A lot to be said for just watching the trains go by on a basic loop or two.
The fact that such a simple layout can bring pleasure and joy is great for your overall well-being and to unwind after a day at work 🙂

Very much agreed. It's been away for a few days and I already miss being able to do it 🤣

Sam, it's great to see you running your trains again! House moves always take longer than expected and you have to make the most of what you've got. If anything, this layout would be perfect to take to exhibitions with you to show off your weathering projects! Love the plans for it and can't wait to see it progress.

Great idea so you can just run trains. Look forward to seeing how the scenics come along

That’s an awesome idea! Sometimes you just want to sit back and watch your engines run. Looking forward to future updates 😎

This is perfect for you and your situation Sam, I don’t think one can understate the importance of just being able to run a train 😅 glad you’ve done this. Many happy rotations ahead!!

I am a big fan of compact and simple continious layouts for the purpose of running trains and doing scenic work. I am sure there are far more modellers doing this than complex, multi siding, hidden staging behemoths. The argument made against simple ovals or loops is they become boring after a while. So do big complex layouts. I've been there. However a small layout is up and running in no time. Most importantly, less to go wrong. Come home from a hard day at work and just run the trains. Well done and we need more of this kind of thing. In fact, I am planning a small layout like this myself for a future project.

Nice going Sam. A great solution to not having a permanent layout at the moment

In many ways, what you have created (and indeed the reasons why you have created it) is similar to my table-top diorama in N Gauge - though mine lacks the option to run trains around a loop, something that I’m now looking to rectify and will allow me the simple pleasure of just running some trains 😃

I'd be so interested as to what space you'd need for "4th radius" n gauge! Keep me posting Nick!

Really love this and will be watching with interest. Have a shelf layout in N and have lost the mojo - really miss like you say watching trains “run” rather than stop/starting. You’ve inspired me to do something similar - although could I get a Kato 800 around 4th radius curves? Best of luck with it!!!
