About Dead End Hip Hop:
No scripts. It's pure unfiltered hip hop conversations and album reviews. No politics. No BS. We Are The People. - Hudba
someone said Billy Woods raps like he's seen the end times
"Rap like I'm reading off of parchments" - Gilgamesh
"Leviathan swim with jaws open"
He do tho
Why’s this so accurate tho 😂
I like that... a lot. So accurate.
A madlib - armand hammer collab album would be so insanely good
Ohhhh my goodness... 🤯🤯🤯
That would change the game
No joke, billy woods is the best rapper alive. Top 5 all time. Absolutely nobody can put words together to paint a picture like him.
When it’s said and done... woods will be the greatest ever no doubt
Yup Mach El p ka and others are so overlooked
Billy woods and lupe F
I mean alive? No or all time either but billy will def be a top 20 at least
Put some respect on elucid. 😒 They were neck and neck the whole album.
Falling out the sky just confirmed for me that we need an Earl and alchemist album
Alc already confirmed It tho
one day, we'll find it
That confirmed it? They have so many great songs together
I think you got heard, my friend.
AND UNSURPRISINGLY, VOIR DIRE IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF THE YEAR (DEFINITELY MY AOTY)
Haram in arab defines what is bad for you and your health specifically, not only things that are forbidden by the religion, i think that's the deeper theme of the album seeing all the references to self improvement throughout it
@Hussain Drees But these are not forbidden just because it is said so... Haram is forbidden to protect something or someone... as is said in Quran 48:27 "Al Masjid Al Haram" does not mean a place forbidden but one that is under such protection from god that it cannot be attacked.
That is why originally in Quran, food considered haram were fruits that could rot, and animal blood or bodies that would spoil after time. Still in order to protect the individual from outside harm.
That makes complete sense when looking at the hook of Stonefruit - one of the best songs ever in my opinion
Billy woods’ run has been absolutely insane
Underrated
@@Mikeybandz could never be properly rated in this world
Still is -commented 2 years after this one
Billy woods verse on stonefruit.... 😭😭🔥🔥🔥
On the level of Red Dust.
@@aquanecromancer5776 it almost felt like a companion piece to me. They fit so fucking well together. woods has just been on an incredible run.
She dragged the bones home and built a bed
He's scary... so f***ing brilliant.
Armand Hammer and The Alchemist Collaboration was something I definitely needed.
Hell yeah... HipHop needed that.
Yet we had no idea how much we needed it.
Falling out the sky and stonefruit are my shit
Facts
Stonefruit is beautiful
I don't know how ALC keep adapting to his collaborators, it's baffling.
Mastery
He lives in the studio, like literally.
I thought about that to. I’m thinking he spends quite a bit of time with each Rapper/M.C. whether it be the studio or just sitting around drinking or smoking some of the best weed. Alchemist out here like he still got sh*t to prove.
Just like Muggs
@@jayseth yeah, he racks up just as much quality as his godson ALC. He's been on fire since he came back and did all those collabs albums with Crimeapple, Mach/Fahim, Meyhem...
If quelle's feature doesn't give you stank face I don't know what to tell you because it's potent af.
Pig roast who got jokes
Would never have found this mc if not for dehh. He was popping off.
Billy woods verse on falling out the sky is prolly verse of the year to me
Genuflect when I heard the weed price
Stonefruit is my verse of the year for sure. That shit legit left me fucking stunned with how fucking GORGEOUS his imagery was and I went into this already knowing that Billy Woods is a masterclass poet
WHITE BOYS WITH THE WEED PIPES
loved that verse but bruh billy woods verse on wishing bad is on another level
Elucid and Earl killed that song too. One of those tracks that instantly feels nostalgic
The editing job on this video is crisp af. Rod is killing it.
Definitely
Kens pronunciation of chicharrones killed me
chick-a-rone-ies
i wish feefo was there lmao he would had a trip
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He says chick-a-roni like its some chef boyardee shit 🤣
Thing is, Armand didn't have to go for alchemist's sound, rather alchemist morphed himself for armand hammer's sound. It was dope
Totally agree
Echoed in every interview I have read and listened to.
Fantano just had an interview with Alchemist on his channel and they talk about this album yeah this is exactly what Alc says.. Like at first Armand Hammer were expecting just typical Alchemist beats or beats different than what they usually do but instead Alc wanted to adapt his style to theirs.
W
I can’t stop listening to this album man.....
Lol Myke mistaking chicaronnes with churros
Chicharrones* but yes he did XD
😅😅😅
This album was metaphysical. Both MCs delivered impeccable performances and while I’ve always enjoyed Al’s production but this cemented him as a 🐐
Chiccarones is fried pork skins, this is the most accessible project from Armand Hammer and will definitely be in my Yearender list. KeiyaA’s debut dropped last year and it was one of the best soul albums of the year. I love seeing the fellas fan out, Feefo needs expand his ear for catching lyric (sitting this one but showing up for that mainstream nursery rhyme sh*t). My favorite tracks “Black Sunlight”, “Wishing Bad”, “Indian Summer”, “Aubergine” & “Scaffolds”. Dope..that straight drop.
Armand Hammer's production has been the only reason their albums haven't gotten much rotation for me. When I saw this album pop up, I ran to get it. And the Alchemist didn't disappoint. He has given them production that fits their style but is still something that draws me in. This album gets better with each listen. My 5 so far this year.
I still think Paraffin was better produced. The beats on there are absolutely incredible and fit AH's style a bit better imo. This is still aoty so far tho
@@damiaangroenhart4138 Yeah, it's gonna be hard for them to ever top that, in my opinion... but every project of their's is incredible.
Fielded, Quelle Chris, Curly Castro, and Earl all went da heck off on they're features I'd love this album. Pretty much you guys touched on everything I've had pondered the thought. The biblical quotes, Taboo stuff, the way they throw crazy lines. Smoke and fires like a sound I've have a New name even The Colonizers can't pronounce.
Billy even had some obscure philosophy references, in wishing bad “a thousand plateaus, a constellation of prisons” is a nod to Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari’s book and A Thousand Plateaus and then he mentions Michel Foucault in like the next bar, who wrote a book called “Discipline and Punish”. It’s wild.
I am glad they are getting more clout too. When History Will Absolve Me dropped, I was instantly hooked. Been following pretty close since, great just seeing the scene acknowledge them with the collabs on the last two albums.
If we get KA on a Armand Hammer track one day, we need to be prepared to decipher every single fucking line down to the letter! ha!
Yep, I would love to hear a Roc feature like History will absolve me.
Myke the Kid C Town and the crew back again yall 💯
pretty awesome album reviewed by some pretty awesome guys
Album of the year with extreme ease
Way too early gtfo
@@Noirlore what else is coming this year that can compare?
@@liquidpebbles7475 we’ll see. Plenty of time
@@liquidpebbles7475 Pusha T dropping
@@liquidpebbles7475 lmao it’s literally April. Last year, alchemist did 3 different projects with boldly, Conway and Gibbs that all were considered Album of the year when they were released. Patience fam, we still got 8 more months 😂
I’ve damn near watched this 5 times. I get so excited when I play it and need yall to get hype w me lmfao
I know, I need to share Armand Hammer with people, but I don't know anybody messin with this so I just relisted to the fellas at dehh 😄
Dawg this is exactly how I feel. I keep coming back to this review, I just enjoy the love they have for this album and it just makes me love it more
I love the love alchemist gets from DEHH, you need to interview him again since how far you both have come from your last interview.
Shout out to Rod for gettin these videos out 👌🏾
album of the year. woods is my favorite rapper in the game (no slight to ELUCID) and im really hopin this collab gives them the shine they deserve.
Shit man Elucid been putin in work lately. I can't say there's a superior rapper in Armand Hammer but I get what you mean. Billy definitely got an amazing solo discography as well.
@@milesb9191 i don't think one is superior either, it's just my preference from listenin to woods discog (like u mentioned) and ignorance when it comes to ELUCID. woods' music means a lot to me and i think that with age he's going to become a legend. like, DOOM level shit (i see that profile pic lol). i mean, i've read books because 1 line in a woods' track caught my ear and i wanted to know more. dude's music is like a fuckin resource, man, full of knowledge and straight up skill. no other artist has like... accelerated my interest in foreign policy, for example. he just has a way about him that no one else can match, even if the subject matter overlaps. maybe im sleepin on ELUCID, which is a crime given how much i fuckin love him and Armand Hammer in general. ima rectify this and listen to more of the homie's solo shit asap.
i could write about this shit forever but ima cut myself off lol
@@FOUL_TROUBLE @FOUL TROUBLE Yeah I'm a Philosophy and Poetry nerd so I was blown away when I heard History Will Absolve me a little late around 2012. The reason it even caught my attention was because of the Castro reference in title. Just on this project alone I'm pretty sure I caught references to Foucault, Deleuze, Austin, Guattari and Arendt so you aren't lying when you say he's well read. It's super rare to see an openly Marxist perspective in hip hop so I find Billy super refreshing. Really reminds me of the early 2000s underground leftist hip hop I heard growing up around Miami.
@@milesb9191 a man after my own heart, hell yeah. also a marxist but less well read on philosophy, i only caught the Foucault line. started with philosophy and moved into political theory and woods' is like a north star for this shit. also that's strange, the castro reference in history will absolve me was what caught my eye too and i remember thinking "who the fuck is naming their record after a fidel speech?" and it's been all uphill since then. i mean you could teach a course on bush era US using only bars from Known Unknowns lol. speaking of - that line "shorted em like bear sterns" talkin bout a drug deal - i fuckin laughed out loud. woods, man.
They deserve a _LOT_ of shine, after dropping years of joints!
Best album of the year so far
Wow man this album has got me hooked in a way that Griselda hooked me when I first found out about them. Dude literally non stop repetition of this album. I love it
That's how their 2018 album, _Paraffin,_ was for me... I discovered them, and Griselda, thru _Supreme Blientele,_ right around the same time. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of them as related, as far as how addictive they are. 2018 was a great year!
@@Jimmy1982Playlists Yeah for real dude, Supreme Bilentele put me on everything. Same goes for Roc Marciano when he dropped Behold A Dark Horse. All these guys gave me hope for the rap game again🔥 and then you got people like Hus Kingpin, Mach Hommy, Jay Nice, bra the list keeps going. Underground hip hop is in good hands rn
When I listened to the album last week I said DEHH is going to love this album. Love this album.
This album is truly fantastic imo. I haven’t been stunned by this level of artistry and vision from a new music release in a long fucking time. I can’t stop finding something new that makes the album even more complex and thorough. Truly a work of art.
Damn got this review in before melon they need an award for that!
more ppl need to talk about billy woods verse on Wishing Bad and how the concept of Chicharrones is connected to wishing bad and the whole album theme
You guys were quick asf with this one!! Haven’t even gotten to listen to this album yet but I’m here to catch this review before I do 🔥 DEHH/Dead End Studios 2021 is on fire
People who dont have the energy or dont make the time to appreciate language and its beauty really miss out on music like this. Like they said, from the get go Billy Woods was painting that beat, fuck! "I asked a question just to see it in your face, I already know the answer never mattered". I wanna bump this album again, and again lol
I truly believe Armand Hammer carry Cannibal Ox' legacy really well
Been waiting for this review since the DEHH 10th Anniversary Livestream
This is the best reveiw made me feel like a kid watchin and got me geeked for the album and it didnt dissapoint, now im listening to billy woods, yall are the best music discovery hip hop channel. Thanks.
Yes I was hoping you guys would review this
This album is absolutely awe inspiring and I am eagerly awaiting the next thing that they do. Fuckin impeccable work
Unbelievable album. Excited to listen further. Great convo y'all.
Kinda crazy that Earl talked about Kobe’s death on a song called “falling out of the sky”
Shout out to yall, and the beats yall use for these reviews! These joints smooth asf. 👍
Interested to hear your guys thoughts! I thought this was a really complex album and it feels like will take a while to deconstruct everything for myself. But it’s soooo enjoyable to listen to
Oh wow dehh beat Anthony Fantano to a review!? This is truly a bizarre time
These guys are dope. Fantano is not.
@@arress2052 I will not dispute this.
It's just gone April and I can't envisage anything topping this tbh. Absolute perfection 👌 I knew it was going to be special. I didn't realise it was going to be this special.
I know I'm gonna sound mental. But I'm gonna say it anyway! Watch out for this album being one of the most important and hailed a genuine classic of the decade. Woods has one of the best discographies in Hip Hop. Period!
Hell yeah was waiting on this one!
Been waiting for this one💪💪
no one put stonefruit on their favorite tracks??? i know they wouldve put the whole record on there if they could but daaaaaaamn.
You guys have touched on everything. Thank you for putting me on. I think Ken and Mike had them in album of the year maybe paraffin. I didn’t get them at first but shrines was amazing and I went back paraffin is amazing. These 2 mcs are something special for the reasons mentioned in this video. The Alchemist.....has twisted me with the range of production. Ridiculous.
Real talk - these guys put me on back with _Paraffin;_ right around the time they put me on to _Supreme Blientele_ (God bless y'all!)...
Been loving all the woods & Elucid-related projects ever since.
Don't sleep on Rome! Armand Hammer never miss.
@@aquanecromancer5776 They don't your right Billy woods is on a tear.
@@aquanecromancer5776 i got you... They dont miss... But in relation to how Alchemist got pulled into the armand hammer world... He referenced the production on paraffin. To be honest up until a month ago i was probably playing rome more alongside shrines. These brothers just have top quality records. I hadnt tapped into E L U C I D's solo work. So only just started delving into that. Woods... He been on a run, just glad i didnt catch it too late. The record with moor mother, (Brass) is another work of great writing and production.
words can’t empathize how much i love this album. such a great listen from start to finish. A mordern classic
We were truly blessed with this album. They made something really special.
They always do. This is really beautiful tho...
I listened to this for 4 days strait on greyhound. This album hits like a train
Y’all should have an Alchemist week on DE365. I think there are hella projects of his y’all would love and I would love to hear what y’all have to say!
Great album and you guys are the best Hip Hop reviewers, hands down.
i was coming to your channel to ask you to review this new Armand Hammer project. Album of year candidate for me
Armand Hammer are still so fuckin under appreciated in the hip hop community though, another AOTY which will fly under most people’s radar.
Not after fantano brands this with a 9
Uncle Al beats in the 1st 5-6 tracks made my face melt...gotdamn this is an incredible album
yooo this is pretty fast for Armand Hammer
Ong im still trying to wrap my head around this joint🙆🏾♂️
That 3 track stretch from track 2-4 is my favorite so far man
Nah man billy woods verse on stonefruit. Just beautiful omgahd
Feel like falling out the sky was looked over. That song is gorgeous.
You guys need to review Navy Blue asap
Sir Benni Miles..Black Sunlight..Peppertree and Squeegee is my favorites.
That reference to the Bamian buddhas gets me every time.
stonefruit is my drunk-in-the-shower song.
Just heard this morning phenomenal album
This album is such greatness, I hope Al starts working with underground dudes more like this now, that would be amazing to see
Lol He's Been Working With Underground Dudes for Over 20 Years.
@@nicosekano5942 yeah I think he grew up with Evidence from Dilated Peoples one of the biggest underground hip hop groups in the late 90s lol
damn that was fast i still feel like I'm getting into the album multiple listens in
Right? One of the denser albums in a while
This will be one of the albums of the year for sure. I absolutely love every track except for the outro.
I really gotta try and take this in because it's all stuff I can't comprehend flow wise whatsoever
This album is incredible man, I still prefer Paraffin a little bit but what they made here is so special
Same here, I think this is their second best album. Love this group!
@@rainman415 I've been replaying this since it came out, Billy & Elucid snapped on this record. There so many quotable; lines that made me pause like Just DAMN!
@@intelligencecycle3523 I feel you, every album they release is like studying for a test lol.
Indian Summer makes me want to take shrooms and just trip out haha
Myke is picking the favourite songs like someone would pick food from a menu in a restaurent
still playing this album rn
This album was borderline amazing from top to bottom. Armand Hammer and The Alchemist mesh together perfectly. Y'all should review AJ Suede - Darth Sueder VI.
Ya I played this album in my car and didn't really know what I thought. Had the windows open for my dogs though... Then I got home and it stayed on repeat for about 5 hours straight lollll. Honestly, an amazing album and Quelle Chris just went the fuck off on this.
You...gentlemen..know exactly what you're talking about. 💪 review.
Mad replay value, these guys are fucking dope.
Roaches Don't Fly is naaasty. The beat reminds me of The Rock's entrance theme.
Myke was thinking of churros at 8:35
YES!!! Haha.
So glad y’all didn’t put Feefo in this 😂
This project is craaaazy!!!at first i didnt get it of the rip after a few listens im like...hold on...replay.these guys r diferent!!its like i keep catching up with bars that went over my head hahh alchemist once again went bananas!!!!
Album of the year so far for me. I’m probably on my 50th listen now and it gets better every time
This album was great The Alchemist is a fool with this production
Quelle Chris & Earl Sweatshirt’s features 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
CURLEY CASTRO too!
Intro beat was fire lol
Somehow an album between armand hammer + alchemist was so unpredictable yet makes perfect sense
Alchemist is objective top5 of all time. How can you argue against? No producer been this consistent this long with this range.
I think it’s (theme of the album) mostly references the system of policing that we’re all under and the results of that. Whether it be from the cops, literal prison (Wishing bad) society (Indian Summer), religion, or our own minds (Chicarones).
Quelle Chris' verse was 🔥 🔥 🔥. I've never heard a verse that crazy from him.
Top 3 of the year for me so far👌
Feefo straight up didn't pull up lmaoo
I have to listen to this album again it has to grow on me
Alchemist really put his ass in these beats.
LETS GOOOOO!!!
Gave it a couple listens wasnt really feeling majority of the album ill go back to it down the road wasnt really in the mood for this type of sound currently. I love Earl and Quelle
A Masterpiece, through and through.
15:16. Can someone tell me what billy woods was saying on chicharrones. Like the “they wanna use force line”?
billy woods was pointing out the irony of someone who hates the cops but acts like one when they see someone shady. billy was also saying "you need to kill the cop in your head" as a way to cleanse your mind of false judgement.
@@CIB8282 yeh i just figured it out, as i believe, right before you responded. This is so good of a line and really good writing. When i finally grasped what he was saying it hit me like a fukin wave lol
