    The harmonies you mention were normani’s own vocals stacked. She did it herself!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾

    Well aesthetically ig ppl can say she maybe don’t know who she is . But musically I think she knows exactly what she wants to do whether she is comfortable with some of the music. I don’t think Normani wants to be put in a box. She wants to do any genre she feels comfortable doing . I think essentially she’s always going to give us a variety BUT I do think she’s letting black ppl get in her head and tell her she needs to do r&b bc she’s black and she’s too pop. I know she grew up on r&b and it’s in her but I do think she could be a great pop star . I want her to have it all and succeed with that

      @@TreAzzBad I don’t want her to be in a box. I heard her say that she loves R&b the most. I actually love motivation and checklist. I just believe that her voice really shines when she does R&b. I believe that her album will have a lot of different sounds. I just love R&b and I love when she sing it!!

      @@greateatsnomeats8830 I love r&b and I love her voice on it as well. But I’ve been a fan since 2012 . She’s always said she loves r&b but she also has said she wanted to do both pop and r&b and then she’d say she just want to not be in a box. She recently just started shying away from wanting to do pop and I think it’s bc ppl try to put her in a box and act like bc she’s black that’s what she should do

    timberland didn’t produce it but he did react to it and loved what normani did to it. aaliyah’s brother posted on his instagram stories that he loved it too. i consider wild side as r&b and normani has stated she’s genreless so she’s very versatile and can tap into all genres which is why she doesn’t really label herself as a pop or rnb artist
    also normani not putting out an album has nothing to do with the label putting her in the back burner. normani has stated several times that she gets in her own way and is a perfectionist. plus she was dealing with a lot behind the scenes like her mom’s breast cancer coming back. so she took that time to work endlessly finishing her album cause she wanted it to be perfect and it was a lot of pressure on her. plus she didn’t really like motivation which is why she didn’t promote it.

      Normani is everything! I don’t think she’s a mediocre artist at all. She’s been doing this for years and it’s evident in how she performs. I think she’s already received nods from Janet and Beyoncé’s (not to say that validates her) but it definitely reinforces the talent that she has! 👌🏾💯 yeah her label could do better with marketing and consistency in her releases, they are too spread out.

    Am so glad I came across your reaction. Now word has it that this song has been blocked in some regions because of copyright issues. Some people are claiming Aaliyah's family had not given Normani permission to sample the song BUT I saw Timbaland listening to Normani's version and he said he was impressed with what he heard. So my question is who owns a sample, is it the producer (in this case Timbaland made the beat) or is it the singer? My research shows that Aaliyah did not even pen a word on that song, Missy and Timbaland created everything.

    Can you react to chole bailey feeling good performance or her making the song

  • @hennyondatube3133
    @hennyondatube3133 Před 3 lety +2

    I was confused as to whether that "trill" present in her vocals on the bridge was pitch correction or an actual slide technique she's applying. I've heard it on a live performance and it's present in the Sam Smith collab as well as that scrapped Dua project that was leaked forever ago. And she more or less sounds identical on that Genius Verified video too. A fuller sound on the record because of production but the way she uses her instrument sounded identical. EDIT: I was zooted earlier but I meant to make the point that the prominent "trill" on the chorus and bridge could be really tight vocal stacks if she's applying that technique each time to build a fuller sound? So the effect after sounds sorta uncanny (but still suits the song IMO, it's a lot of ear candy as you said)

    • @hennyondatube3133
      @hennyondatube3133 Před 3 lety

      In a lot of ways I see her singing in a similar way to SZA and Brandy where they can take a note and kinda smear it around the palette with that smokier tone. I'm excited to see her develop that, especially with producers like Starrah and Jonah. They ate that shit up as a collective haha

  • @tiaraw872
    @tiaraw872 Před 3 lety +11

    This song sounds nothing of pop related. Straight hip hop & r&b. This literally is Aaliyahs beat, & it didn’t sound like a pop song back then either

    • @kojikali3381
      @kojikali3381  Před 3 lety +9

      The sound itself is definitely r&b. I am fully aware of that. But her as an artist, she creates pop music “Popular music” that is consumed by the masses. When you’re labeled as a pop artist, it means that you appeal to every demographic across the board. But to be labeled as an r&b artist actually very limiting to her audience. Especially since she comes from a “pop” background with Fifth Harmony. Check out this article by Rolling Stone as well, where she’s labeled as a pop artist:
