Unfortunately, he also directed the 2004 Thunderbirds movie. After that flopped, it kinda torpedoed his directorial career. Unjustifiably so. That film's problem was the writing, not the direction.
@@WildNorWesterpretty sure he is still directing. Small things like discovery, Star Trek strange new worlds, Picard episodes. You know nothing big just little things.
So I just realized that while the women were fighting on the planet for freedom the acting captain on the Orville was a female too fighting for their ship. Don’t know if that was planned but still cool.
@@AlwaysBolttheBird "Perhaps it’s fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression or persecution, but from annihilation."
Damn does Frakes know how to direct exciting action scenes. The camera movement on the internal shots starting at 1:41 is a great example - rather than just static reaction shots you get this great sweeping move that adds a lot of energy to the scene.
I admit I didn't watch The Orville for a while because I worried about Seth turning my beloved Star Trek into a Family Guy show. I was happily surprised that he seemed to have taken a more serious tone with the show. It's fantastic and I hope they can successfully fight for a season 4. Season 3 was a massive upgrade already in terms of quality.
So... Dolly Parton was the Francis Scott Key of the Mocclan Women Rebellion. All we need is a time travel episode so she can visit. Please Dolly, that would be awesome!
Space....The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Orville. Its continuing mission: To explore strange new galaxies following Gene Roddenberry's visions. To seek first contacts with new civilizations while having lots of fun. To boldly go where no Trek has gone before!
This is when The Orville transcended itself as an homage to Trek and solidified itself as a unique show
Although strangely enough, Jonathan Frakes directed this hilarious scene
Best season 2 episode
I love that it’s not a parody of Star Trek, but just what Star Trek would be if it was written as a comedy.
@@xanderfulton3186 And not just because of this scene.
id say that was about halfway through the first season whenthe krill first eneterd the show :p
"She speaks with the might of a hundred warriors"
Millions
AND I WAS THE 100TH LIKE RAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!
Before this episode, I never considered "9 to 5" as fight scene music.
Totally works thogh!
This and Deadpool 2.
This is even better than "Freebird" during the church fight in Kingsman...
That's what I thought was so funny.
clearly you've never seen Deadpool
this is an iconic moment in sci fi history
It really is, it pushed this show a level of real and not parody
Between this and Deadpool, apparently 9-5 works really well for action scenes.
My favorite lines in the episode:
"Have you done this before"
"Nope"
"Should I be worried"
"Yep"
That was in a different episode
@@Gradient14 - I forgot myself on that one. I went back and checked and forgot to update here.
@@danielmarinucci9342 no problemo. Good to meet another fan!
@@Gradient14 I mean tbf, that's Gordon 80% of the time he's flying.
"Do you think if dolly parton could see us she would be proud of us?"
"Oh yeah :)"
Honestly solidified my already devoted fan-ship (is that a word) for The Orville. I love that there’s finally a classic Star Trek back on tv!
Sameee but Orville was so funny I wish they would make another series
In the history of it shouldn't work but it does, this episode an 9-5 understood the assignment.
I remember being blown away by this. Having 9 to 5 being set to a scifi space battle was the one thing I never knew I always needed.
Jonathon Frakes dir this episode and the "First Contact" movie. I wish he would direct more often. he's really good at it.

J Frakes: “I’m going to give Dolly a pleasant surprise when she wakes up in the morning after this episode airs!”

Not just for freedom as we normally understand it, but their very right to exist.
@@danielhaire6677 that’s a very good point to make. I guess I meant “freedom to exist” but “right to exist” is definitely more fitting
@@AlwaysBolttheBird "Perhaps it’s fate that today is the 4th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression or persecution, but from annihilation."
This scene got me so freaking pumped.
9 to 5 does that 😂
Best gun fight scene ever!! 🔫

Go Dolly! I would have never guessed this song would work but it’s perfect
“Go Dolly”
"Waiting for the day your ship will come in" = USS Orville
Man Kelly and bortus just weant John wick mode I love this show
“Typical guy never listens” 😂 lol
I came back to see this bad ass scene.
Gun fight and a space battle with Dolly Parton's best song. God I love the Orville.
God I love this show. Almost threw rewatching it and I already want to do it again!
bordis says lets get some lol I love this tv series i like how casually isacc is giving ship damage reports hehe

I noticed this in the episode with the Keylons and Isaac. And then this episode came up and it's where Orville became standalone for me.
The Orville had its ups and downs, but damn, this was inspired.:)

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY THO
“she speaks with the night of a hundred warriors!”
Space....The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Orville. Its continuing mission: To explore strange new galaxies following Gene Roddenberry's visions. To seek first contacts with new civilizations while having lots of fun. To boldly go where no Trek has gone before!
She sings with the might of 100 soldiers!
I still want season four to happen already come on 💚💯😎
One of the greatest scenes in modern sci fi lol
Issac: Hull damage in decks D and E.
Enterprise writers: Don't you mean C, D and E?
Epic scene. Miss the show
Moclan Amazons. Gotta respect that
Sings working 9 to 5
This should NOT have worked as well as it did!
galaxy quest is best of star trek movies
the orville is best of star trek series
Bortus was ready to throw down.
Fr Bortus got hands
That and I think that's the only time in the whole show we see him actually fight which is strange for a warrior race
Wonderful nod to TWOK!!!!!!
and these blast points to accurate for sand people, only male moclan are so precis. i understand why, but not one could hit are main two characters
2MCs were aiming with the sights while the Moclans were charging and shooting from the hip as if they were Russian infantry conscripts.
I find Dolly Parton to be massively overrated and idolized, but damn if this song wasn't perfect for this scene.
she’s the closest thing America has to a queen lmao
@@youngstacker0493 and you just proved my point.
I have been watching The Oval on Google Play movies and I can honestly say it beats Star Trek discovery 100%.
