- Australian MG4 Essence spec EVs finally have an EV Route charging planner enabled in the latest software update :) I'll show you the new features, subscribe to see how well it works on a long road trip I'm taking in a few weeks
I can't wait for your comprihensive review of the new MG EV route planner.
That is great news.
Excellent news for MG drivers. Does it also give battery percentage on arrival? The Polestar Google maps route planning is fantastic and something I would not like to do without anymore.
I haven't tried it for real yet on a long trip. Maybe in a week or so
It appears that MG dealers will only install this update if you book it in for a regular service. I have booked my mg4 for warranty work (warped undertray) and wanted this update done at the same time. The dealership indicated that this update could only be performed at a regular service, which in my case is 12 months away. Another example of poor after sales service by mg dealers. I will ring Sydney City MG to see if they will do it.
Good luck🤞🏽
Whats the version of the software?
R??
There are many software modules and only some result in noticeable changes to the displayed car version numbers
i dont know how the software update really works. In finland i have R46 and if i ask to update R59 they dont update. They update different modules only if you have issues but not infotainment software.
Unfortunately the MG dealer experience for software updates is not great in any country :( also there are many software modules and only some result in noticeable changes to the displayed car version numbers
Great news. I bought my MG4 77kwh Essence in May. Would I need to book in a service with the MG dealership to have this upgrade applied?(obviously I’m a long way off my scheduled service).
Wait til the update is more broadly available. I think Sydney City MG gets the updates first as they're a factory owned dealer
@@NeeravBhatt Thanks. I’m in Melbourne, I’m guessing the best place would be the Melbourne City or Dandenong dealerships? The one I bought the car from was likely a franchisee.
@@lbd-po7cl Sydney City MG is the only factory owned MG dealer. All other dealers are franchised
@@NeeravBhatt Thanks. Good to know.
I got mine done today at Brighton MG during my 1 month checkup. @@lbd-po7cl
Since this is a relatively simple Android change (not the underlying hardware systems), did they push it out OTA or is a dealer visit?
No Australian MG4 customer owned car is OTA enabled yet (If ever)
When I bought my MG4 77 end of June it was like that from the dealer Sydney City MG. I'm guessing they test the latest software updates first because that dealership is owned by HQ. It's not a licenced franchise like all the other Aussie MG dealerships are
Do you know if it has maps for NT and WA?
And if the Tesla ones shown work with the MG4 in those territories/states
I guess it should have maps for all of Australia. Will make a note tomorrow to set pretend destination of Darwin and Perth to see if EV charger planning works all the way
It would let me plan Sydney to Brisbane and Sydney to Adelaide. But wouldn't let me plan an EV charging route from Sydney to Darwin or Sydney to Perth. Possibly because the car uses Vodafone and there wouldn't be much Vodafone signal in NT and WA
@@NeeravBhatt I’m in Darwin and get a signal there, but not so much when outside Darwin itself.
I was in Perth before, and it was the same when going rural.
How do the maps themselves get updated though, because the EV locations will be out of date almost as soon as you drove it out of the dealership.
I've asked if the EV charger info is updated regularly OTA or just when maps are updated when you do a dealer service
@@NeeravBhatt If not an OTA then at least a user download.
@@warpye in EU we are updating maps with USB, takes 30mins. Instructions in google.
Neat but how did you get the firmware update?
