@@badpuppy3 If / once an AI can do my job, it’s welcome to it…I cut up really small unique things for a living - an AI driven robot can probably do the cutting but interpreting the data is something it can’t yet do - it will be able to do it once a person programs it, but to do that someone has to image and describe it so the AI can learn…I’d say, 50-100 years and my job will be obsolete but personally I’ll be dead by then and if /when an AI is better at my job, that’s good as errors will be less and errors are not good. I work in health and research.😃

That will only increase if AI writing and production lowers costs and effort enough to fine tune output according to feedback. They are getting paid like they are factory piece-workers, and their pay is ridiculously low, especially given the 9 figure salaries of the CEOs. The union demands are quite reasonable. The people responsible for a large portion of our entertainment, which kept us sane during COVID, shouldn't need to be on public assistance, or unable to pay rent, when those at the top of the food chain are living in such luxury. More pay equity in the workforce, across the board, would make a huge difference to all of us.
Hollywood writers: you do know you can have an agenda, AND cool CGI, AND a good script, right???! They are not mutually exclusive. I'm totally for involving more minorities and women in all aspects of movie-making, but the number of franchises and characters you've already ruined with - 'no need for a logical plot or good story when we have an agenda and explosions' - is disgraceful. I think Writers are overpaid for the content they re-write and remake this past decade. A.I. is going to take over anyway, might as be entertained at the same time.

The AI gets things wrong all the time. And yes they need too be guided by humans, but it means one person can do more work then they could before. Writers rooms simply won't need as much writers. But this could also mean that small studios can start competing against the larger ones. Thats what I am hoping. In comic books in particualr lone talented artists, or a small team, could pump out stuff better then Marvel and DC, with AI assist in some things.

I think Writers are overpaid for the content they re-write and remake this past decade. A.I. is going to take over anyway, might as be entertained at the same time.

Obviously an "endorsed" reason for the strike. AI is money. It's the next Windows. Even Windows is trying to get in on the next Windows. AI is hype. Don't get caught fighting over hypothetical Nintendo GameCubes that replace workers in a dystopian future where we're so desperate to live out a Wachowski film circa Y2K because TV told us to. AI may replace a lot of workers, but think of all the mechanics and programmers we'll need. All that aside, writers shouldn't stop writing because AI makes scripts that pass as tolerable at best. Anyone using AI to write anything meaningful from a creative perspective will always ultimately be sorely disappointed. AI just hashes up rules and history (aka the past) to produce a result (move arm, color screen, etc). It is impossible for AI to 1. Forward think, and 2. Think. Come to THINK of it, the ordinal value of the items on that list is irrelevant.
You're talking like A.I systems have peeked and what we have now is as good as its going to get. That's really not the case, what were seeing is the birth of these systems and there first tentative steps, which already outperform a good chunk of humanity when it comes to creative output..
Right now if you're good at what you do you've still got the edge... but these A.I systems are growing and improving far..far faster than you are..
its merely a matter of time and not a lot of time at that before we're all outclassed, assume A.I systems wont win this contest will leave you sorely disappointed.

I can understand why they would be worried about that. But, AI can't replace human creativity and originality. I think AI can be a tool to help writers, but it can't fully replace them.
It only took aI one day at a past the bar exam...write original song and story. What makes you believe play I can't replace this industry?
@@captng Well, I don't think it's productive to argue about who's better at creativity. Both AI and humans have their strengths and weaknesses. It's important to recognize and appreciate what each can bring to the table.

The AI gets things wrong all the time. And yes they need too be guided by humans, but it means one person can do more work then they could before. Writers rooms simply won't need as much writers.
But this could also mean that small studios can start competing against the larger ones. Thats what I am hoping.
In comic books in particualr lone talented artists, or a small team, could pump out stuff better then Marvel and DC, with AI assist in some things.
