People need to know where to come for the next sand leveling series!
I worked at a golf course and was the Superintendent of a local driving range. We used push brooms to get the sand into the canopy of the grass but you have to spread the sand, wait for it to dry, then broom it in by pushing the broom from one end to the other just like mowing. Not sweeping like your trying to get it up 😂.
Chad Cochran
Ooo good tip right there! Thanks!
Left Tool totally watched 50 First Dates before getting dressed lol... Great video & quick results. Is that a Gilmour impact sprinkler?
JR 4482
I think the plastic one from the front yard is a gilmour. The one I have on the tripod for this project is an orbit brass
The Lawn Tools awesome thanks, have been looking at that same Gilmour
I'll be coming back to these videos when I'm ready to use sand. To many mounds in my yard still. Great video!
The Neighbor Dominator
Thanks Clint. Makes a huge difference. Just tried to reel mow left tool’s yard. Awful. Another sand leveling coming soon! 😂
This is so sick. i'm actually really frustrated that the youtubz algorithm hasn't sent me to you guys yet. been following CW & RK & LCN for years and JUST found you guys. i'm now 15 videos in and being in socal, i'm in the pre-renovation stages of a new Bermuda lawn. I FINALLY got the Bermuda advice I've been looking for! you guys are awesome! Love the vids so far! I see all the collaboration with the CW-LR from you guys, but a little bummed I've never found you guys through the others :( just fantastic stuff here guys!
You guys are a bunch of tools! And I love it!
😁👍🏼
Excellent video !!! Love before and after in the same video. Thanks for taking the time.

I’d like to say I planned that out on purpose but that just shows how behind I am editing videos 😂
I put down .5lb N a couple days before sand leveling. Definitely was good for a head start on grow back. Also, no sand leveling video is complete without slow-mo slinging footage.
😁👍🏼👍🏼
First time viewer, regular on lawn forum. This is good stuff. That awning on the garage looks great
Marcus T
Thanks! My father in law is a builder and that was an addition she got for her birthday
When you say water a lot afterwards....just curios how often you watered. Every other day, every 3 days? Also great vid! 🙂
dxdave316
I watered about every other day heavy
If you have irrigation I’d run it every morning around 4:30 for 20-40 minutes. And every other evening 15 minutes a zone. Depends on your sprinkler and how much water it puts out. it also depends on how much sun and how hot it is.
Enjoy this channel a bunch. Keep it up.

Thanks so much!
A lot of work but pays off! Enjoyed watching.

Yes it pays off for sure! Thanks!

Can’t wait to get the mower out on it!
you can rent a lawn leveling spreader for about $40 for 4 hours. It worked for my 1 acre lawn perfectly in about 1.5 hours.
Amazing! I cannot wait to level my lawn. Also, I need to start reading more into the Lawn Forum. Thanks for the great info once again. 👍🏻👌🏻

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation!!
I’m gonna do this to my yard this winter while my lawn is dormant. It would be nice to mow closer to 10 mph consistently while on a smooth lawn.
Not sure it’s advisable but I would love to see the experiment 😁
@@TheLawnTools here’s a little bit of background. I live on 5 acres in the Phoenix area,…so I don’t have to worry about the extreme low temps. Our lawn has common Bermuda. We don’t overseed with Ryegrass. I just mow until it goes completely dormant, and then I’ll mow one more time during the winter so that it looks like a nice and well kept dormant lawn, if you know what I mean. My main point of doing it in the winter, is so that I can scalp and bag it, then aerate it, then level it so that it’s ready when the spring rolls around. If I don’t do it during that time period, it’ll make for a very long and tedious process,…as my grass grows pretty fast. I’ll keep in touch with how it goes.
Great info as always bro. Like someone else mentioned on TLF I threw down my 1lb of nitrogen 4 days prior to ensure that great push of growth

Nice! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for the information guys.
Perfectly teased at the end👌🏼

I am 7 days into testing your theory about too much sand. 3 inches thick in some areas and not a blade of grass to appear yet. HOC was cut to 3/16” just before sanding
Richard Nettles
I think I had some 3” spots in my front yard ... you can see those spots acting as sand traps in the mini golf video a few weeks later

Great tips guys!! I eventually plan on sand leveling myself. Great explanation and hopefully get results like you. Great video man

Thanks bro!
Sorry if you answered this. What sand should I get? Silica sand is like $7 / 50lbs. I hope it's not silica. Just want to shop around and ask a few local gravel companies if they have what i need. Thanks.
Do I have to lay down seed and all of that or will I have improvement just by putting sand down and leveling it and watering it?
Aye boys. Nothing like a nice level deck aye? Must say that I am more partial to a sand for leveling.
The Green and Gold Life
More partial to sand than dirt??? Not sure what you meant
What about deep mole holes where there isn’t grass anymore?

Evergreen Cottage
Some tools are better than others at different jobs 😁👍🏼
So if I scalp my lawn with my Honda push mower and spread some sand then water it a lot I’ll have good grass like this?
Is there an appropriate time of season. I'm guessing not during a hot summer
prime grass growing time for w/e grass you have. for us burmuda folk it is unfortunately in the middle of the summer when it grows best
How long after sand leveling did you cut?
Nice mower. I just did new turf front yard final mowed to 11/2. And looks ok but i like 2”. No way i could get used to 1/2” yikes. Id like to top dress it tho come end of august. Just to patch it will the grass still
Grow through it ok? After you lay samd down do u seed it ?
Thats not scalping, here in Australia we mow to dirt to scalp couch. Great video.
Ryan G
“That’s not a scalp. This is a scalp” 😂
IS LEVELING/SMOOTHING-out the lawn, obtainable with a significantly sloped lawn?
Hoping “the tools,” or anyone with experience in this field can help me out with this question…?
My lawn, mostly in the front, has a gradual, but significant, slope that is designed to drain to the sides and front of our lot to accommodate for sufficient drainage.
With that being said. My question is, will this affect the leveling process? And/or do y’all have any suggestions as to any “Dos/DONTs” while trying to obtain the best results or mostly smoothing out the low spots so I don’t keep leaving “scalp” marks.
My ego mower is set as low as it can go (1”)
Thank you so much in advance and absolutely love yalls videos!!!
It would work on a slope as long as it doesn’t rain for 2 weeks and you get to control the irrigation. But heavy washout still may take some sand out over time so it could be tough.
Great video as always!!!

Thanks my bermuda brother!

Vinny Pinatelli
Thanks! Yea it really turned out nice! Can’t wait to get the mower on it again!
Screened sand.
Can u seed over top of the sand ??
BAims
It seems strange to me but people do it and it turns out ok. Brett’s Grasscapades did it recently
If I need to re-seed lawn (i have small open areas missing seed from storm), do I re-seed before sand or after sanding?. Thanks!
What up TLT, I really like the vids man keep them coming. Quick question you mentioned PGR. I’m guessing your using Tnex? How do you track your GDD’s? I have watched every video on CZcams and still not real confident. I’m in NC and average temps will be around 80-85 now in July. Thanks for any help.

Green cast! I think there are other but this one seems to be the most popular
As an aspiring grass enthusiast, what happens to the sand as the year goes on? Does it feel like a sand pit or does it just mix with the ground?
Just mixes in with the dirt basically
What’s the tool at the beginning for striping?
A toro Greensmaster 1000 with a custom paint job
If I close my eyes I could swear it was ben sims talking.

I'm in North Texas
What time of season should I do this?
My yard is 1yr old (Bermuda)
Crown & Coke
You want to do it when the grass is most vigorously growing. So for Bermuda, want to do it when it’s hot. Just water a lot. If you wait until too close to fall, it might go dormant before it all fills in.
Live right by the beach, how about few buckets of beach sand would that work? .
Asking for a friend 👀..
I'm that guy!
I bet your soil has lots of sand in it already if you live right by the beach. Wouldn’t think a bit more would hurt 👍🏼

Betty bought a bit of butter to make her lawn freakin awesome
Nice bbshop 7th chord! Are you a barbershopper?
I have been in a quartet but never barber shop style. That would be fun though!
I have a question is mason sand better than white sand? I stay in Florida and have st.augustine grass .
I don’t know much about white sand but st aug loves that Florida sandy soil, right? So I would think you should be good to go!
Nice! Almost my turn... Stay tuned! 😜
The Lawn Shark
Booya!
WARNING:
Do NOT do this year after year for sand does not retain ANY nutrients!
Yes, it is great for a one time or maybe two time, but not always!
Yea... golf greens look terrible...
So, When are you going to grow some grass?
Dennis Page
Bermuda weed only for me 😁
Hello sir I’m living in Iraq now the weather is too hot can I do it now or not How often do I watering
Both times I have done it, the temperatures were in the 90s Fahrenheit. Hot. I have bermudagrass and it thrives in the heat. Just need to water a lot. Lots of water every other day. Cool season grass would need to be done in spring or fall.
Florida First
All these rules apply to cool season?
Jim Morgan
Depends on which type of cool season and what your current height of cut is
Hi, great video! I've been wanting to do this for some time now. I'm surprised my mower hasn't fallen apart from all the bouncing. I live in the midwest and my soil is very clay rich, and my yard is very shaded. Is this still recommended, but may just take longer to grow back? Thanks!
It just depends how healthy your lawn is at the time you level. If your grass is struggling in spots than it will struggle anyway thru the sand.
@jonathan bremner
Thank you for your response! My lawn is pretty healthy in most spots, but the heavy, heavy shaded areas will take some work. Thanks again!

I guess I will throw in a Ga first because apparently that's cool 🤔? If I'm not first I'm not first. 2nd place is the first loser. No offense to anyone. I love the lawn care community. Fun video as always! Knocked it out of the park! Nice! Slow mo sland slinging ENGAGED! Please tell me he washed his hands after slinging the poop!
Bobzilla661
Haha I don’t think it was actually poop... or I hope it wasn’t ...
A yard of sand is about 1 ton. A yard of feathers is not a ton.

Why for all the size of the area you are levelling are you using a 3 foot spreader. Given the size of the area you should be using a 10 foot spreader. Don’t buy a spreader, MAKE ONE IT’S EASY!
