I found a piece of labradorite that's almost lavender in color and a friend is making it into a ring for me. I love what you do!

Save your fingertips, and reduce time lost to flying stones: Flatten the back, and clean off all traces of saw oil. Acquire a golf tee. (Cheap at Canadian Tire.) Blunt the pointy end. Wood glue the other end to the flat back. Let dry overnight. Coat with clear nail polish, and recoat, covering all glue. Then enjoy how much easier and quicker it is to handle the stone. Soak in water overnight, twist off the tee with pliers. Polish back if you have to. You are doing great work. Thanks for sharing. Find me at a show sometime if you want to yak about cabbing. Thanks TJ :) I switch it up and sometimes use a dop stick. I bought doweling of all different widths and they do work well at times. I find you have a lot more control without a stick (at least for me), but the smaller stones you have no choice. Only really one fingertip incident when I was first starting out, learned from it I guess haha. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for posting this, great demo example. Love the fact that you used minimal equipment and simple approach to creating some beautiful jewellery. Lucky I found this just after acquiring saw, flat lap, and felt buffing wheel. My next project is Labradorite that I just purchased at last Gem and Mineral Show attended. Almost as if you just created it for me.

The Silver Cab setting you used is what I would like to find. Can you please share source or where to purchase? Love the custom look it gives and not standard Template oval.

Thanks for watching! Nice timing now that you now have all the equipment. It can be tricky at first getting used to a flat lap, but once you get the hang of it you can crank out some nice cabbs!

There are many suppliers both in the U.S. and Canada. We order from a few places depending on price. One thing to make sure of is that the settings are genuine .925 Silver and not Silver plated from Eastern Countries.

Very nice presentation from start to finish! Glad I found your channel (9/1/2020) as I really enjoyed jewelry class in High School and looking forward to taking it up now in retirement. How long did it take you to be able to master grinding/polishing gems so nicely?
I look forward to investigating your past videos and you got a new subscriber today 👍 Cheers from Seattle!

Appreciate the kind words Alex, thank you! It didn't take too long to get my first good stone, there are many that didn't make it along the way but was practice material anyway so all good. Best thing to do is keep checking the stone until you get a handle on how much comes off with any given disk. It's very rewarding after the polish, and inspiring for the next one :) Thanks for watching and subscribing!

I make a lot of Labradorite jewelry, often wire wrapping. I have recieved quite a few with a green residue. I was told it was their polishing agent. I am not sure if I can put a picture on, but it looks like a clear open spot has appeared on some of them. I wonder if the person I bought most of my labs from were doing something sneaky? Or did this happen because they were stored with other labs? Or did I damge them moving them around? I like to look through them for inspiration. I have been keeping them with my moonstones and most in little plastic bags. I love these so much I collect too. So I embarrassingly have 100`s of them (I feel like a dragon over them lol). Sometimes I just use jewelers glue and put on a bail. This new problem is really stressing me out. Also I had holes drilled in some and it did not do this to those. I would love advice...

DarkSun Jewelry - Much bulk overseas labradorite is polished with chrome oxide. Could be a hard, waxy buffing material like Zam. Soap and a stiff toothbrush should remove it. An ultrasonic cleaner is another option. A good lapidary will leave no trace of polish. Best to buy cut stones in person. If the online seller is offering something too good to be real... beware.
