How I keep Birds & Squirrels away from my plants! #shorts
Anywhere you can sit a pot you can grow a plant - Jak na to + styl
Been using cayenne pepper for years in my garden is cheap and it works . along with Planting onions Marigold is a good one too !
Yes, I mix cayenne pepper with coffee grounds and cinnamon. I put them in the small plastic condiment containers. I put holes on the sides, and one on the bottom of the covered containers and stick them on skewers and place them throughout my garden, which is small. I prepare about 12-13 containers… Works great! ❤
How does this work if the cayenne is in containers? I may consider using this method. Thanks
@@mrpoole404 she said she puts holes in it so the scent comes out but she doesn't waste the product in the rain
As always, awesome advice! ❤
Marigolds and citrus oil work well too. I plant marigolds around my house as a mosquito deterrent, and I plant a row in my garden to keep away cabbage worms.
Citrus repels mosquitoes, aphids, mites, flies, & fleas!
Ah, and mint will deter mice from entering your home in the fall.
Awesome! Thanks
@@TheScaredyCatGardener you’re very welcome, sweet lady! ♥️
Citrus also deters cats.
Ugh! Those little chipmunks taking tiny bites out of my tomatoes and strawberries! Just eat a whole one instead of a bite out of several lol. 🐿️
A lot of times they want the liquid in it. Sometimes putting out a water source, like a bird bath, helps.
Lol, lol...good luck with the chipmunk...those critters are hard to get rid of.😊
She's right again! Stank companion plants work! Plus garlic and tomatoes go so well together anyway! They are persistent buggers that's for sure. It's not a guarantee but it does help! I even have little rubber monsters and snakes near the containers haha it works. Even captured on my security cam a rabbit noticing a rubber snake while poking around. He looked up, saw it and then ran outta there like a bat outta hell!😅
Ms. Pam ☺️
How do you use the cayenne pepper on your plants?? I’ve heard of some making an actual spray with it. Just wondering how you do it 😍
I use repel-all on my flowers 🌸
I love my squirrels 🐿️ They’re so darn smart! But I too love my food garden! I’m so glad I found your gardening channel! I follow your cooking channel even tho I’m plant based 🤪 I love all your tips and tricks.
You’re pure sunshine and I love your inspirational posts! Keep spreading the love of God. You radiate it!!
Blessings 😇
Just FYI cayenne doesn’t work with birds, which is why a lot of bird suet comes in hot pepper flavor (to keep the squirrels away).
@@samanthawhang7498it doesn't seem to work with squirrels for me either. I will try again this year.
Thank you so much for sharing Ms.Pam God Bless you
I have squirrels digging in my buckets right now. I'm getting some cayenne tomorrow. I was told that peppermint oil around the top of the pots would repel them and some bugs. I did that after we got a heavy rain today. I hope it works. I have my first tomato that I found this morning while looking for those horn worms. I'm so excited. Lol I haven't had a chance to grow anything for years and I'm so grateful to be able to do it this year.
As soon as that tomato and any tomato has any color. The least amount of color coming in pull it!! It will continue to ripen in your counter or in a paper bag. The reason critters and insect don’t bother fruits when they are green is because they can’t smell them.
I got my cayenne now and sprinkled around my babies so hopefully it will detour them. Thanks again. I have 4 tomatoes today Woop Woop. They are so tiny but will grow lol
Man why didn't I search this sooner?? I lost most of my tomato, squash even some flowers 😭😭
Oh noooo
I read recently the trick is to pick them green, just when they’re turning a lil red. Maybe you told me, Pam! 😂
I wish I lived next door to Pam
I use Rubber snakes!! They won’t go near your plants when they see them!!! Has worked every time for me!!
Great tip!
It also keeps rodents away from your house, garage ect… This is the only thing that worked. It would probably scare burglars away as well 😆
What is rubber snake? @TheScaredyCatGardener
Yes 🌶️ pepper is our friend so we do not have to share too much with nature 🥰👍🏽 thanks so much Pam
Thank you I also have rabbits.
This is so timely, thanks everybody, new to container vegetable gardening.😅😊
Thank you! This is my first year growing cherry tomatoes! Excited! But never thought of birds and squirrels 🐿️🤦
I don’t have problems from the birds or squirrels with my cherry tomatoes. Just the big ones 🤷🏽♀️ lol haven’t figured that one out yet
Thanks Ms. Pam. ❤

Aaawwww thank you so much and WELCOME!!!🤗
I live in 8A as well and like that I get great tips from you. Thanks. I consider the part of 8A in which I grow things and sow based on that.
Thanks for sharing!
Yep..I spray peppermint oil with water around my buckets, onions in juse about everything except beans!
I made a Cayenne Pepper, Paprika + Hot Jalapeño concoction on stovetop to use for my variegated pink lemon tree as spray that was so effective + strong that I had to use sunglasses + a mask to make/use😁❤👌🏽
Great idea!
My parents used to string up tin pot pie pans to scare away critters from the garden.
Hmmmm... But for some reason, squirrels don't seem to be bothered by eucalyptus, in fact they occasionally eat the nuts, flowers, stems, and leaves. Yes, EVEN THE LEAVES! They are one of the few animals that can eat eucalyptus leaves, besides koalas. The reason why is because the leaves of eucalyptus are very similar in composition to Quercus (oak) leaves (which squirrels also eat) despite the fact that these plants are not closely related. Oak tree leaves even produce the substance, 'Eucalyptol' which is also found in, you guessed it! Gum trees! So, if anyone is planning on using eucalyptus oil to repel squirrels, it *definitely* won't work! (because squirrels actually like eucalyptus)
Thanks for sharing
I USE THIS FOR RACOONS! IT WORKS! beware of the spray version. It’s smells like garlic and burning tires. I live in Cleveland so the smell kinda blends in though. 🤣.
Lol
My critters are raccoons and possums. They are NOT fazed by the Repel All OR the Cayenne pepper. In fact I have to put fencing around any new things I plant for a year or two until the plant is well established. I grew purslane last year, all season long and they did not bother it until the end of the season. I thought all was okay and checked on it after the winter season and they had completely destroyed it. This year it was a nice rose bush. I think they finally killed it after 3 times of digging and replanting. I bought and fenced a new one in a completely new place. So far so good. Both of my very small gardens have 5 foot high fencing. The wire holes are smaller than chicken wire. The possums still get in and eat the tomatoes. Never ending battles where I live. Very rural country.
Oh my goodness! Have you tried one of those ultrasonic devices? People everywhere seem to swear by them.
@@TheScaredyCatGardener no I have not. I am not for sure what it is even. Don't know what you are talking about. But my husband did finally get a live trap. Problem with that is, they populate pretty quick.
I use extreme hot pepper dust. Something derooted my plant. So I fixed the problem 😁
lol good job!!!
@@TheScaredyCatGardener Thank you Pam
I like your pest control methods 👩🏿🌾!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing ❤
Lol tried that repel. The squirrels have had nest for yrs here and they are brave… not working in a once county setting that’s now becoming city as they’ve expanded all around us! But that doesn’t work here. I bought some lemon balm ,sweet basil , peppermint. They are staying off my porch away from my tomato plant this yr finally. One out of 3 is working I reckon.
I live in the woods in West Virginia and the deer eat the food even with cayenne 😂 poor things. They been gettin brave eatin the spicy foods 😂🔥
Dear supposedly don't like human urine. I heard the older the urine the worse for them
@@janethompson2305 it’s a myth. I pee in the yard all the time haha woods life

@@joebaby1975 😂 it’s honest, I’ll give it that 😂
Yes Yeasssssss THANK YOU!!
I grow Cheyenne and Habanero so I can have plenty the next year to keep pest out of berries. Repels armadillos, racoons, rabbits too. Hopefully deer as well. The have stayed away from tender seedlings this year.
What is also fun This year some of the hot seeds thrown down to deter have propagated. 😁
Niceeee!
Thanks sis ❤️🙏🏼
Thx Pam!! 🩷🌹🩷
Just what I needed! Thank you so much! ❤❤
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤❤ I am so grateful for you
you have such a beautiful garden! also great tips, i am liking the video and writing this down!
Thank you mam for the tips that’s my number one problem god bless
Thank you!!!!♥️
You are so welcome!
Excellent tips!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾🪶🪶🪶
Actually I watched a video that did a more scientific study comparing repel all, cayenne, urine, rags soaked in ammonia, and a couple others. The repel all was totally ineffective, squirrels were not phased as I remember
Yes, I've been using cayenne for years as well, it does work well.
I am using two tablespoons of Alaska liquid fish emulsion for my pumpkins every week or so. By adding Miracle Grow Garden Soil, I till the ground and always direct sow the seeds into the soil afterwards every year in the same spot. They do just fine and grow a good harvest in the fall here in the lower Ohio Valley. When the pumpkins start turning orange on the vine really good, the squirrels see them. Every year the squirrels will do a test run to see what they are. They'll put little scratch marks on the pumpkins first. Then a few days to about a week goes by and early the next morning, I'll see that they have taken a large bite out of a pumpkin or two. I've tried putting a thick layer of bird netting over each pumpkin, cayenne pepper, petroleum jelly. Nothing seems to work! Are there any other helpful tips you can think of that could help me keep them away? Thank you!
Repell All. Put it around the pumpkin but not directly on the pumpkin. They HATE the smell and stay away. Since I’ve been using it I rarely even see them in my yard.
I spent all mothers day digging and planting seedlings that needed transplanting just to wake up to eaten babies 😭😭😭😭
I know the pain!!!
Awesome! Great question ❤
Thank you!!
Awesome answer
Thanks!
Great ideas!!! 👍
Do you sprinkle the cayenne pepper in the pots?
Yes!
Great information 😊
I had a woodpecker pecking at one of my trees, I made a paste and a spray of cayenne pepper and the peckers left.
Peppermint Is another good idea
I had one once run off with a habanero pepper. He didn't run far and dropped it 😂🤣👍🤟✌️
😂🤣
I love squirrels :(
Nothing against squirrels I just want my own food lol
Thanks girl,I’m a scary cat,big time
😂 you’re welcome!
Hi my cherry tomatoes I have three on top of my plant but some of the leaves on the bottom is yellow can I cut them all off and replant in a bigger container
Haha tell that to my squirrel who digs up my mint plant 😅 will try cayenne pepper, thanks
Oh no really sorry
I’m about to season my whole back year 😂😂😂 all I’m trying to grow is potato’s and the squirrels keep digging them up 😂😂😂
My goats eat my plants and the donkey also!! Makes me crazy. I fence them off but they still get out they won’t eat the spearmint and my daughter planted it now is every where!!
Oh wow!
Does “Repell All” poison the ground?
Not to my knowledge, but its not organic so I don't put it on any plants I'm growing. Thanks
Dried blood, egg & garlic
Pam, I need help with a rabbit that is eating my cabbage and other winter greens. I’ve used the deer and rabbit liquid fence and the repel all granules, but Cottontail is still eating. Should I get a trap or actual fence off my garden!
Please help I bent my cherry tomatoes plant and it has more cluster growing what do I do can I still keep it and let it grow
The squirrels dig up cayenne, mint and onion plants. No success with anything so far
It does not work. I tried it last gardening season. Squirrels do whatever they want.😭
Well, you cannot say it does not work. You CAN say it does not work for YOU! As I said in my video this is what I do and it works for me and it has worked for the last five years. I was answering a question. The person asked me did I have a problem and what did I do. So I answered them with what I do. Therefore, to say a blanket “It does not work” if not a fair statement. Thank you
how much Cayenne do you sprinkle on each plant or perimeter?
Great! ❤💛🕊️✝️🙏🤲🥰👋
Does this work on rats to I saw one for the first time in my garden and it scared me half to death
I haven’t had any but I’d give it a try. Peppermint is good for them. I always grow peppermint. You can get a few pots and sit them here and there and grow peppermint. It’s fierce and will take over anywhere it’s planted. That’s why I said pots
Thank you. I will give it a try.
I also use cinnamon powder
How do you stop the little black bugs from attacking mint leaves? Would cayenne pepper on the soil work?
Oh let me check on that! I haven’t had any problems with mint!
Aphids. Good luck.
I must have barbaric squirrels, they straight dug right through the cayenne and simply moved the garlic & onions to replace the plant with their nuts. 😡
Birds can't smell cayenne pepper. It keeps squirrels out of birdseed feeders, though!
What is repel all?
It keeps critters away
✨💗
Great sharing!!!
OH YES ❤️🔥🙏🙏🙏 AMEN
Does this work for rabbits?
I use RePell All and sprinkle it around the perimeter.only not on the plants. Thanks
BALONY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NONE OF THIS WORKS
Speak for yourself! You can’t tell me what does and does not work in MY garden.
Thank you!!!!♥️
You are so welcome!
