I study a lot and have so much things to do every day but every Sunday afternoon I practice 3 hours. I spent 2 years not practicing bc I thought 3hours wasn't good enough, now I know that 3hours per week is better than 0hours per week.
Wow three hours on one day sounds awesome! I wish I had that much time for piano at least once a week.. for me it’s more like 30-60 min a day. I figured out it’s better than nothing, even 15 min can sometimes make a difference if it’s a focused session
@@PianoforPleasure yes!! we overestimated what we can do in a week and we underestimate what we can do in a year! If you have just 2hours of practice per week, in one year you gonna have 100hours!!! And it's so much more than 0hours if you thought it wasn't enough in the beginning.
I also try to play every day, sometimes I manage to practice 1-2 hours, sometimes only 10 minutes... but I think the most important thing is to play every day, not one day 4 hours and then a week not to play...
@@magicalmysterypiano8144 yeah, I play just one time per week bc of my schedule, but I still have a little bit of progress, and progress is better than nothing
A neighbor and I get together every week and coach one another on our working pieces. This has proven to be motivating, and fun at the same time. Accountability is a great idea!
Merry Christmas! Great ideas, I need to consciously incorporate. My epiphany this week was that Mastery is not a 10000hr destination, but a lifestyle. Gives new perspective to making the bed in the morning. Perhaps you can do a video on the master's mindset. I live (and practice) with a long term goal in mind. Nothing is extraneous or irrelevant. Willpower will fail, but the lucid vision of a destination will empower to overcome the challenges.
Thank you for your ideas! They are very very good! I am writing them down and have a note book I want to start my weekly review. I’ve played everyday this year except for maybe one or two days. I practice three or more times a day and they may be 5 min or it could be an hour! Just depends on my motivation and or progress or lack there of. I haven’t done private lessons yet. I don’t know anyone that also is playing and or learning so I’m kinda on my own in that regard. I really like your ideas and plan on implementing them starting with the new year! It seems like it took me a long time to become focused and not get distracted by trying to learn too many things at once. Seems like I spent all this year on scales and not enough time on reading sheet music. I began to do more sheet music reading and found out that even the easy stuff is difficult. Like I’m on a completely different planet than just knowing my scales. So that is my direction recently and I want to make that my new goal for next year. With all that said, thank you again for your ideas. They came at a perfect time for me! Ross
The only thing keeping me accountable is my piano teacher weekly meetup. But I’ll only practice what he teaches (which makes sense). But I would like to do other things on the side, I need to do better and keep up with those other things. I’m gonna try making deadlines for myself .
I think just knowing that you were capable, and determined enough to get somewhere - is a pretty good thing to celebrate, internally - and any wonderful stuff that comes as a result of that - is often a result of putting in that effort - IMO I choose many sports, over one - in a careful decision. Because I enjoyed being to switch on a dime - and still be a fearful competitor. I didn't need to be number 1 - if I got to enjoy them all equally. I loved the adventure of every one - and things worked out pretty well, considering because I could adapt easily, which made things a lot easier to get into the groove of. Not saying I wouldn't want to be number #1 - but I wanted to make sure I got the joy out of it, too. And this philosophy has served me well today, as I accommodate many injuries from a VERY active lifestyle. but at least I could quite easily pick up something new tomorrow, if needed to. and hopefully, hardly lose a step! AT least that's the goal. And I'm always the workhorse.... I usually end up with lighter partners - who play the front - with me having to do most the work from the back. But I fit in this groove well - for whatever reason And we won A LOT of events. Maybe best to let me run? I dunno know....... I don't stop to think about it :-D
Wanna know something funny Allysia? Every other day (for a few months now) I've been saying to myself: "OMG, I miss practicing the piano". What's so funny is that, it's not as if my piano is broke, or stolen, or missing... it is sitting in one corner of my apartment in a gig bag!!! 😂
Random question: but do you have a list of your favorite sites to download classical music from (preferably free) or even a list of beginner-friendly books to start learning classical pieces? I’m self-learning piano and am trying to find classical music that I can start learning. Thank you!!
Hi Allysia, i'm 12 and i'm learning keyboard (planning on giving my grade 8 exam this february) and i'm just getting into piano pieces. As the first piece i had learned a bit of Turkish March by Mozart (around at the development stage). I'm a huge fan of mozart and just started learning the sonata no 16 k545 in c major . What other mozart / chopin pieces would you suggest as i'm a huge fan of both .
Hi Allysia, these are such helpful tips, thank you for sharing these! It can be hard feel motivated all the time, so will definitely take some ideas onboard! Another tip that worked for me (which is probably an addition to Tip 1): upload your videos publicly (say on CZcams) and try being consistent with those uploads too. Having that accountability greatly boosted my motivation to be at the piano and finish more pieces. Also loved tip #7 - and now is the perfect time to set those yearly goals. What would the examples of piano goals be though? Learn xx pieces a year, or maybe something else?
Hey! I’m also a piano CZcamsr, nice to meet you :) preparing right now a video about how I plan things and recommend my students to do that way as well - I’m more of a fan of short terms planing (up to a month or so) and going piece-by-piece (or program-by-program, depending on how many pieces you have time to learn once).
Hi Alyssia,, just started and purchased 2 books; "Alfreds Adult level 1, & "Piano Book for Adult Beginners:, Damon Ferrante". Any other books you'd recommend?
If you wish to accomplish something, then you gotta' get it done - because nobody is going to do it for you. And then, you have to make it a priority.... Kinda' like my bike thing. I know I HAVE to ride.... if I want to go. Whatever I feel like - I better ride! Or the guilt would nag me. lol Priorities - and we set these for ourselves! :-D :-D :-D

Having a piano teacher is amazing. He keeps me in check by making me practice things I don't want! (But those things help me alot xD)

Wow! Playing every day during the whole year - I should say, big respect! Keep up the good work!

you ve been playing longer than Trifonov. Aim for Carnegie Hall in 2021. Good new years resolution.

As a beginner, the goal setting idea is great but I have no idea how much I can achieve in a given time, or what I should aim to achieve x

Hello beautiful angel
So cause of Covid lock down load my piano teacher until idk when.
So guess I'm in the teach myself catagory again :/
But this list will help me.
Can you do the most easiest piano pieces by Ravel? :)
Hi Alyssia,, just started and purchased 2 books; "Alfreds Adult level 1, & "Piano Book for Adult Beginners:, Damon Ferrante". Any other books you'd recommend?
Is it required to practice at least an hour everyday
My main problem is I can play the favorite parts of my pieces but get bored with the rest and quickly find other pieces I love
With me I find that everything I play has a section that comes very easily to me, and then there is a section that tends to be incredibly difficult.

How could you spend 30 years studying piano when you are not a day over 18 ?
Really, how many times do you die your hair every week?
I've been watching all your videos Allysia but i just notice there is nowhere to see you playing anything. As how!? Can you really even play?
00:02 You scare me when you do that with your eyes.
