I've had one for about two years now and have used it in all sorts of conditions in the Pacific Northwest. I've tested it in high winds, heavy rains, and in winter conditions. It's well made and has performed flawlessly with no leakage, condensation, or problems with snow load. I leave the two parts attached as it makes setup easier. I can set it up in under five minutes. I would recommend this tent to anyone needing a lightweight, four season, two person, tent.
@@thegreatecb depends on how much room you want. I only needed a two person tent. The Scorpion 3 is a three person tent, but I'm sure it performs as well as the Scorpion 2. It also becomes a weight issue if you have to carry it, the Scorpion 2 being lighter than the Scorpion 3.
I took mine kayak camping for 4 days. Stormed heavily every day. Tons of rain and wind. Tent took it like a champ. I unfortunately lived in the tent for 3 days. Did all my cooking in the vestibule. The tent never leaked. Only time I came out was to empty my piss bottle or go number 2. I left in the rain on the 4th day. Didn't think I was going to make it back alive in my kayak. But I made it. What an adventure. My back was killing me tho after a few days living in a tent. Bullet proof tent. Im 5'9". Which i think is the tallest you can be to fit in this tent.
Wow that sounds like some trip mate!! Awesome to hear the tent withstood it all. I agree it’s a great tent for the elements but like you say the ergonomics are a bit on the short side which makes sitting up hard unless you’re right up the front. Glad you made it back to civilisation and cheers for checking in and sharing your experience 👍

@@steelmanoutdoors4479 thanks! The data comes from official page of Snugpak. I used in the army the Scorpion 2 and I was okay (I am 1.83 m, that's 6 ft?). Also I used the special forces sleeping bag's system, until -20°C, and it was perfect. From the field, I highly recommend the Snugpak products (I don't receive any payment for the advertisement 🤣)
@@corneliusscipio777 that’s good to know mate. I bought mine specifically for the winter, but due to current lockdown rules I haven’t yet been able to get out in it. Cheers Alex. I am confident it will perform excellently in the winter months. If you can live with the low profile it could be an option. Or perhaps the 3 man if you can’t 🤷🏼♂️
Now then 👍🏼 I’m a fan of the shape. It’s similar to my terratrio in that sense. Would be a bit too small inside for me though. I agree with you on the pegs as mine has the same. They are sturdy but uncomfortable to put in and pull out. Great honest vid man. It’s useful for those looking for a reliable tent 👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers John, I think it will be awesome for some conditions, I reckon it’ll perform excellent in the wind and cold. Let’s hope the things I don’t like can be overlooked for it’s good points. If not, I’ll sell it 🤣
I love my scorpion 2. Went kayak camping once. Rain hit hard. I have already used this tent many times, so it was easy to set up in the rain. I live in Florida. It rained for 3 days straight. I lived out of my tent for 3 days because I couldn't kayak out due to rough waters on the river. Was completely dry for the 3 days. Held up well in high winds. Not once did I feel in danger. It was home. And a secure home for that matter. So I consider this tent to be absolutely amazing in bad weather.
Thanks for sharing your story it’ll help others looking for info. This was actually one of the reasons I bought this tent. It’s awesome in bad weather and made of good quality materials 😊👍
Hi bud, you’ll love the tent, it’s bombproof. I’ve had mine for years and I would rate it as good as my Akto for quality and robustness, I’ve done quite a few winter wild camps in the lakes in mine in horrendous wind and rain and it’s never let me down. All the best. Tony
Hi Tony. Thanks for the info man. It’s good to know the tent can stand up to that kind of a beating. I have high hopes for it. Thanks for watching pal 💪
Great review thanks buddy. Looking for my first 4 season tent. Considered due to other videos but as I'm 6 foot tall I will now consider others as I also want a decent vestibule for cooking in. 👍
Cheers pal. I’m sure you could make it work if you slept at a diagonal but the vestibule might be an issue for you if you want a large space. Cheers for watching and taking the time to comment
Great vid there mate, and a really smart looking tent 👍I was thinking the same just as you said it; get a lean-back chair. It will make all the difference. I use one in my bobcat and bandicoot. Winter will be here soon 😜😊⛄
That’s interesting mate, they look really cool tents but I’m surprised how small it is, like you say you should be all good in it! Thanks for sharing buddy catch up soon Ash
Yeah I was honestly the same. It seems bigger on CZcams. I still think it’ll be fine for a 1 man. But defo couldn’t call it a 2 man! Cheers for watching as always buddy 💪
At 3:32 I never had a tent, but my guess is, that the metal loop goes on the tenpeg and the nylon loop is what you pull to stretch. If you do it the opposite way, then the tenpeg, will cut the nylon loop at some point.

Cheers Steve. Yeah I agree, I think I was a bit negative in this first impressions lol it’s not all bad. I do love the tent and can’t wait to get out in it. Which I intend to do straight after Xmas with my new presents 😉👍
Hey mate. The door only unzips from the bottom so you can control how much of it gets opened which will protect the inner. If packing up in the rain you can completely take down the inner from the inside and leave the outer up to cover you. This is also good to do if you need to cook inside which another subscriber pointed out. You can just unhook the front of the inner and move back to give ample cooking space 👍
My pleasure mate. I’m not trying to sway you either way, ultimately it’s your choice which tent you buy I’m just trying to give you as much info as possible to make it an informed choice ☺️
In some ways, it's similar in design to my Alpkit Tetri 2-person tent. I like the colour of the Scorpion and the fact the inner is black! Really handy. Mine is white. It does seem very low but SnugPak seem to be wanting to market it as a more stealthy tent? In my Tetri, I can sit up in it quite comfortably but I am 5'8. Good first-insight video and I'll be really interested in your further thoughts once you get going with it! Thanks for sharing. ATB - Ben
Yes mate I believe it was made for the British military which probably explains the low profile stealth approach. I think that why the inside is also black, to try and stop light bleeding out and giving away your position. I know it'll stand up to the elements though, so as long as I can get comfortable in it and cook in bad weather I'll be a happy man 😀 thanks for watching yet another vid. Legend 🤘
Hey Danny. Welcome to the channel. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad tent but it definitely has some things I don’t like. I’ve still not actually been able to use it yet so can’t give it a full review. Hope to soon though 👍
At 6ft I think it would be a bit small for me, I have a similar shaped tent that I have in garage left over from my climbing days. Snugpak make great kit im sure it'll perform well.
Big Grizzly Outdoors Cheers G. Yeah I think the 2 man would be too small for you. I wonder how much bigger the 3 man is? I’ve no doubt it’ll keep my dry and warm though 💪
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 scorpion 3 is substantially larger. I'm 5'10" and my son and I use it all the time. We keep all our gear in the tent at our feet (instead if the vestibule). Plenty of room for us.
I am 6”5’. This tent fits me length wise. I use it as a 1 man tent, as I put my equipment in the tent with me and have plenty of room. The tent is very dark inside, and I suggest a dome light. Lastly, the entryway to this tent is not a vestibule. It facilitates entry. That’s about it. Btw, I have the scorpion 3 model.
I have a scorpion 3 tent, great tent but I prefer my litefighter tent over it. It’s quicker to setup and has a vestibule on both sides (so gear on one side and other for entrance). If you get a chance check them out and look into pre-owned or military surplus to save money.
excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Question; Once you set up the tent for the first time, can you leave the inner tent attached to the fly so that it can go up in one shot? (similar to the Hilleberg tents) Thanks. J
Nice review Andy. The front peg point reminds me of the Vango tempest 200. Maybe take 2 hook end tent pegs with you for those points to hopefully stop it slipping. I like its dark in side even in the day light and its small but you'll be snug 🤓 haha. Cheers mate 🍻
Thanks for watching Mike. I did wonder if maybe the front peg loops had been put on incorrectly in the factory? It would make sense if they were the other way around 🤷🏼♂️ thanks for watching and commenting as always buddy. You may get to see the tent on the 26th 😀
I think you are right that it is the wrong way around. Factory worker just got mixed up. I got a helm 1 recently and when I pitched it, the inner door was facing the back. 🤦🏼♂️. Just had to unclip the inner and turn it around.
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 oh yeah and they do that because it is more durable. Its a real nice feature. That usually is the strongest set up for a tent and staking out. So its good and super durable be well!
As far as the vents not coming up high enough you could put a stick in the ground to push up don't the tie lines hence pushing the vent flap up higher.
Interesting bit of kit mate. Probs just a bit too small for me. Looks a good bit of kit tho. I hope it's Schnauzer proof 😂 thanks for sharing mate. Rob
Great review mate! I'm 5"10 and dont consider that tall. Sometimes the length annoys me halfway through the night I find myself pushing my feet on the end and have to shunt myself back up
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 the exact same thing you mentioned with the orientation of the polls. Came to the same conclusion. Other than that I wish the vestibule was on the side as I use it for motorycle camping and have to climb over my helmet etc if that makes sense. I've maybe done 80 -100 camps with it now and its held up really nicely. I do love it overall
NzJohny ADV that’s good to know mate thank you. I actually emailed Snugpak about the poles and they replied saying the bent section was originally designed to go at the back to lift up the foot box. But it doesn’t do any harm to the tent to have it either way 😊👍 I’ll include that info when I get to do my longer term full review
Out of curiosity I'm 5 10 and a side sleeper generally, would this tent be roomy enough considering i tend to be more huddled than a back sleeper would be?
Looks a bit small overall but that aside design looks strong. Like it would take a battering by the wind on a high ridge and you'd still get a decent night's sleep. Btw I think those pegs should be other way around shouldn't they??
Yeah I agree it will stand up to anything the weather can throw at it. It’s solid. The pegs are in the correct way mate. There’s a shot near the end of the vid which shows the peg in full
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 yeah saw that. To me it looks as though the groove should be at the back not the front. I thought that would stop the material loop rising up over the peg.
bought it and was impressed with the tent.. but, to be honest its a glorified bivi tent. this fella has done the best review I've seen. most of the others are given the tent to give a positive review. I don't mind the small size but I did expect it to be a touch bigger.
Are you still using it?. mines gone to Odin heaven by way of the bomb fire. it was too heavy considering its size. saved the poles for use in random tarp set ups.
I haven’t used it much at all in honesty. My life has had massive changes and I no longer have the time to get out like I did before 😢 thanks for watching and taking the time to comment though. I still read them all
Hey there mate. I would say it completely depends what your needs are. If you don’t mind carrying the extra weight and want that room for multiple people then I’d go for the 3. But if it’s just for you and weight is an issue then definitely the 2 would be the better choice
Hey mate cheers for the question. Unbelievably I still haven’t actually used this tent due to lockdown etc. So can’t really comment on how good or bad it is in the field. I expect it to be an awesome tent though and the reason I got the 2 was for the lighter weight. I’m sure it’ll be ok when I do eventually get out in it. I’ll have a follow up video on the channel when I do 🤟
Hey Malcolm. I’d say it’s fairly big. Large enough to keep boots, bag and a few other bits in it. But not as tall as I’d like it to be for cooking. Thanks for watching mate 💪
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 hi I have this tent and love it. Although I'm only 5'8" so the length is fine for me. It also really hold the heat in during winter months. Regarding cooking in the porch. I just unclip the bottom two front corners holding the inner to the outer, and push the inner back, creating another foot of space to cook in. Hope this helps.
That is a bloody great idea mate! I hadn’t thought of that!! Thanks very much for commenting. I am still yet to use this tent 😔 and I had bought it specifically for winter lol. Probably gonna be summer by the time it sees any action at this rate.
Hi mate, thanks for vid. Trying so hard to find the right tent for wild camping. As you must know there is 30 billion tents in production currently. Honestly, talk about a saturated market. Anyhow I'm ex British Army and snugpac has always been held in high regard there. So to try and narrow it down I thought I wonder what Snugpac do? And I find this, and all is well. BUT..... Ive heard a few people say if your over 6ft this isnt for you. Then you mention it and demo it. Ahh man! I'm sick. Do you think this would be OK for me at 6'1"? I'm guessing not. :-/ Why oh why would any manufacturer make a small mans tent? It makes no sense. Its like when they make a good film but put sex and to much violence in it. If you just cut them scenes instead of it being an 18 its a 15 and now you just opened up your market base. Same here, no 5'8" guy is gonna complain tent too long. But I cant be a customer. Why would you design something like that? Thanks for the review mate. You may have just saved me some money. Greetings from Geordieland
Hello mate. This is my favourite comment of the year so far! 😆 It’s a great tent to be fair and it might be ok if you sleep curled up a bit or diagonally across it but if you sleep like I showed in the vid your feet will defo be touching the end. And that’s without a sleeping bag and mat. Cheers for watching and taking the time to comment. Glad it was useful for you

I know it'll stand up to the elements though, so as long as I can get comfortable in it and cook in bad weather I'll be a happy man 😀 thanks for watching yet another vid. Legend 🤘
Great video bad tent ty
Hey Danny. Welcome to the channel. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad tent but it definitely has some things I don’t like. I’ve still not actually been able to use it yet so can’t give it a full review. Hope to soon though 👍
Thank you
My pleasure mate 😊👍
Cheers for the info John, I’m sure that will help lots of people
Nice video. Thank you for sharing it. You have my support.;)
Thanks man, that’s very gracious of you. I appreciate it 💪
I have a scorpion 3 tent, great tent but I prefer my litefighter tent over it. It’s quicker to setup and has a vestibule on both sides (so gear on one side and other for entrance). If you get a chance check them out and look into pre-owned or military surplus to save money.
Thanks buddy I’ll be sure to check that out. I also have a lanshan 2 which is a great lightweight option that has two vestibules 😊👍
excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Question; Once you set up the tent for the first time, can you leave the inner tent attached to the fly so that it can go up in one shot? (similar to the Hilleberg tents) Thanks. J
Thanks mate. And good question. Yes you certainly can do that 👍
Nice review Andy.
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 I think you're right because it's the material loop we use on the vango. Strange why they've done that.
No probs mate 👊
Mike.
I think you are right that it is the wrong way around. Factory worker just got mixed up. I got a helm 1 recently and when I pitched it, the inner door was facing the back. 🤦🏼♂️. Just had to unclip the inner and turn it around.
Cheers Mark. I still haven’t actually got to use this tent yet due to lockdown. But when I get it out next I’ll see if I can switch it around 😊
The stake goes thru the ring and the loop is the pull tab. High end tents have similar systems like a hilleberg tent.
Thanks for the information Jason 🤘
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 oh yeah and they do that because it is more durable. Its a real nice feature. That usually is the strongest set up for a tent and staking out. So its good and super durable be well!
As far as the vents not coming up high enough you could put a stick in the ground to push up don't the tie lines hence pushing the vent flap up higher.
Yeah I agree mate, but you shouldn’t have to mod it really for the price it should already be like that 😉
My 6'4" 300 pounds isn't going to fit in that....LOL GREAT look at the tent buddy, We're looking forward to seeing an overnight in it.
TINY Numismatics hey Tiny. Thanks for watching buddy. I think 300lbs would be ok, but 6’4 is a no go 😝 hope you’re well pal
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 LOL... Unless I just let my feet hang out...Hope you guys are doing good. Tell the family Hi for us.
TINY Numismatics thanks buddy will do, same to you and yours 💪
Good review i think it's built to be like a "stealthy" tent small low profile.
Thank you mate 💪
Interesting bit of kit mate. Probs just a bit too small for me. Looks a good bit of kit tho. I hope it's Schnauzer proof 😂 thanks for sharing mate. Rob
Rob Bell Outdoors cheers Rob. Those pesky muts are not getting anywhere near my new tent 😋
Great review mate! I'm 5"10 and dont consider that tall. Sometimes the length annoys me halfway through the night I find myself pushing my feet on the end and have to shunt myself back up
Thanks man 😊 have you had any other issues with it at all?
@@robertherek4020 it will be fine. Only an issue is you like to sprawl your legs out etc
Thanks for the comment man, appreciate you taking the time 💪
TIP: LEAVE THE INNER TENT ATTACHED TO THE FLY. Faster setup and no chance of wetting the inner tent in the rain.
Good tip mate thanks for watching 💪
basically a glorified bivi?. but cool looking and bombproof. exactly what I'm looking for. awaiting delivery. thanks for the walk around.
No problem mate. I’m getting a new sleeping mat for Xmas so will be out in this to see how it performs. Keep a look out for the video 😊👍
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 OK, I see what you did there.... now I have to sub to watch your vid LOL.... Done👍
@@vespasian266 haha cheers mate. I mean you can always unsub when you’ve seen the vid 🙈
Very nice vlog. Thanks my new friend. Stay connected. Full support

Thank you very much. Your support is great 😊
Are you still using it?. mines gone to Odin heaven by way of the bomb fire. it was too heavy considering its size.
saved the poles for use in random tarp set ups.
I haven’t used it much at all in honesty. My life has had massive changes and I no longer have the time to get out like I did before 😢 thanks for watching and taking the time to comment though. I still read them all
Hello, would you recommend the Scorpion 2 or the Scorpion 3?
Hey there mate. I would say it completely depends what your needs are. If you don’t mind carrying the extra weight and want that room for multiple people then I’d go for the 3. But if it’s just for you and weight is an issue then definitely the 2 would be the better choice
With hindsight would you have opted for the Snugpak Scorpion 3?
Hey mate cheers for the question. Unbelievably I still haven’t actually used this tent due to lockdown etc. So can’t really comment on how good or bad it is in the field. I expect it to be an awesome tent though and the reason I got the 2 was for the lighter weight. I’m sure it’ll be ok when I do eventually get out in it. I’ll have a follow up video on the channel when I do 🤟
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 Look forward to it.
Can you pack up the whole tent without taking the inner layer out
Yes mate you certainly can 😊
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 ok thank you sir love that tent about to buy one
It’s such a cool looking tent isn’t it. And I’m sure it’s gonna be ace for my needs when we eventually get out of lockdown and I get to use it 😔
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 oh I hear that I hate lockdown
I’ve got loads of winter camping gear I got for my birthday and Christmas that’s never been used. It’ll be summer by the time I get to use it 😂😂
Is that a pad’s estate?
Sorry, I don’t understand your question mate 😬
So is the porch, large or small...
Why oh why would any manufacturer make a small mans tent? It makes no sense. Its like when they make a good film but put sex and to much violence in it. If you just cut them scenes instead of it being an 18 its a 15 and now you just opened up your market base. Same here, no 5'8" guy is gonna complain tent too long. But I cant be a customer. Why would you design something like that?
Thanks for the review mate. You may have just saved me some money. Greetings from Geordieland
Hello mate. This is my favourite comment of the year so far! 😆
It’s a great tent to be fair and it might be ok if you sleep curled up a bit or diagonally across it but if you sleep like I showed in the vid your feet will defo be touching the end. And that’s without a sleeping bag and mat.
Cheers for watching and taking the time to comment. Glad it was useful for you
You just got it up. Lol😅
Story of my life 😜
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 hahaha
I'm 6ft and it wasn't long enough for me.
I didn’t think it would be mate. Cheers for letting everyone know 👍
Woodside?
Sorry what? Lol what does Woodside mean?
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 was this filmed in woodside, it looks very familiar?
No mate, I live in Northamptonshire 👍
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 Must of been built by the same developers with them both being in the Midlands.
Could be mate if it’s from the same area
I thought you was about 5 ft 5 ....
S Morgs78 🤣🤣 watch it sonny!
If it's got that many bad points then why u keeping it? Send it back and get something better....
Hey Lee. I was just highlighting my initial thoughts and to be honest only really included the downsides. I’m still yet to actually use the tent due to lockdown but once I’m able I’ll do a full review and include all the good things I like about it too 😊👍 thanks for watching mate
Hmm. Not a horrible tent but...
I probably didn’t do the positives any justice. It’s defo not a bad tent at all 🤣
Got it do NOT buy this tent.
Too late. I’ve already got it. What’s your opinion on it? Would love to hear your thoughts
@@steelmanoutdoors4479 My comment was based off of how you were talking about the tent. You made it sound like there were too many issues and the tent was not worth buying. I did not hear anything positive about the tent in that review that would make me want to buy it.
Ahh right. But this was just my first impressions of the tent. Not a full review. There are some things that I love about it and will explain it all when I get out and test it thoroughly 😁
