- Today I can present to You the full Drive & Sound test with the all-new 2016 / 2017 Mercedes-Benz E 220d (W213 E-Class) powered by that newly developed OM 654 2.0 diesel engine delivering 194 hp & 400 Nm of torque through a 9G-Tronic transmission (weight: 1.680 kg). As we are in Portugal to test this stunning piece of technology we of course were not able to test higher speed accelerations but will make sure to let those follow once we have the car on the Autobahn again. First impression are that especially the low noise level of this diesel makes it a proper engine for such a luxurious car, even from the outside it is never annoying. On the other hand the power-delivery is really smooth, especially in the higher rpms it behave more like a petrol engine. Sehr schön gemacht, wie alle Ihre Tests. Keine Selbstdarstellung, keine überflüssigen Kommentare - nur Bilder und Sound sprechen lassen..habs mal abonniert. Was die Sound Tests angeht: ich fände gut, zusätzlich zu den Beschleunigungstests auch Soundchecks in realistischeren Situationen zu zeigen - denn mit voller Power beschleunigen macht man doch eher selten. Mich hätte interessiert: wie klingt das Fahrzeug, wenn ich einsteige und moderat los fahre..wenn ich an der Ampel stehe und mit mittlerer Geschwindigkeit auf 50-60 km/h beschleunige.? So weit ich hören konnte, klang er von aussen doch noch überraschend nach Diesel . von innen schien er leiser zu sein. Bin mal auf mein eigenes erstes Fahrerlebnis gespannt.

Enjoying this gen of E-Class quite a bit. Interested in seeing what's in store for the upcoming E63. I may just stay with 4-door's if it persuades me enough.

While the 3.0tt V6 is powerful, for the daily highway use a 2.0lt diesel would be welcome. .. In the N. America the E-Class Kombi is offered only fitted with the 3.0tt V6 w/9sp. .. Can't wait.

+Ermal Morina Well, it's pretty clear that this is the new benchmark of its class right now. The "old" A6 and BMW 5-series cannot compete once it comes to technology and saftey but also from a ride comfort, noise level and cabin atmosphere perspective I would consider this being next-gen. I mean we don't have to debate about the fact that this is a very expensive car and that you could also get a well equipped BMW or Audi but overall the new E-Class feels very solid in every detail. The materials are very nice, the infotainment continues the good path they started in S-Class and C-Class and ride comfort with Airmatic is unrivaled....my opinion.

So eine Vollausstattung habe ich bei einem E220d noch nie gesehen. Den müssen die für die Sendung extra konfiguriert haben. Der hat ja sogar das High End Audio Burmester Sound System. Das allein kostet fast 6000 Euro...

Lamb Curry Even the "normal" Burmester has a very good sound an is on pair with the Harman Kardon in BMW and BOSE in Audi. The speakers in the mirror edge are , as said, part of the optional Burmester Premium Sound system which is an option for around 4k EUR in the pricelist, at least in Germany.
Well, you can reach 250Km/h on Vasco da Game bridge without getting stopped :)

+No Name Just tried to explain this earlier down below. The authentic transportation about how the car feels and sounds in real-life is the goal of our channel. That of course also applies for Diesel cars and and cars that don't have a very sport sound. For people who want to buy them (like us) its important to hear and see if the cars sounds quiet, annoying or has a pleasant tone to it. If you compare this to a 2014 Mercedes C 220 BlueTec for example you will hear a clear difference.
So, basically, we can finally state that they've managed to solve the excessive level of noise problems?

Bmw 5 derie is equal quality but a different style really. Mercedes is more traditional and soft luxury, bmw is really technical and sporty.

+Badal Chads Many people (including me) are also interested in how a diesel car or a car with a smaller engine sounds in real-life. Of course the sound isn't as thrilling as of the sporty cars but it really matter if the diesel sounds quiet or annoying. I guess that's what this channel mainly is about, transport the real-life feeling also of everyday cars :)
