Fender® '57 Bandmaster™ Demo | Fender
/ fender - Hudba
YOU GUY SHOULD TOTALLY CONTINUE MAKING THESE AMPS!!!
I have a reissue 57 Bandmaster, and a recently built clone, every detail copied, carbon resistors, classic tone transformers, including pine lacquered tweed box etc., all replicated from Fender's original schematic. Chassis wired up by Tony at VintageTone. As rich and wonderful as the reissue is, if you build a clone to original specs you get something really amazing, very different. Gorgeous rich low end. Remarkable tone adjustments, (unlike what is said in this video.) Also the reissue cabinet is an extra inch wide at the bottom, Guitar Cabinaet Direct makes their bandmaster cab to original specs. I'm not so sure they should have fiddled with Leo's original design now that I've heard it. Don't get me wrong, I love them both.
My favorite tone amp!. I own many Fender amps, a '69 Bandmaster-Reverb, a '73 Super-Reverb, a '65 reissue Princeton-Reverb, a '65 reissue Deluxe-Reverb, a reissue Vibrolux-Reverb, and a reissue 65 Twin-Reverb amp. I like the tone of the '57 Bandmaster the best....especially with the vintage alnico speakers.
Please reissue Fender 57 Harvard too
Awesome! I can't wait to try this one!
Very exciting for this one.
Now that is a great sounding amp!
Another great amp by Fender, made even better. I fully agree with Shane Nicholas, about tweaking the original design for modern day reliability improvements.
Nice job guys. Sounds really good!
Bought one brand new last week for 2000 and let me tell ya in 4 words, best damn amp ever! Sounds huge and it's so loud that it melts the paint off the walls, but is very loud, perfect. Plenty of headroom if you know how to use the volume on your guitar. Plenty of bass in those 10" speakers.
Yeah, I built a Weber kit but ditched the shrill Jensen clones. I re-coned the speakers with Weber Blue Pup cones to tame the treble (couldn't even use the bright channel)....anyway you are right...it might be 26 watts, but it's still quite LOUD.....It will be quite loud at 5 on the volume control where a hint of grit starts to happen. I love that amp and have been gigging it for three years now with zero problems.
Legendary !!!
It's cool to have seen Sam Gates, Bill's brother, on this project.
Shane sure knows how to play a guitar... He gets every ounce of tone and sustain from each note...
This is fine, but I have to say that this is one rare case where the silver face models were actually an improvement. A late 60s to early 70s silver faced Bandmaster was in my opinion the best clean sounding amp ever made.
I use Weber Attenuators on my 100 watt Marshall DSL JCM 2000 and my Fender 60 watt Supersonic. They really don't hurt the tone unless you attenuate them down to bedroom levels. They allow me to play them at home with great tone and without my neighbors calling the cops.
the lick @ 2:06 made me want to buy it now
yeah!
My favorite amp and guitar is a 65' Gibson mahogany Melody Maker through an April 65' Fender Bassman Head on top of a Fender 2-12 cab with 2 Jensen OR Utah speakers. IN 1986.
The guy in the middle says it best. It's the AMP making the sound, the controls are just accessing it a bit, but there is the 'drive to get there' too. The guitar is your car and the chosen circuit path is the road. A good Fender amp will let you treat the pick like the steering wheel. Bigger filter caps? Ugh! Highway SFTY
5:44 - I hear Joe Walsh in this tone, big time! I can't wait to try one of these out!
5:43 - 6:12 SOLD!
I think Fender do have point to point wiring on some of their Custom Shop amps. It was already mentioned within this vid (01:54 ) that if you lined up several amps of the same model they'd all sound different as the manufacturing variances were quite wide in the previous years. Fender now also has to consider the wider expectations of the amp's sound palette in modern times ( 03:50 ).
Should have done the brown tolex version. I got to see one live once. Missing its speakers but too cool....
Shane seems like a really cool guy.
Love u guys...!!!!
The market vision to rescue the legendary Fender tone is always welcome. To this day I do not understand why was discontinued the best blackface amplifier: the Fender Pro Reverb 2x12. Fenderguru, dot, com, slash, amps, slash, pro-reverb.
Oh my God, if I could only get my hands on one of these amplifiers!!
If you can….I Love mine…they’re great…
I want a Tweed Bandmaster.....PLEASE..!!!
Perhaps the greatest amplifier Fender ever made -- after the '59 Baasman -- was the '61, '62, '63 Tremolux. If they had any sense, they would rebuild one of these amps WITH the same exact chassis, wiring and components as the original and not change A THING. And oh yeah, sell it at a price those of us non-stars can actually afford ...
i want to work in Fender sooooooo muchhhh
Thought of replacing the valves to give you less head room? Also as a last resort you could use an attenuator
Mike Lewis's amp sounds great! Can I have one like that please?
Shall I get one of these or a '65 Deluxe Reverb RI? I love the look of the tweed but have a Romany Plus (tweed) for home use and want a new amp for small clubs / pub use with a small gigging band. Looking for a great clean sound with a decent amount of headroom and of course that lovely natural break up that no pedal can capture. I was thinking that the Bandmaster at 26 watts would give me slightly more headroom than the DRRI at 22 Watts but my guess is that 4 watts difference would be hardly noticeable. And of course you get the beautiful tube vibrato with the 65 DRRI and great blackface looks as well. Ooh man I am torn!
Waiting for a Super Six reissue!
It sure does produce a lovely high frequency humming sound
Why did you stop making them..I want one!?
It’s a way to keep prices high and flying off the shelf. Kind of like a house that’s listed too long, won’t move at all. They want people like you that missed it cocked, locked and loaded ready to pull the trigger the next time they reissue this model. Companies like fender, Gibson and Marshall are not really instrument companies anymore, because in reality their instruments are obsolete. They are marketing companies generating enthusiasm and demand for vintage gear for nostalgia. And they are tremendously successful at this.
Townshend also used a Peavey Classic amp.
Yes, a Peavy!
so what is the diff between these and a 4-10 blues deville if you stay on the clean channel?
That's why it's a fantastic amp...Marshall family are the bests doing their job! haha
is Sam Marshall behind the voicing of the Machete? im not excited about the name of the amp but the voicing and what it does is by far the best ive heard. also, will the Machete get a name and look change? in my opinion just change the way it looks and change the name and its THE best amp Fender has come up with (and ive played em all) Cheers!
To add to this, I have a THD tweed 4x10 Bassman Reverb that was made by Andy Marshall ....
Thought of throwing a pedal in front of it? Something like a paisley drive is good for those who like the fender crunch but cant max their amp
When I think of the tweed Bandmaster 5E7 I think of Doobie Bros. tunes like China Grove or Rockin' Down the Highway. Didn't Pat Simmons get that crunchy, not overly-compressed tone from old bandmasters?
good points! lol! man i cant afford this reissue stuff! prices are just crazy!
An attenuator shouldn't be the "last resort". As long as you get a good one and use it right, it is very useful. You can get a great Weber Attenuator for under 250$ , and they are awesome. The more you attenuate, the more you affect the tone to a degree. There really isn't much tone loss unless you attenuate below 1 watt per speaker. So it you run it through 4 speakers, like in a 4x10 Bassman, you need to attenuate it less.
It makes sense that the main designers' name is Marshall. Jim Marshall stole the circutry from Leo Fender to make his amps because he was tired of paying the shipping cost of Leos' amps from America to England. The original is always the best, everything else becomes a weak copy.
Most Marshall amps sound alot different then a fender bassman.
💛
Are they point to point or PCB
J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. used these in the studio during the "major label period"
lol this is funny all the dudes starring at that dude jamming at the end
That guy that talked about how he thinks expectations of bass frequencies are different with players of this century compared to the last century is why we don't need old people being the final word on reissuing a product allegedly based on an original. I am solidly from the last century but I also love new gear when it's great. The young people who dig back and want the tones of the players who did things with older tools don't want some old guy who "thinks" he has a better idea of how those tones _should_ have been. They want _the same tools_ so they can see if they can come up with interesting music modern listeners want to hear. Maybe these new player _want_ the flatulent bottom of the old Fenders. Maybe they don't. They can buy a modern Fender (or other) if the latter is the case.
I'm surprised these mega-corporations like Fender, etc., haven't figured this out yet.
Old people?
I think that was Fender's way of saying that the old amps had flabby muddy bass that farted out. and we can fix that with the reissue.
I was a bit confused. I wasn't sure if they were trying to say 'it was flabby and we fixed that' or 'It lacked bass and we added a touch more in to suit modern tastes'. I'm happy if they took care of the flabbiness, but I don't find I ever need more bass and if I do, there is a control for that.
Donny brook That’s bullshit! How many of these old amps do you own? I have a few Fender amps from the 50s and 60s and they great amps. Don’t talk about shit you nothing about.
Ronnie montrose used one of these.
Actually, this amp is point-to-point like the original. He even says it.
Reissue the 1964 Vibroverb without the Cesar Diaz modifications.
+Chris Simpson Can't you just turn all the mods on and off with the switch?
I've no idea, I don't own one. I've got nothing against the modifications, but I would just like to see a true and faithful reproduction of the 1964 Vibroverb which is one of the best amps of all time IMO.
Absolutely one of the best! And if i recall correctly the reissue is a 64 stock and you can enable the Diaz mods with a samll switch if you want to.
I have one. This is in fact true. Stock or Diaz mods with the flick of a switch. Best of all worlds!
Great to hear. I have a Vox AC30C2X which is great, but I'd trade it in for a Vibroverb any day. I love Vox, they have great cleans, and great clean overdrive, but no one makes a clean tone like Fender. No one.
I would probably like the reissue a thousand times more than an original but the kids playing today that are inspired by the tones we grew up with want the same tools because those old sounds _inspired_ them.
But as always, voicing everything for teles, strats, and LPs. Other than a mention of a Gretsch, hollowbodies and semihollows are left out. Humbucker based semihollows -- well forget that.
I urge the guy with the black strat to learn or play another damn riff
vibrating in the pine? that's the first I have heard of that concept. You can definitely hear the difference between the new and reissue, this amp sounds a touch less hard than the bassman reissue but way harder than a 60 yr old amp no doubt.
Very nice DEMO of the amp. Have a "65" Tremolux with the cab ( re-coned ) and it screams at GIGS when I drive it hard with a sustainer and foot pedal and it sounded great. Very similar. No reverb though. Hey here is a instrumental using a Gibson Falcon 19 @ chacocanyon.bandcamp.com called "MOONLITE WALKERS". there are some free downloads you can use up of the Band. They are looking for KUDOS and please share the link if you can. Thanks and have a good day.
Only problem is that the 59 Bassman is about $1400 new ($800 used) and this new Bandmaster has a street price of $2500.
Why don't fender use a 12ay7 in V1. The circuit is setup to use a 12ay7 and not a 12ax7. THe gain factor is 45 for the ay7 and 100 for the ax7. THey could in fact just by a big supply of EHX 12ay7 and screen them and throw away the bad ones. With the prices the demand for these amps it should not be a factor... At the same time they could put a 12ay7 in the tweed deluxe 5e3 and the EC tremolux.
How loud?
It's loud....if you use it in a small club or your garage especially. If your drummer is a heavy hitter, you can crank it up to get the dirt and keep up volume - wise. If your drummer is NOT a heavy hitter, you will need an overdrive pedal or an attenuator.
The original's are point to point hand wired, that's one major reason they have that great sound. These re-issues are made with printed circuit boards and and they don't sound the same. Ever. Fender should make a Custom Shop Point to Point series. That would be awesome!!!.
This one is hand wired point to point
They aren't going to be able to make them like a '57 unless you can spend 15K on an amp... this is as close as you'll get without having it handmade.
sounds and looks good to me... but I can only afford a Peavey Delta...
Same amp with 12" speaker and effects loop - INNOVATE ;)
Great ! but ...Tweed Not Lacquered ?!! Come on !
So wait, the last name of the main designer is Marshall?
It's nice, but the price is way too high for me...
frozen people at 6:00
So um, Sam Marshall works at Fender?
czcams.com/video/qcFwTvuw_RI/video.html
1954 BM with 1-15" sounds better though
So Fender's Principal Engineer is a guy named Marshall? Anyopne else find this kinda funny?
Let me try and excercise my psychic powers here: In a few years time the Bandmaster will be fitted with a tremolo circuit, an EC badge and some of the proceede will end up in said person's pocket! :P
I just purchased a Fender Super Reverb 70's model. It came w/o any speakers but I plugged in a cab so it does work. I saw the speaker harness on the Fender site but that is for One speaker. I have never hooked up an amp like this so don't laugh too hard. How do I hook up the replacement speakers? buy 4 harnesses and splice them together? What 10 in. speaker suggestions does anybody have? I do not want any Ice Pick Highs :-) I saw one from Eminence that sounded good but I open to suggestions. I like a cranked Blues tone.
Is it just me, or did the old beat-up one sound 100x better than the new one? Talk about going backwards...
Unleash Brian Setzer on that baby...
If they change the "formula" then its not a Bandmaster. Its a "vintage vibe" Bandmaster. Ugh. And its $3k. That is why I decided to build my own amp with a MOJO kit.
Notice how most of them are playing Telecasters? Just sayin...
Too much filtering means stiff flat sound, it should be on the verge of ghosting in these amps!
I do not think they went overboard with the filtering.. I think the three original 16µf caps are replaced with modern illnios caps that are 22µf/500V caps.. Not a big jump... They kept the most important part and that is a small sprague 8µf/450V filtering V1 and V2. Overfiltering preamp and PI stages are a sin..
But Fender also makes an error of putting in a 12ax7 in V1,, it should be a 12ay7,, a tube with much lower gain and a slightly different tonality..
And he looks like Bill Gates :D
Cool amp but the demo doesn't really show it off very well. Get Pete Townshend in there with a '59 Gretsch and give him free rein.
Gender should make a reissue of the Blackface Bandmaster.
***** that's racist, man!
lel
why? the originals are a dime a dozen. you could buy a vintage BF bandmaster for less than what a reissue would cost.
$500 blackface Bassman head next please? *pouty face*
Forget your concept about adapting this amp to this century. If you do that you should not call it a Bandmaster. You could call it the Liarmaster, Creditcardcharger, or my personal favorite, The BullShitmaster. Fender, I used to love you, but you get no more of my money with these fakeout amps that are so lacking, and overpriced, that you have to reference Townsend before you even turn the amp on for demo. Of course you were smart to show the Gretch, a Fender owned company, Clever but no sale.
shut up and take my money!👋
+Isaac Johnson Well,not so fast bro...this sh*t is $2500 ffs
The Main designer looks like Bill Gates.
sounds like a lunchbox
You have a bloody well sounding lunchbox
