Thankyou for the recommendation of the demonstration by Drab majesty downloaded it off Bandcamp fantastic album many thanks
My pleasure. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe.
🎹🎤🎧
Thats brilliant. Glad you liked the Drab Majesty recommendation - one of our aims is to share great music to like minded people. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. Much appreciated. MW
Glad you found Drab majesty buddy thats why we started the Electronic Cafe
'The Pleasure Principle' album is immaculate in my book.
Andrew Burns Hard to disagree Andrew. Thanks for watching the Electronic Cafe and comment. MW 🎹🎧🎤
Yup my favourite Numan song also Andrew!
I remember watching Kenny Everett when Numan performed I Die: You Die, a slightly different arrangement, and then We Are Glass was released as a single, a bit confusing at the time, both great tracks released on the Cassette version of Telekon. Gary played Crash and Stories during the Teletour, odd he didn’t play them at Wembley’81. We did get She’s got Claws and Cry the Clock Said though.
Great comments + thanks for sharing. Thanks for watching Electronic Cage. MW
Incidentally, I am sad to learn that Mirrors didn't last. I saw them supporting a Numan/Foxx co-headlining gig ('Back to the Phuture') at the Troxy in Limehouse in 2011. Their performance was excellent, and when I chatted to them afterwards they seeemed like an extremely nice bunch of young lads.
Yes. Sad isn't it. Great band. Thanks for sharing + watching Electronic Cafe. MW
I tend to view Pleasure Principle the same way as I do The Residents' Duck Stab album. Both have good songs all the way through and are consistent in feel. They are also arguably the most accessible from either party from their "classic" periods. I see Telekon as I do Mark Of The Mole. Both are massive electronic albums and filled with emotion. Although a lot of people would call both cold. I'm not most people.
Thanks for comments and for sharing. .......... and thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Replicas. There is nothing before or after it. Even now in 2024 it is the peak of genius.
You make a good point. Such an immense album. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Thank you for mentioning Drab Majesty! I saw them in San Francisco for their Modern Mirrors tour and they were absolutely amazing!
Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe and commenting. I’d love to see Drab Majesty live. Great band. MW 🎹🎤🎧
Great episode, I agree We are so fragile is such a great song. I also thought Do you need the service (recorded at the same time) was an amazing song. I know many people love the pleasure principle but of Numan's machine period, I feel it is the least excellent (as they were all great) The pleasure principle needed some guitar.
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your comments and also for watching Electronic Cafe. Appreciated. MW
Spot on that enjoyed it so much cheers
dazman Brown Thank you Sir. Much appreciated and thanks for your comment and for watching the Electronic Cafe. MW 🎧🎤🎹
thanks Dazman

Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe Alison and commenting. MW 🎵🎹
@@electroniccafemusic you are so welcome thanks so much for your reply
Check the Replicas cover again. You'll find that it's NOT a refection. It's a different image of Gary looking back at him.
Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
I've ordered some of the albums that you recommended thanks 👍
Excellent stuff. Hope you enjoy. Mw 🎹🎵
Loving these videos. I Dream of Wires has to be Numan’s most underrated song. Proof that machines have soul.
thanks for the kind words my friend more good stuff to watch on the Electronic `Cafe
Thank you and thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
I really loveD his stuff. Have bought every album. Been a few highlights along the way: Pure, Splinter for instance but not anything as remarkable as the break through period you are talking about. It was bloody fantastic wasn't it. Nice one.
Incredible guys
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
The eponymous album and their punkier sound in general are still massively underrated.
i agree, i love those early Tubeway Army albums. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Hi U2 I got some camouflage cds as haven't got room for vinyl well good thanks 👍🎶🎧
Excellent. No problem. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. You should join our FB Group Paul. MW 🎹🎵
I love replicas it's one of his best early work
Yes. It’s hard to disagree Gary. Thanks for watching Electronic Cafe. Much appreciated.

I see yr albums are re issued ones... Eny idear how much the originals would be worth... I got em all😁👍sweet material guys
Thanks for your kind words and for watching Electronic Cafe. We tend to have both the original copies as well as the reissues - a good place to check values is discogs. MW 🎹🎵
Three random comments 1. Currently using early Numan hits to try to teach myself keyboards. 2. Not a great fan of Telekon myself; I think it's a bit thin melodically compared to its predecessors. 3. That snatch from the Mirrors album does sound very similar to The Lightnng Seeds' "Pure". Keep up the good work lads !
Thanks for your comments + for watching Electronic Cafe. MW
Replicas, Pleasure Principle and Telekon are just massive favorites of mine. I later discovered Tubeway Army album and loved it as well, but it is definitely not like the "dystopian" 2 3 and 4 albums. I was severely disappointed with the trash that came afterward, I assassin, the fury, whatever. I was mad at the saxophone euro disco trash sound of those albums. Berserker was fine and it is ok. But the stuff that came later never interested me. On the strength of those first four albums I consider Gary Numan one of my top 5 favorite artists. Oh and his live version of On Broadway is just fuckin brilliant.
Thanks for your great comments and for watching Electronic Cafe. MW 🎵🎹🎧
I concur with the comments about seeing Tubeway Army on TOTP. Life charging for me. Went on to tour with Mr Numan in 89 and have been mates ever since. Heading home to blighty and Wembley. See you there.
Great comments Graham. Love that. MW
