He doesn't sound like a fit parent, so even though it's usually best for a kid to grow up with both parents, in Onision's case, his wife and kid should leave him. Trying to have people chained up in the family basement is not appropriate in a family home where kids are being raised (or anywhere else since it was not some sort of consensual kink play). And it's also not good for a kid to endure guilt-tripping control-freakiness. And his raising of the kid to be a total vegan is both unhealthy and unfair to the kid's normal enjoyment of life.

It completely takes out their enjoyment of life (as a young child I mean, I'm very happy being vegan, but I know that a young child would just want to be normal, examples where they'd miss out are birthday parties, going out, sleepovers etc etc), kids need to be normal and when they're old enough they can choose for themselves. It's not healthy for humans of any age. I used to believe all the health food and veggie myths. From around 1981 until a little over a year ago, I was vegetarian (slightly less long for fish). Then I learned more and more about how a ton more animals are killed as collateral damage during plant harvesting than die during the eating of one large free range or hunted animal, plus all the health myths were shattered by some good science showing stuff like how gut bacteria are actually better when including some meat and other health benefits. For the last few years of doing it, the only remaining reason was being a bit grossed out by the idea eating body parts. But, I realized that I was fine with eggs and milk which is just as gross when you think about it. After a while, I noticed that even my remaining aversion to meat disappeared too. So, on Dec 11, 2015, I figured "what am I doing still being stubborn about this with no good reasons left?" and had my first pork chops in over 3 decades. So tasty!
