After I read the comments, it seems that there is a similar situation to last year, where fans hope that Baby Lasagna will win the trophy, but then Nemo got it instead (similar to how fan-favorite "Cha Cha Cha" did not win ESC 2023 because of that "queen", even though that song won the public votes...)
But still, I still happy to see Switzerland finally got a ESC trophy after 36 years!

So all your arguments are just invalid… but 10 years ago people made fun of „a bearded lady with a generic bond song“ and probably the homophobic backlash made people tuned in and voted for the symbol and the message she stood represented. 😂
'Throwing shade' would be to criticise, make fun and laugh at Nemo's decision to be adressed as 'they' although he's got a weener as a 'he'. That's 'throwing shade', not saying that the costume is beyond ridiculous and performance not even a lttle exciting.
10 years ago homophobes were making fun of Conchita as a person.
No one is making fun of Nemo as a person but of ridiculous costume that makes no sence or has nothing to do with this song.
The costume is one of reasons Nemo fell from first place. Bookies saw public reaction to it and acted accordingly.
If you have missed it, no one is making fun of Nemo wearing a skirt, which he does (i even think it might be tribute to the horror Celine Dion was wearing in 1988. when she won. If that's true, kudos for that) just of that whatewer this pink thing is.
Nemo brings potential in this costume how exactly? To whom? And potential for what? To wear Jim Henson's houte couture?
We are talking about costume and performance, not about Nemo as a person, even though you tried to make it that way.
Btw. No one has to throw any 'shade', the costume did it already much better and much faster then any person could.

After the rehearsals some of these predictions sound a little obsolete.
For example when he mentioned that Ukraine" lacks that "little bit of magic " needed to win.
Probably from what we have seen that "little bit of magic" will be the staging.
Ukraine is a very STRONG contender to the win, probably much more than Switzerland.

    • @tomislavm8789
      @tomislavm8789 Před měsícem +7

I don't belive that Ukraine will do that good. Their song is monotone as hell. Same two sentences over and over again for 2,5 minutes on boring generic beat. That short operatic attempt to change the monotone voice is not enogh. No staging can push that hard enough to get top 3 of both public and jury which is how they could win.
Neither juries or public will give them enough votes to be first.
Third is the best I think they can get with current performance, after Croatia and Italy. Which one of those two will win depends on how many points will Croatia get from juries.
Italy will probably be in top 4/top 3 with both, so if Croatia lands outside top 5 with juries, Angelina is winner even though Croatia will win public votes.
But I do agree that Switzerland will maybe get to top 5, Netherlands will be lucky to get top 10 with probably 5 points from juries.

I think you are wrong in many ways. Ukraine is indeed strong contender. And please do not underestimate Ukrainian diaspora throughout the world (as this year whole world can vote). Plus, we have seen a great improvement of staging which is one of the best staging this year. We still haven’t seen all the details from Ukrainian staging as the director for this staging was a very talented girl who did videoclips for many celebrities. I think Switzerland and Italy should be aware of their powerful contender Ukraine, cause people seem to underestimate their power a lot 😉

Staging can not make regular song sound unique. Ukraine was first in odds for some time last year, just like this one. Not because the songs were that good, but because it's Ukraine. The moment better songs showed up, they fell down.
Diaspora did not help Tvorchi to get higher then 6th place, even though the song and staging were much better then this year. I belive this year might be the same.
But, this year juries and public also have much more contemporary, better and original songs to give their votes to.
France, Italy, UK, Croatia, Greece, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Denmark (If they get through), even Germany might get more votes from juries.
The costumes are a combination of what Madonna wore in Tel-aviv (metal brest plate, shoulder shield) in different colour, rock as a prop is already used by Serbia few songs before, lyrics are repetative, music is monotone, there's no real culmination of the song beside her walking up the prop (it's almost identical image to soviet era Red army monument 'Victory' in Bratislava, but on bigger scale. google it).
By what's been shown so far, it looks like there was not much thought put in staging or costumes unlike last year when it looked really original and good.
Spain has a horrible singer, but the song is cringe fun and staging is so epic and well thought out that people would not care and will vote for them. Spain and Portugal are the only performances that use those led blocks on ceiling, and they use it excellent. Even her 70's inspired black pants have a good idea behind it and make her stand out from the bright orange-rad backdrop. That's how you make a song pop out of crowd.
As I said before, if this was entry from any other country beside Ukraine, like Moldova or Romania, we would be talking about potential NQ, not winer.

I agree : to follow the longest comment :
One notable difference between Europe and the US in music is our appreciation for humbleness over self-confidence or arrogance and our celebration of virtuosity over immediateness.
While Ukraine could be the most deserving winner due to their unique understanding of Eurovision, France and Switzerland are strong contenders with exportable talents that could elevate Europe's image.Italy is doing Italy and M is for Madonna 🫶🏽
Switzerland, especially, holds the potential to emerge victorious, reflecting our desire for Europe to be associated with top-tier but authentic music.
I also think that other entries, such as those from Malta and Australia, could be dark horses akin to past successes like Rosa Linn or Chanel that may be right on time for a surprise or a revenge win.
Not even mentioning Ireland’s need and ability to hit back and Lithuania’s so long overdue win (I want to marry that language)…

what bothers me from Joost is whole PR about his personal story and traumas, and then song is written by 7 people... SEVEN songwriters are needed to write one personal story? song itself is good, and catchy but because all of hype it looks to me as AGT/BGT/American Idol shows, where you need to sell sad and dramatic story first before you start to sing, so you can fish jury on some empathy .. Bohemian Rhapsody is greatest personal story in history and yet has one single songwriter

People think, just because they love a song it will win, but never try and see through the jury’s or mass public audiences perspective. So many thinking Greece could win now after 1st rehearsals 🤷‍♀️. But they fail to acknowledge the huge amount of people that don’t like the song. I and my family hate the song. Anyway, putting that aside. They fail to compare the vocal prowess of other performers who will take votes away from there favourite by the jury’s. I pull my hair out trying to drill it into them.

On Top rock-fans are not very likely to tune in in masses, especially because queer people tent to tune in very much so, so rock entries have it harder and only won, when they really brought something special… I don‘t see that for „Rim Tim Tagi Dim“ - I’m sorry but that‘s my opinion. This year's voting rule change says that the voting lines stay open for other countries than the performers for 24 hours, from the last dress rehearsals to the beginning of the actual final shows. Croatia and Netherlands are gonna fight for the televote winner and are gonna take points from each other in that term. Switzerland is gonna take a solid amount of televote + a LOT of votes from the jury. Netherlands and Croatia are gonna get like no jury points unless something changes cause we all know that the jury sucks ass and just votes on how long you can hold a note or how loud you scream. Not to mention that Nemo is non-binary and it suits them to say "the first non-binary winner". Not saying Nemo is bad, I enjoy the song, but music like Baby Lasagna and's and Joost's is not something that the jury likes, which is sad. The only way I can see Croatia win is if it gets the most televotes, if it gets an okay place in the total jury points and if Nemo doesn't get a lot of jury votes and a lot of them go to Ukraine, Italy or France.

I thoroughly enjoy Norway, I’d love to see it win but I doubt it will appeal to enough people. It’s an acquired taste. Serbia is my ballad, I find it far more interesting than France… but that’s just me 🤷‍♂️

While i am praying for Croatia/Netherlands simply because I have a bet on those (Croatia @ 40/1 placed in March btw!!), I cannot predict where the winner will come from. So unbelievably excited for saturday.
Also Ireland climbing the odds every day and now sitting in 6th?!

As commented below, the rehearsals do matter in our prediction mode. So many strong visuals. And especially with the televote: Last year was very clear. But this year? Could be the UK, Ireland, Norway, Greece or even Spain or Malta. Maybe not as a winner? Who knows. There are a lot of songs which are getting a LOT of love. At this point I think Swizerland will be the winner. And it will be deserved. But the same for many other entries. The quality of the performances is amazing. It's down to the real deal. Next week!

The only entry among your prediction that I like is France. A real chanson in a more modern fashion, let's bring chanson back to ESC. Simple but so good and a wonderful singer with strong voice and carisma. Hope France doesn't make same mistake as last year trying to upscale the performance to a big scene, loosing the essence of the performance. Please, let it stay simple and let the cameras and the singer do the magic work. Like the song that Portugal won with some years ago, so beautiful and no fancy effects, and Cornelia Jakobs a couple of years ago is also a favourite. Otherwise Italy has been in the top for me recent years. For me Netherlands and Croatia this year don't appeal to me at all. Kind of vulgar in my eyes and ears, tiresome and very annoying. In the same league Finland last year was rather good though and much better, but the weak voice was a problem. Don't ever take the juries out of the ESC! I think the juries can see beyond the effects of light, nudity and so on, they judge more from quality than many of the televoters. Finally, thanks for your prediction, always nice to hear different opinons. Will be exciting to see those countries that haven't shown a live entry before. Don't think I will watch the semi finals, I'll settle with le grand finale with some good friends. Hope it will be a great show. Cheers!

At this point I feel like we’re going to see a compromise winner, with either the name of Italy or Ukraine. 2nd or 3rd in the juries, 3rd or 4th in the televote in the case of Italy or this but the opposite for Ukraine, and we’ll have a winner. Personally between these two I’m rooting for Ukraine.

    • @tomislavm8789
      @tomislavm8789 Před měsícem +1

Ukraine is too boring for both juries and public to give them high points. Two sentences over and over again for 2,5 minutes in monotone voice with few seconds of operatic singing over generic outdated beat.
There are at least 5 songs already having a place in final in final who are much, much better songs that juries will give high points to: italy, france, greece, uk, belgium...serbia, portugal, slovenia, denmark, azerbaijan, norway, armenia, latvia if they pass through.
Even croatia and ireland are more interesting for both juries and public.
I doubt that ukraine will win a single 12 from juries (maybe from polish). Most of them will go to France or Italy.

Ukrainian rap is one of my fav rap in the world. I love Switzerland so much and Croatia is the banger. I usually don't like France but he has something and I love Italy but there are several other songs that have a similar feel to Ms Mango - I think Greece in particular will take points away. Go Ireland and I hope Aus makes the grand final. And I just love Estonia!!

Great video, I really liked your in-depth analysis of all the strengths and weaknesses of each potential winner. However since it's clear you've recorded this before the beginning of rehearsals; do you think the probability of either Croatia or Italy winning the contest have gone up after Switzerland's less-than-convincing 2nd rehearsal?
The bookies seem to have already hopped off Nemo's hype train

Staging is almost perfect, Nemo is far from it.
The voice might be perfection, but the presentation looked like school performance of some 10 year old kid that went to drama class just to get better grades.
That's why Nemo fell so fast from first place after people saw his rehersal.
You must have the whole package, not just one ingredient.
