  • Goodness me. Ducati's released the Streetfighter V2 and would you know it, I prefer it to the Streetfighter V4. Join me on bumpy and lumpy British B roads for a thorough riding review of this £15,000 mini-supernaked. No, it's not a full-on supernaked. But it is expensive. So what do we make of it? Find out with your eyes!

    Great review as always Tim. I've had mine for just over two weeks now, and I love it! The only slight issue is the heat through the seat in traffic, apart from that it's a joy to ride. I'm 6'2" and like you find the bike comfortable even at my height. I've ordered a comfort seat as the stock seat isn't the best, and some carbon bits, looking forward to them hopefully arriving soon.

    I own a 2020 RSV4 Factory but I started thinking recently about maybe swapping it for something that is similar in nature but is generally more streetable. I am thinking about the Supersport 950S but also this. We'll see how this is going to go. 😄

    Nice review Tim! How does it compare with your old hyper? Is the hyper more fun and playful at the lower speed stuff? More torque down low (for wheelie shenanigans) but then the streetfighter just flies past kind of thing?

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  Před 2 lety +1

      Exactly that. The Testastretta engine in the Hyper has more traditional v-twin punch low down, the superquadro feels far revvier and would disappear above 60 or so…

      I test drove the Streetfighter V4 on Friday last week and the V2 today (wednesday). I was returning the V4 bit scared and bit disappointed. Do not take me wrong, the bike was absolute rocket, it pushed like buldozer but all the fun was happening at around 100 km/h and more, where you are coasting on the border of serious law braking (at least here in Switzerland). On the contrary to V4, when I was returning the Streetfighter V2 to the dealer today after the test ride I was just smiling and feeling happy. It pulls and handles well and all the fun is feelable at legal speed (or let us say in normal and reasonable level slightly abve them). Brakes were strong enough to do stoppie. Manner in the city traffic more polished than V4, possible to ride in in 3rd gear on 50 km/h with the advantage that the noise level drops substantially (no worries, would you like to get more noise - downshift to second). The overal noise was (at least for me) nicer, more bubbly, drummy, deeper than V4. V4 sounds good at iddle and low revs due to its twin pulse firining and due to the fact, that it shuts off the ignition of rear cylinders on iddle revs. ...btw, it was really hot on V4, the V2 is emitting much less heat towards your crotch. And yes, it is a nice wee bike. But it is not so small at all. I am 198 cm tall and 128 kg heavy. I fit in that bike with no problem and enjoy riding it - I do not feel any restriction. I do not for example fit on Aprilia Tuono V4 due to its tank shape. My girlfreind is 162 cm and seh can also sit on it, but she is tiptoeing (there is possibility to buy 2cm flatter seat from Ducati). My today´s test ride was decisive - I am placing order on V2 instead of V4. Best way to tell for yourself is to go to dealership and ask for test ride. But believe me, that 150 BHP are noticeable and moreover, you feel them between 2nd and 4th gear anywhere between 80 -110 km/h.

    Great vid Tim and I think the first U.K full test, here on CZcams of the V2 Streetfighter. Just a thought here, you can buy a brand new 2022 Aprilia Tuono V4 for similar or slightly cheaper money. Yes it's not the factory model but you still get the same motor, power, chassis and looks. It has higher bars and a taller screen and a quite accommodating pillion seat. There's no electronic suspension but the sachs suspension is plush and works really well. Seriously looking at these 2 bikes as I am in the market for a naked bike. Where I live [Normandie, France] there are more Aprilia dealers than Ducati and they are closer. That V4 is just amazing though, so for the money I think I am going to go for the Tuono. Cheers and ride safe.

    Yeah, bikes like the Tuono and S1000R are barely more expensive or even cheaper, but really I don't see a practical reason to choose these bikes over the Streetfighter V2. I think this Ducati is the prettiest naked bike right now by a pretty good margin, and it's got well enough power to have fun, at least for me. When you get into the realm of 130-140+ hp on the street, I just don't see the point in comparing spec sheets as the main deciding factor.

      I'm a little torn between the s1000r and speed triple, both of which are available for $3k off MSRP near me (leftover new models). That would put either firmly below the V2. SFV2 is a lot firmer and has a sportier riding position, but the handling is leaps on from the Monster. V2SF sells for AU&22600 ride away, which is $3000 or $5000 less than a mid spec s1000r and a bit more of a jump to the Speed RS and non-Factory Tuono. It is priced about $5k more than the less well specified GSXS1000 and about $4k more than a CB1000R. Specification levels differ, and what price for cafe swagger? All are superb bikes. I'd say it is a super naked, if you compare it to the Honda, Suzuki, BMW and Yamaha models around 150-165hp mark. Then you could say the hyper nakeds are the 175hp+ models from Aprilia, Triumph, KTM, Kawasaki and Ducati. Although when motorcycle.com dyno'd all the nakeds, it wasn't quite as clear as they weren't all making what they should be making :)

    • @lordgibbness
      @lordgibbness Před 2 lety

      Otherwise you could say the super nakeds start at around 160-165hp, with the S1000R and MT10 and include the Triumph, KTM and Aprilia, at around 175-180hp.
      Then the hyper nakeds are above that at 200hp+ being the Kawasaki, Ducati and MV.
      Which I guess puts the 150hp bikes as sports nakeds (V2, CB1000r, gsxs1000) instead, sitting above the middleweights (with around 110-130hp).

On paper ktm has higher spec brakes, less weight, and less power, not sure how the suspension/chassis compares, I'm guessing streetfighter feels more like a sport bike while duke has more naked/supermoto hooligan feel to it.
    Sfv2 seems like an interesting idea with great looks, probably wins over ktm when it comes to the engine character (790 was very agricultural, haven't tried the 890 yet, super Quadro sounds more exciting; haven't tried the newer testastrettas, 821 in my hyper was rather awful), but perhaps not the legally usable powerband considering that the exciting top end is mostly in illegal speeds, what is the top speed in each gear there (got some ideas from watching track videos and calculating by speed/tach, but speedos are usually rather optimistic)? Slotting somewhere in-between middle weights and super/hypernakeds while being more expensive than a base tuono v4 (which has cruise control and a fuel gauge) makes it the opposite of a value proposition. S1000r and mt-10 sp seem to be the closest competitors, while gsxs1000 (also available in the GT form) is a value alternative.

      I love the 890 Duke R. The chassis is out of this world, and gives even more confidence than the SFV2. The 890's engine is exciting but not as ridiculously fast as the SFV2, and the 890 feels quite a lot cheaper (switchgear, bodywork, dashboard). But… it is a lot cheaper! About £5k cheaper. Weirdly the 890 Duke R's chassis feels like a sportsbike in corners, but the riding position is a bit less sporty when you're cruising.

      @@timrodierides so you say I should save my money and go get the 890 now instead of waiting for sfv2? Was debating between 890 and 690 supermoto last year, got a 690 after test riding husky 701 sm and 790.

      I had the 790 agree its agri & suspension can't cope at a point, my 890R was brilliant until I bought the base model Tuono V4 OMG I'm changing the gearing & front screen but its Brilliant. I was gunna wait for the SFV2 but I'm pleased I got the Tuono when I did as I can ride 500 km to get to the twists in comfort & still have a blast. vids of all three bikes on my channel. btw the 890R can be flighty you'll find out why if you see my last 890R video 😞

      @@DukeOfTwist base tuono v4 is on my list as an all arounder since it's the sportiest if tourers and seems to make the most sense on paper. Gsxs1000gt would be a poor man's version of it, mt-10 could work as well I guess. I have 690 supermoto for around town and lower speed canyon fun, but it's so no good for higher speeds and touring.
