    The almost brand new EA SPORTS™ WRC is the first rally sim that race veteran Codemasters made under Electronic Arts flag. Is it any good? Did it keep or abandon the pedigree of DiRT series? Let's talk about it.

    "How do I like this game? Much! Thank you, good bye." There are so many 10 to 20 minute videos just like this that have one uninformative sentence. Good one! 😂
    FFB feels like it's either On or OFF. Like the tire slip. Once the tire slips, the wheel vibrates, much like the motors in a joystick. The intensity is always the same. The suspension setting (vibrations you feel on gravel) also seems to be "canned" or just a scripted vibration. I think they catered to the majority of EA Sport's joystick demographic. Hardcore sim snobs shouldn't be hanging out here and complaining. It is EA Sports, after all.

      I guess the fact that I'm not a native English speaker helps to pop up things like that. You know, the "Thank you very many" sort of things. Chris who helped to start this channel was well-composed and his reviews were like tiny essays with an ample of lexical knowledge. I'm quite the opposite, a "start the recorded and let's see what will happen" sort of guy. I have a bunch of key points before pushing the REC button but that's all. I have no idea of where it goes afterwards.
      True, EA Sports is for a much broader audience than HC sim guys. I'm quite far from the "I'm élite" way of thinking so I have no problems to drive a game that is not a sim. Maybe that's why, apart from the odd things I listed, I can enjoy EA-WRC. It is just strange to see them acquiring motorsport veterans Codemasters and go that direction after DiRT Rally 2.0 that done it rather right. But on the other hand, Coddies released DiRT 5 that is much more a game than a sim. Not to mention GRID series that is a full arcade experience with functional FFB like The Crew. Well, maybe the direction is not that far anyway.

      I agree on WRC9, also WRC 10 on tarmac is phenomenal. I must admit that considering handling I liked them all from WRC7. Also I must admit that I used only non-DD wheels, a couple of belt-gear-whatever-drive Thrustmasters so far so honestly I have no info about driving EA WRC with a DD wheel.

    Dirt Rally 2.0 Colin McRae Flat Out Pack Is the best Rally game hands down. The real feeling of driving a rally car, the aggressiveness, the sounds. The only thing it needed is more stages on different countries like England, Mexico, Africa, Corsica, etc... and more rally cars like the Toyota Celica for example. Badass game

    • @NPlay64
      @NPlay64  Před 24 dny

      When it comes to race game DLCs, I think I can only agree. Colin is my most favourite rally driver and he was the reason why I started rally sims (well, as long as the likes of CMR1, IRC'97 or Mobil1 RC count as sims, I'm not sure) and his Flat-Out Pack is such a nice homage to him.

      @@NPlay64 from what I gathered from other reviews, the performance was ... not optimal to begin with. VR is ressource hungry. I assume that no VR is better then unusable VR. So they wanted to fix the the performance and then release VR when it is viable to run it. but its just a guess

    • @NPlay64
      @NPlay64  Před 26 dny +1

      @@Tscheche89 That's a pretty good point actually. Most probably that's the reason. On my side, there is no point to go beyond 1080p / 60FPS even in VR. I can't see the difference above because I have an eye condition called aion, some weird dead spot phenomenon that affects stereoscopic view heavily. My eyesight includes some data noise that way so going higher doesn't matter much, I can't turn off the aion filter :)
      But that's just me, a lot of VR user buddies reported motion sickness anything below 90FPS. My rig (R5-3600, RX570) is definitely able to spit it out in DR2 but with EA-Sports WRC the FPS was not nearly there. So sure, without optimising the hell out of this racer, VR would have been problematic.
      I'm really happy to hear that the coming S4 update will include VR. That both means the VR problem solved for my rally-loving friends and I'm happy for them, also it will bring a smoother run of the game overall.

    I like EA WRC but I do feel the career mode is a downgrade from the previous WRC games by KT racing. I do prefer the driving in this EA WRC game compared to those older WRC titles though. Compared to the Dirt rally series I would say EA WRC is more accessible for casual rally gamers and more forgiving. That is not to say the game isn't challenging at times it's just more Dirt Rally lite than Dirt Rally 3.0.

    • @NPlay64
      @NPlay64  Před 18 dny +1

      Sure, KT WRCs had better carreer modes. On handling I can agree what you say personally but one of my real-life rally driver friends keep on saying that the cars behave more realistic on tarmac in WRC10. I have no idea, as I've mentioned in the video I've never driven a real rally car. I can completely agree on the 'lite' opinion, too. Apart from my FFB issue EA-WRC feels to be somewhat padded. You can survive a lot of situations that were a race breaker in DR2. Or DR1, in case. That is not a problem, it just targets a wider audience. As such, it is a much better direction than DiRT 5 for example that was pure arcade. Again, that is not a problem, D5 was fun to play. It is just weird to see the same name as of DiRT Rally 1+2 that were almost hardcore rally sims. Almost, as Richard Burns Rally is a harder nut to crack, not to mention BeamNG.drive that does that on an entirely new level.

      It depends on what you seek in a sim. If you prefer tarmac races, EA WRC is the way to go I think. DR2 is just more my thing and it worked flawlessly right from the beginning. But it's just me, all subjective.

      WRC is an EA Sports game. They are probably a step less realistic than Forza Motorsports or GranTurismo 7. They market to joystickers and consoles. I never expected anything realistic. I expected something akin to their NASCAR game.

      @@virtualawakening2299 Interesting point, I've never considered this detail. Probably that's why my brain suspected something else when I saw Codemasters and EA Sports on the same page. Sure I was wrong, the big fish acquiring the small fish is for bigger hunt and it is a more profitable way to bring the experience to a bigger audience than pleasing a relatively tiny group of sim racer guys. I'm not even sure that I fully belong there as I have some pretty heavy fun driving things like The Crew or BeamNG.Drive, I have cheap gear and definitely don't look down on people who are slower or have less money than me :D

    • @NPlay64

      I guess it is just a matter of preference. I started with CMR1 ages ago and despite that CMR1 and DR2 has not much to do with each other, there was an evolution curve regardless, sequels built upon the previous ones. If someone played Codie rallies as much as I did could develop some sort of feel of them over the years considering handling. Regardless, I must agree on later WRC titles, they feel bloody awesome. So that, considering EA-WRC as I've mentioned doesn't, at least not around the time of creating this video. I'm still struggling with FFB issues.

    • @OneRedKraken

      WRCG has some of the best suspension and overall car weight transfer feel of all the modern rally titles.
      Probably a hot take, but I seriously think WRCG is the closest we got to a modern version of RBR in respect to SOME of the physics. I can initiate drifts with left foot braking/weight transfer alone in WRCG. In EA WRC I'd have to pull the handbrake like I'm turning those weird 8 wheeled buggies that operate like tanks. It's absurd.
      And as much as people raved about Tarmac improvements in EA WRC. I feel like they ended up compressing the transition zone between traction and loss of traction, so it ends up feeling like you either have 100% grip, or you're drifting 100%. Combine that with what I feel to be the ridiculous amounts of power needed to sustain said drifts. It ends feeling really more like an arcade than even a 'simcade' game. Not even going to use the word simulation here.

    • @NPlay64
      @NPlay64  Před 13 dny +1

      @@OneRedKraken That's a great tech analysis. I'm good to go up to WRC10 but have no experience with WRCG. I do have some with the original RBR as well as dinosaurs like GTR2 or GTL. Mods keep it alive and around 10 years ago when I tried to patch it up, it became a mess every time so I dropped it and stuck with the freshly released DR1 and played it along with WRC titles until DR2.0 came out. RBR felt great but it was the same for me as rFactor2: an extremely talented but unstable buggy mess. Perhaps now'days things changed so I should check the 2024 state of RBR. Also I put WRCG on my list.
      As for you, have you tried BeamNG.drive? If yes, what is your opinion about it? Now'days I have an ample of fun with it driving rally stages. At first the balance feels strange compared to anything else but after starting to feel it I'd say I can feel quite a massive chunk of realism here. If I had to name a sort of successor of RBR considering car physics I would choose BeamNG.drive. It's a pity that it fails to take itself seriously and most people regard it as a crash game.
      On tarmac improvement of EA-WRC compared to DR 2.0 considering behaviour I meant it made several steps into the direction of track sims like RR or ACC where vehicles tend to stick to the road hard and drifting is just a possibility that you should avoid. If I keep driving the car this "track mode" in EA-WRC on tarmac it remains stable. In DR2.0 you can drift all over tarmac surfaces and do weight transfer drifts as you feel but it doesn't feel anything like RR, ACC or the like that are tarmac focused sims.
