In this video I take the Arbor Westmark Rocker and Westmark Camber and put them head to head. I believe these are two of the most ideal snowboards to compare for a rocker vs camber test because they are true rocker and true camber, not hybrid whatsoever, and they otherwise share all of the same technologies. This is perfect because the only significant difference between them is the camber profile. I found the Westmark Rocker to have a looser, more forgiving feel to it and was also more fun for doing butters and presses. The Westmark Camber has a more powerful and precise feeling, offering more pop, response and stability and just an overall more energetic feel. At the end of the day I thought both of the boards were really fun, I hope that this video helps you to decide between getting a rocker or camber snowboard. Let us know if you prefer rocker or camber in the comments! Thanks for watching.

@@richymdrwhen I started learning snowboarding I started on a cheap second hand old board. The first three days were all about falling and getting up, but after that I was able to get down okay. Used that board for a while, but was catching edge a lot. I have learned and rode camber styles board for the first 5 years of my snowboarding experience. After snapping my Salamon assassin pro 155 2017, all-out camber a few weeks back I found a replacement for cheap. I am now riding a 156 gnu carbon credit btx rocker snowboard. I have only had the chance to ride this board once so far. However, after my first impression I can say that I love the Rocker style snowboard and If you love snowboarding, you should have both just to switch between them. Nonetheless, after my first day out with the rocker, I was highly impressed. I was surprised by the pop that the board produced. I was able to fly over the bamboo rods just beside the side hits with ease. The board wants to turn on a dime. It may not be as stable as a camber board but it contributes to that loose truck feel that a lot of skaters and boarders thrive for. The shape of the board helps to take the stress off of the legs when riding in deep or heavy snow. You feel less stuck down and the board always wants to pop and turn. Butters are easy to initiate but harder to lock-in. It is easier to spin into and out of butters but harder to hold high and strong.

I started off with a flat board, then went to a camber. Being a noob at the time I didn't have the muscles or skills to learn to press well on the camber. Then went for a rocker, loved it, learned to press properly. After that went back to camber boards, by that time I had mastered snowboarding well enough to really enjoy a camber board. So I would recommend people to start of on a rocker and when you get good on that move to camber.

I also went from a Burton-Camber to a C2-Libtech Rocker Board and everything is going easier and smother for me. I had all my life trouble in the Ski-Lift until the first ride with the Rocker-Board, when the edge simply grips in the flat and give you a control that you never known before. Carving feels much more effortless bc the transitions from heel to toe is easier to perform.

    • @jeremystig98
      @jeremystig98 Před 5 lety +3

I'd say Rocker gives beginners more confidence in the beginning. It's easier to learn the basics of turning. But once you got the basics (which should take like 3 days, so rent a rocker) i highly advice to switch to a beginner camber board. Unless you wanna do skipped turns all your life than stay with rocker. But honestly i know a couple friends that never tried camber and all the do is slide down the mountain with skidded turns. If you wanna carve instead get a camber.

Great video. Very helpful. Thank you. Your nose grind on the tube with the rocker was dynamite. One can even tell by your reaction that you could feel that you nailed it. I have ridden Burton camber since I started riding back in 2000. I didn’t know there was anything but full camber until recently. I always wondered how some riders looked so much more fluid, smoother and surfier out there. I understand now that Rocker and camber have such different strengths. Showcasing the boards on the same run was great and taking it even further with the side by side split screen was brilliant. I was able to see what each board shape brings to the table. So drastically different a style despite ones ability level. The rocker seems ideal for fun, laid back, surfy riding. The Camber for more control and more speed. Now I know why some snowboarders have a quiver of boards depending on the type of terrain/riding you want to do. I noticed companies are experimenting with different hybrid combination rocker camber boards as of late. Thanks to this video, and a few more on youtube, I have decided having two different boards would be ideal for me. Snow conditions, the hill I am at, how I want to ride at that moment, who I am riding with will determine which board I grab. First board in the quiver will be a burton hometown hero for free riding. It has mostly camber with rocker in the nose. Engineered for free riding. Ideal for the technical terrain, tighter turns, when I want speed, in the trees, powder, blues and blacks, when I want to go edge to edge and carve aggressively, if I want to ride hard. Second board a burton custom flying v. It’s a Rocker/camber hybrid which is mostly rocker. This will be for greens and blues, working on tricks, if I am tired, if my bum knee is acting up, if I am seeking a laid back surfy ride. Camber in the morning, rocker in the afternoon, hot tub at night.

Fantastic. Usually you can't get access to equal boards to get camper vs rocker comparison. Other that I have recognized and figured out that riding with camber vs rocker is that I need to change little bit my riding style. In turns riders weight point is usually in back or front in rocker but camber board it's mostly on the center. I usually has been recommending to get camber or flat if casual piste rider and if offside or piste jibbing is your thing then the rocker. And camber if fast piste rider

I've ridden both rocker and camber boards and I actually enjoy rocker styles more. I know everyone is all about carving but drifting is so effortless on a rocker board and for whatever reason it's so satisfying. You can still carve pretty well. And I disagree with you about camber being better for technical terrain. Rocker boards are much more forgiving on tight bends and that ability to drift more easily really gives you an advantage if you're in a tight spot and need to quickly pivot out of it, camber boards will make you catch an edge in those scenarios

Been riding rocker since I was 11 and now I see why I can’t go to the fullest of send. The edges for rocker boards are only good until you start going so fast lol then it gets sketchy. I could never keep up with guys on the mountain bombing the hill because their camber board gave them so much edge control. Time to get some camber for dinner

When he’s talking about more or less stability is he referring to the stability on rails or on hills

I love my Westmark rocker!! For a rocker, the stability is on point! Great confidence building board! Any changes for the 18/19?

Great video hands down 👌 imo if wanna explore different ride styles and own only 1 board = rocker hybrid, other than that camber, rocker….just get them all 😈

As a complete amateur (never boarded) I can see the difference. It seems like someone who wants to start would be better off on a camber especially me being a big guy. That rocker looked loosey goosey

I’ve been riding 15 years so obviously learned on camber but I’ve been rocker for as long as I can remember now. Switching back to camber (signal park) this season for better edge hold. I’m actually worried about edge catch

Or just get one of the stiffer bataleon boards instead (Thunder, Thunderbolt, goliath+, carver). Catchfree and playful but also powerful at higher speeds

When learning I found the limitations of rocker being speed and ice. You aren't carving well when you start (if at all) and rocker at speed trying to just get across a flat or whatever would wash out easily. And on ice - especially early morning gridled from grooming as it almost always is here it was NOT enjoyable.
Switching to a Burton Custom with full camber and knowing a bit more about carving and edge hold was night and day for me. Now I have 11 boards, and the only full rocket is that original GNU.
I'll give that tech another chance this season and take the GNU out and see how it helps progress my butters. But I'm thinking the huck knife with get more time on the mountain. Just because I want to trust my boards edge hold on sheet, and there is a LOT of sheet where I ride.

I've been riding a rocker for 5 years and in the northeast it's icy as hell most times I've gone. I definitely had to take more time to slow down and let the board do the work instead of leaning back as hard as I could like on a camber. Totally give the rocker a shot since that smoother feel while riding is worth the setbacks for me, but it's all about personal preference and riding style.

WolfFrags it’s generally more forgiving. I learned on rocker then switched to camber the next year, both felt great and you can’t really go wrong with either.

i wish i knew about this before starting snowboarding lmao. I've always ridden camber cause I didn't know there was a difference. I used to catch edges and eat shit all the time. At this stage I'm pretty decent I'd say at least high intermediate/ beginning advanced and I guess I'll still to camber. Here in the northeast we dont get much Pow and if we do I just move my bindings back a bit. I need the stability with ice and packed snow
