    Great video and extremely useful!
And something has just occurred to me; if you’re doing a larger renovation or even a new build, you could have the outside access to the corner in the next door room, or hallway, depending on the flow/layout of your house. It needn’t even be the corner of a peninsular, but another potentially awkward corner, you could access that space from the other side of the wall.

I’m redoing my old kitchen and we’ll be having the peninsula again. Love the idea of the corner accessible from outside. Don’t have this in our current kitchen. Will make a note to add it into the new design. All your videos are very helpful love them all thanks⭐️

After much attempts fitting an island into a 4m x 4m kitchen design and coming up with an inadequate sliver I have decided on the peninsula to l give the satisfaction of a good wide work space and make a feature of the granite slab.

I am working on this now and just yesterday, I move our bistro table (it's a high cafe' table size), and I just moved it to the corner though I didn't know it was called a peninsula. I actually didn't know what peninsula was. We always call that a bar in our house but now it's our breakfast nook and it's soooooooo nice. The open space now on the main floor maybe get a moving bench with wheels and room for seating. So sorta an island but moveable. Not sure yet as right now I'm enjoying the wide open space. Perfect for dancing and putting away dishes. Have a great weekend. Cheers, Ivy.

Also a peninsular, rather than an island can, in some configurations, helpfully prevent people walking through and past your work flow whilst you’re cooking. There’s nothing more irritating, and sometimes frightening, than a child wandering in when you have a hot pan of roast potatoes in your hands!

I'm helping my parents design their kitchen remodel and we will be opting for a small peninsula to break up the space between the kitchen and dining room. This spot is usually used for note taking and storing take out menus, rolodex, etc. It's the only spot really where my mother and father do not want to repurpose. They also want to be able to sit there and drink their coffee and whatnot.

hi, thanks for the video been really helpful as we are planning a complete renovation of our eat in kitchen. Currently, we have a 6 person table and a peninsula. Thinking of making an island to seat 4 plue 2 on side plus adding a row of half lower cabinets where table was. So is getting rid of the table a bad move? should i try a smaller table? We also have a separate dinning room. thank you so much appreciate any thoughts.

I went for a peninsula because I wanted a roomy kitchen and an island would have left me with 80 or 90 cm walkways on two sides. Added a waterfall edge for the wow factor and a corner cabinet accessible from the seating side so as to not have it inside the kitchen! It will devide the space quite well I think as we knocked down a wall and it is situated just under the support beam. Installation begins on Monday! 😊
PS : thanks for all the videos and the great advice, you helped a lot during our renovation 😄

We had an island when I was a child. Breakfasts were invariably eaten there, and much of the meal prep done there too.
We just called it a kitchen table!
But joking aside, when re-modelling a kitchen, sometimes a big mistake could be avoided spending a few pounds at a general sale (auction) or a secondhand furniture store to buy an old table and add (for example) a little cardboard to see how it fits - and then try living with it for a few days. You can keep trimming the cardboard down to what you can work with, and see if what is left is worth it. Although you may be disappointed, you could avoid a very expensive mistake, along with the resulting 'blame wars’!
I do however love a peninsula unit with a breakfast bar as a room divider - it is also very sociable if you have a non-assisting guest or guests - just make sure the surface is wine spill proof!
Marking something on the floor, and walking around it is not the same as banging your hips on it, or trying to squeeze past whoever else is in there (hopefully helping).
If only we could afford someone like you to design the 'perfect' kitchen and build it to the appropriate dimensions, rather than having to make the best of the room we have!

Good point though about getting something physically in your space to try out whether an island is the right fit or not!

We have been deliberating between the two as either would fit - decided on an island since the peninsula would located too far away from the work triangle to provide useful food prep space 🙂

What would you recommand in a long and narrow open kitchen living, when the kitchen is on the narrow side? If I put a kitchen island or peninsula on the front ( like a "=" shape), it will make the room feel even shorter, but if I put it on the wall (to make a "L" shape), it will make the room aven more narrow. What a headache ...

Haha I kitchen island is not supposed to be a dining table. Wtf. Its an extra prep area mostly. Kitchen island is better together with a dining table. I love having them as its very useful during occasions. Island makes less traffic as all sides are open. For asians and hispanics where family are almost size of a village if not more, it does come handy.
Yes, if you can have one I ll have an island dining/island + a bar counter if space is an issue.
