    In this video i'm showing how to make easy and accurate 12 volt battery level indicator circuit using zener diodes, and if you are familiar with zener diodes they work as voltage barrier when used in reverse polarity, and when voltage in circuit reaches more than rated zener voltage, then it pass that excess voltage to another end.
    Same method is used in this circuit when voltage crosses the rated zener voltage then excess voltage passes to other end to which led is connected and then led glows and indicates charge level in battery.

    use 9v, 10v, and 11.1v zener for best monitoring and use.
    Red=900ohms, yellow 750 ohm and Green 680ohms resistor for leds brightness and safety consumption.

    Great that you have added a circuit diagram ! .... the 12 Volt battery charge ( float ) voltage is 14 Volts ( and NEVER higher ! ) , maybe an additional BLUE LED could be fitted with suitable voltage Zener to indicate charger is maintaining the battery at 13.8 to 14 Volts ? ? ...... DAVE™ ........

    fica melhor adicionar um Blinking LED + 12v zener, pra indicar 15v em carregamento, trocaria o led de 9v por 8v e o de 8v por 7,5v "ou 6v".

    good job but... is better to test battery under load.. just place a resistor (of correct power) in parallel with your circuit to have a real test.

    Can I ask please, what is a battery meter actually measuring?
    I ask because I asked a company I’ve just bought one from whether it was a simple to read voltmeter/ammeter but with a % indicator. But they said it wasn’t.
    But your demonstration suggests it is a voltmeter! Or is it to do with ohms?

      It has to do with the voltage drop across each LED. LEDs have a posted voltage drop usually around 2 V for red LED, and the other colours can have 3 or 3.5 volt drop. When your battery has too low of a voltage you do not have enough Voltage to light all LEDs. Therefore the LED with the highest Voltage Drop will go out first and then the next one with the highest voltage drop. So you are monitoring voltage. Check your LED voltage drop with your multi meter. Just take your LED (with no power - before you add it to the circuit) and set your meter to the DIODE reading and connect the meter leads across the diode and you will get a reading in volts. This will be the voltage drop for each colour of your LEDs. Remember LED stands for Light Emitting Diode (so it is just a diode). He is using ZENER diodes to accomplish the same thing. You could just use a regular diode to protect the circuit rather than using the zeners to shut the LEDS off.

    8v and 9v zener diode is not availabe but 8.2v and 9.1v zener diode is available in market it can work accurate

    Can you do a video on a battery meter circuit for 3 - 3.7V lithium ion batteries in series for a 12.6V battery. Most videos I have seen are for lead acid batteries in 12V I wish to see this for lithium ion 12V battery. Thank you.

      There the lowest will be 11v where the battery is actually empty, and overdraining it will cause battery to get dead, so it should be maintained as 11v empty & 13v full.
