Renato Canova (Shaheen's Coach) was worried about Kemboi final speed so he asked the second runner from Qatar to start the race very fast : 2'35 for the 1st 1000m (7'45 pace so way below WR) so that nobody but Shaheen would follow him. Then Shaeen had to run 2nd 1000 in 2'45 while Kemboi would run in 2'35 to reach him. And when Kemboi would come back, the plan was that Shaheen accelarate again when Kemboi is tired by the effort of coming back. First 2kms happened exactly according to plan but then when Kemboi came back, Shaheen decided to slow down a lot instead of accelerating. After the race, when Canova ask Shaheen why he did this, Shaheen said : "you were afraid of Kemboi speed, I wanted to show you who is the fastest in the last 400m". Another funny thing is when a journalist tried to bother Shaheen asking why he did not sing the Qatar anthem on the podium, Shaheen answered "I came here to run and win, not sing".
