love these simulator games , another one for the list
A postwar atmosphere would be perfect for this. Like, your hometown was being bombed by Nazis or Japanese in 1940s, after 1945 there are attempts to rebuild the city, but the public transportation remained heavily neglected so people resorted to walking and cars. These GM buses and Peter Witt tram cars were very common in 1950s (Yet the icon of American 1950 city is the PCC for sure).
Also, America was untouched by WW2. Japan had to sail across the Pacific and they just didn't and couldn't have enough fuel for this. Most of postwar renovation were being done in UK, France, and USSR. Moreover, the heaviest damage came not from the Nazi bombings but from the Allied final invasions. Think of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Hiroshima still has Hiroden, and it's an example of a public transportation system that survived WW2. London tramways were closed in 1950s thanks to "Operation Tramaway" which was a crazy fad that thought that light rail is worse than buses because trams cause traffic jams, but it has led to even more traffic jams. Now we have Croydon Tramlink reopened.
