Life with scoliosis is something Shelby Welling knows personally. At 13, she was diagnosed with this curvature of the spine that affects 2 to 3% of people. The Jefferson City teenager wore a brace for 23 hours a day, even while playing golf and competing in pageants.
When Welling’s curve progressed to nearly 45 degrees, it was time to consider another treatment option - a minimally invasive procedure called vertebral body tethering, or VBT.
