Started listening to SBE/GTB/SG when I was 19/20? Was early 2015 so about a year after Gluee was dropped. None of their videos really had any traction except Lean - Hurt, Ginseng Strip etc. Still can't believe how new and different it all sounded, such a fresh sound but not many people gave it a go, you'd play it to anyone else and you'd get ridiculed. They were still at that stage of first listen and you'd hate it but give it a couple of days and it would slowly unravel in your brain and you'd love it. Drained pretty heavily for ages, saw him live and had the time of my life, was a daily listen until I was 24 or so and then I slowly just phased out, couldn't quite identify with the angst anymore - life got better? Hard to say, maybe I just matured. I'm nearly 27 and my life and outlook has changed so much since then, it's nearly impossible to explain. I haven't really listened to Bladee in a while, except for a periodic front-to-back revisiting of Eversince, which will forever be a classic. This came up in my recommended the other night and I decided to have a listen, mainly because I was like what ungodly compilation will a GlueeII have? I'm glad I did because it really felt like I rediscovered Bladee, I haven't heard some of these songs since I first developed my obsession so long ago. Bladee's early magic just can't be recreated, everything sounds and feels glossy, almost synaesthesia from the album cover into sound; his early stuff looked how it felt - chrome, bright and futuristic. Glad I had a listen because this really transported me back. Might have to listen to Gluee now, too. Interestingly, this tracklist is essentially Rainworld, a concept/project he was super into and was going to release (even released ultra limited hoodies) but never did. Glad we still got it in some way/shape/form. Still a travesty that cashinmyjeans was never released (or everything can go) but that's life. Not sure why I wrote this essay but that's just how the nostalgia kicks! Wonder what we'll be like when 40+! Hahaha
man you gotta bump some of bladees contemporary work! For me, I think his transition from some of the gloomiest, depressive music ever made in his early works to the spiritual optimism he exudes on albums like Exeter, The Fool or Crest is such a major change in sound and atmosphere, but he's one of the rare artists to transition so naturally into such new territories. Bladee is truly one of the most important and interesting artists of our time, and its such a shame his sounds are so out there and off-putting at first for many.
I remember walking too school and getting a notification from soundcloud saying bladee dropped his new album "glue II" i got too school and listened with the homies. RIP too my based boys
