    I reckon the r170 is the nicest car I've ever owned.

    You can't get new replacement electric clutch any more they are not made. If your electric coil is burnt out (close circuit, shorted out , or open circuit,) you need something with the same resistance at 12v to give the correct amp draw to fool the engine ecu that the electric clutch is still there to enable the boost control bypass valve to operate, otherwise the bypass valve stays open and you burn out the MOSFET (power diode ) in the engine ECU. I had to repair the MOSFET in the engine ECU because the previous owner drove the cars a lot with a faulty clutch electric clutch coil.
    The engine ECU is coded to the immobiliser and the the immobiliser is coded to the chip in the key fob, so changing the engine ECU means changing to the matched ECU immobiliser and the ignition key fobs.
    The keys can be swapped with the original key as hey are held in the fob with a small roll pin, so changing the locks is not required.

      Do you know what to put to fool the ECU,my electric coil burned and now I make it fixed clutch and take out electric coil and now my bypass valve is always open,there was also burnt fuse and asr bas light on,and i changed it and no more light but bypass never closes so i need something to fool ecu,I see you know about that stuff and do I need to change mosfet?

      yes you need to cha ge the burnt out Mosfet o side the engine ecu.
      the mosfet is about 50p and you need a low wattage small soldering iron and a melted solder sucker to draw away the melted solder.
      I never found a way to fool the ECU..the only way is to get a second hand clutch windings and mount it by the air box and replace the clutch with a fixed drive pulley . avaliable as aftermarket.
      it is difficult to fool the ecu about the clutch windings I tried resistances etc without luck and they get hot.
      when fixed the bypass valve works correctly

      @kbrickell4732 Před 11 měsíci

      fix it quick before the mosfet in the ECU burns out !

      @kbrickell4732 Před 11 měsíci

      nothing I know of to fool the ECU that the electric clutch is there..tried big resistors etc...the only thing is the clutch coil ( not open circuit or short circuit) mounted by the air filter. and a fixed supercharger pulley

    So I’m kinda late to this party but how has this car been running now 2 years later? I’m getting ready to do mine but I’d love to hear how the car runs after putting miles on it.

    Wondering if you have experience with running this AND a larger crank pulley together. If so, did you need a shorter belt or does the tensioner take up enough slack?

      According to the internet if you do a bigger crank pulley you need to change alternator pulley too so you don’t overrun it being in the same belt

    Removing the clutch will remove the way of regulating the charger when idling. The charger will eventually will die due to this as there is no way to bypass the air in this case stopping the charger to keep it cool.

      The face-lift r170 are clutch less i run this for years like this with no problems in fact its still going without problems.mercedes only put the clutch in to try and be fuel efficient but it didn't make much difference so they didn't bother when they did a face-lift

    Hi, I'm waiting to get mine delivered, thanks for the tip! :) Anyway, maybe a stupid question and already sort of answered here: I know you didn't remove the SC itself, but just to make sure, I heard you need to remove the metal pipe that's in front of the pulley in order to be able to fish it out - do you by any chance remember if that was the case or is it possible to fish the old pulley out without removing anything else whatsoever? Thanks!
