- R.I.P. Paul Gray, truly one of the biggest inspirations to me personally.
Check out the statistics from the days following his death: bit.ly/znrq90
From the IMV dvd. For Slipknot bassist Paul Gray and Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga. Bass and drum jam of the Slipknot track "Duality". - Hudba
Bass and drum.... the backbone of every song
Richard Jones Drums keep tempo and time, while bass gives the “reverb”/thickness of the guitars... Both are quite under appreciated
Spot oM man
I miss when slipknot put more of an emphasis on drums and bass 😭
Damn right, get sa great rhythm section and you can do anything.
the back seat to every song* but heck no, drums in metal are up there with the guitars, and poor bass has no place.
I love Paul's bass tone. So solid and tight.
+Tony Serven If i only do one thing with my life, its to get his tone
Add some overdrive pedal dude.
Especially the higher notes
Yes. Me too.
+Michaels Covers honestly just get some fresh strings and use a sansamp bass driver on the svt preset with the gain pushed a little more, most of this tone simply comes from how low he tunes and the fret buzz
It's crazy to think that Paul didnt even know how to play bass when he first met Shawn and Joey. It goes to show that the most important keys to being successful in a band are passion and determination.
missing 7 elements here and the song is still hard and solid as fuck. This is the work of a good bassplayer.
RIP Paul
and a good drummer
Amazing drummer, for sure. But Grey was not a great bass player. He got the job done. But come on guys, I could teach a non player how to play that in 20 minutes..just as long as they could remember where to put their fingers a few things. I did see him use an up stroke in this song, however. I'm sorry, but I am not going to pretend that he was this great player ,just because the dude died. He got the job done. But he was far from being a good player.
Well Gray was technical not such a good bass player but he wrote many parts for bass and guitar.
In my opinion he was a great songwriter.
DatTuna agree with you, I think creativity and skill is something different
I think I remember Paul say that he didn't know how to play bass
Roy Mayorga is certainly one of the most underrated drummers in metal of all time
Duality is such a great song, stripped down shows how groovy Slipknot really is!
Was
Yeah. I love it. And the groove is just there..
I love that he’s is smiling. The earth and everyone on it will miss Paul. May he rest in peace

2 LEGENDS
Weird hearing just the bass and drums, puts a complety different spin on the song!
There is band called Disciplin a kitchme, try to listen them
As a bass player myself, my ears always isolate the bassline. Did ever since I was a kid, that's why I chose bass over guitar.
Juanito El Oso Bass players unite
@@JuanCruz-un9jy same here. I literally tune everything out except bass and have trained my ears to pick up baselines easier than anything else even do the same with double bass drums too
Bored TV you know Disciplina kičme! Nice
Paul's big thing is kinda his live improvisation; he's always switching it up.
he was unique in his playing
Tigga Da Wigga It shows how good his musicianship is
He still improvised a bit in this vid with a couple licks
One of the few bassists who inspired me to play bass :')
What about Fieldy from Korn or Ryan from Mudvayne.
+shallowcoder1 fieldy is really easy to play. it literally is just really good basses that he uses
Easy, sure, but innovative. Before Fieldy, no one played like Fieldy.
He said one of few bassist! He didn't one of of the great bassist idiots
La Fonda SAME
A decade gone by, and we’re not fully the same without you Paul. Especially your brothers of Slipknot. Corey himself was beside himself for so long after you had left.
I am constantly amazed at how integral bass is to music.. it's the inexplicable groove that isn't represented by the guitar riffs and drums of a song when you're just looking at the pieces
It makes me laugh when I see Paul smiling when he’s playing cause it makes me wonder if he still have hat huge grin on stage wearing a scary mask playing heavy music lol
Well, he doesn't....
He probably did
Not anymore dude.
I'd wager money he did. He loved it
I'm sure he did.
my humble opinion: when musician is rushing, he knows what he's doing. I could assume that Paul was one of the main creative forces in Slipknot..
What do you mean? Could you please elaborate what your saying im interested
@@colorblindartist2882 he plays in front of the beat
Oh ok i see what your saying. Yeah paul was a boss. Wish i had a band to be in just like slipknot
@@1alexanderkup1 getting closer everyday actually!
Paul was actually the most creative and devoted Slipknot member, he loved to play and he wrote the majority of the songs, he was an inspiration to everyone around him, not just to be a good musician, but just to be a good person in general, Paul was an incredible person and I personally look up to him.
You can see the passion he had for playing :D
RIP Paul, we all miss you.
what a loss of talent to the world
Amen to that brother!!!!
RIP
Rest in Peace Paul Grey, your forever missed

R.I.P Paul Gray ❤️
As a bassist myself,Paul Gray is really inspiring to me. Love seeing that smile on his face. Cant stop watching this vid. Haha.
i love how paul gray didnt even know how to play bass when he started....now hes one of the most respected bass players ever
I love how he’s always smiling. A lot of people don’t know that this it’s so metal to laugh and joke
Props to Roy... very well played :)
This is exactly why i am learning bass thank you Paul for broadening my spectrum in music and for giving me a strong desire to venture from my drums and guitar into the bass. May you rest in peace
R.I.P Paul! Miss you so much man. Love how the bass almost sounds like how a chainsaw would start up
Today is 8 years to the day you left us
Steven Olson can't believe it
he look so happy when he played his bass
oh god why....
2020 Remember you Paul!❤️
its such a shame you can never hear his bass on the cd's. its so amazing. it needs to be heard more...
On Iowa it was quite solid. Vol 3 had mixing issues.
X4AJ Rick fucked the production, I love the album but you can tell he wasn’t doing what the band wanted
I heard his bass no issues. And plus if you took the bass out of the songs it would sound like shit.
@@alexotey7035 that's true, it's just hard to pick it out when listening to the mix, unless it's a song like prosthetics, purity, iowa, or even the virus of life.
@@adelineinactivity Vol 3. had mixing fuck up XDD One of the worst sounds i have heard from such a big band... But those songs are amazing, but ruined by the mix :(((
2020 lockdown U.K. 🇬🇧
Still watching.
Love you Paul ❤️❤️
2020 I'm here for this masterpiece

I never know how to play bass before, Paul was my inspiration.
I really wish it was easier to hear the bass on the albums
Enjoyed this jam session....Paul was a solid player
Yeah. I just wish I could find his signature bass. It's impossible to find.
It's just wonderful. The play, the tone, everything's just brilliant. RIP Paulie. :(
His writing and playing style influenced band member especially Jim Root... He wrote with Joey Slipknot, Iowa, Vol.3, All Hope is Gone... RIP Paul . RIP Joey. You left the band and the band teared apart..
Sick bass player - what a cool, down to earth guy too
i like his smile while playing! he had a good time right there :)
RIP :(
That walk in that he does for each chorus is so badass and I would’ve never noticed it if I hadn’t watched this. Love ya Paul
always was my fav bassist growing up through 2000-2010 reason i picked up a bass to start playing in bands, plus he was one of the only left handed bass players i knew of, always thought that was cool.
RIP Paul Gray, we miss you and love you!

This video is awesome! R.I.P. Paul, you sound AWESOME and Roy did great too! I could listen to this all day, wish there was more.. *****
Holy shit! this is pure gold! I love Paul bass sound, is unique. tight drumming too
yeah Roy playing Duality like it's nothing :D
Roy plays everything likes it's nothing. Been a fan of his for 30 years. He used to play in a great punk band called Nausea. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. He used to do sound for my old band when we played NYC. He just got off tour with Ministry and killed it. Just like he has with everyone he has ever played for. Highly underrated drummer that can play any style of music.
To be fair, Duality isn't really very hard to play on any instrument.
@@imcnblu your video on any instrument please
@@rogerstarz: It really isn't though. Also, that's not a valid argument.
0:22 That laugh
damn this song sounds good even with only just the bass and drums. its amazing how many layers of real music somehow fit together. its nice to be able to hear each of the parts separately
i havent seen this vid in a long time but whenever i thought of paul id think of this so its kind of a good feeling to watch again
I'm a bassist and I'm 12, Paul gray is one of my favorite bass players and Slipknot is the fucking shit

I didn't know that bass line is very different from guitars.
mkt oh yeah if you listen to it it’s wayyyy different most of the time
Im memory the Paul Gray 😭
Super tight bassist and an integral songwriter. RIP Paul and thanks for your music
So satisfying to watch, i wish he could've done more of this when he's still with us.
Rest in peace sir. What a bass player he was amazing good to hear.Love from India, Kolkata.
Pure metal gold and good vibrations in musicians

I love the bass for Paul Gray and the Drum, very well played
Did any one else find them singing the lyrics 😂
