For anyone wondering about the rebel tree, a little backstory. In one of Jimmy’s previous Nordschleife videos, he had downloaded a snow theme which basically made all the trees and the ground appear covered in snow. Apart from one... the rebel tree. It had eluded the snow rendering and stayed green and vibrant, defiant.
(Please inform me if I have misunderstood the meaning behind this)
GTSpirit-R thanks man, been wondering ‘bout that
I thought he was saying Red Bull tree and Googled it to see if it was what one of the corners of the Nordschleife was called 🤣🤣🤣, that'll be why I found nothing then
Idea: What if cars were forced to go 1 lap in the Nordschleife during the race, like how a joker lap works in Rallycross
With 20 drivers, plus dirty air, that would be horrible. Also, it would completely fuck up the TV coverage
That would be awesome, no one knows who is ahead of who until they do the lap as well, if that makes sense
Aye great idea mate! Let the team decide when they want to do the North ring. Take permission from stewards a lap before and Marshalls will wave the flag so that the cars following behind will know the one ahead is going for the ring and act accordingly
Weather excluded, teams would mostly try to wait it out for as many opponents to do the lap as possible for more track rubber. They'd also find ways to deliberately do it together with another car ahead to get as much draft as possible on that insane straight to save fuel that they can dump on other laps. So it would mostly still be a flustercluck mob electing to fly down the Nord within a matter of 2-3 laps' space when the strategists think it's optimal.
That said, I 10/10 support this terrible idea for sheer badassery. Expect multiple totaled cars though.
Interestingly, expectation of others' accidents down The Long Way(TM) might instead push strategists to not overcrowd on the same lap so it might not be so bad. Not to mention a safety car can be deployed JUST FOR THE NORD SECTION WITHOUT STOPPING THE GP CIRCUIT
Mindblowing tactics
I always think of Stewart when i hear about F1 going back.
"Now if you go off in this corner you see that small tree? Well no that is the top of a very large tree so when you go off here you end up flying into a forest and it will take the marshal a week or longer to find you,"

Considering that the track is so big, one mistake might cost nothing
A feat never before seen in the history of Formula 1: passed by a Haas.
So true. The Haas's never actually passes anyone. Always just jump people on pit stops or get decent quali runs and kinda hang there all race, maybe drop a couple spots. I never see them actually overtake someone into a corner, or out of one.

The smallest number of laps that exceed 305km would be 13 laps at 317km for the endurance layout or 15 laps of just the Nordschliefe at 312km.
A real race woud take 12 laps in the combined circuit: 305km (lenght of all F1 races except Monaco, which is 260km) divided by 25.3 km = 12 laps. I think, however, Dottinger Höhe is outside FIA rules, as it's over 2km in length.

They won't race here because there's the possibility of a crash.
*Laughs in Isle of Man TT*
@Diamond Dog Survival of the fittest in action
the TT isnt even a profitable race for the teams that win, though. F1 is a business after all, sure the same "we are doing it for the rep that comes with it" logic could be applied but it'd be useless, seeing as winning any championship in F1 carries a lot of significance itself.
While I understand the safety arguments, and I know that in my lifetime it is just not going to happen, I'd love to see a 24hr madness with F1, LMPX and GTE cars all going around.
Part of me wonders if the endurance factor would slow down F1 cars enough in an attempt to last the race that they'd maybe become "safe", since there is no way the engines currently in use would last that long. Another part of me wants to know how an F1 driver with an F1 car would handle the traffic.
Alas, we got simracing to look into what that would be like.
f1 cars tyres simply could not keep up with that much downforce. there'd be several tons of tyres for each car. the axles probably couldn't handle the downforce either. and the downforce is what makes these cars fast, so eh
“THIS JUST IN, F1 CAR IS FAST” I’m actually wheezing omg
Dude you killed that lap for the track and car. Sheeeeeesh!
Fun fact: the Hamilton you were racing was actually Bottas since Hamilton finished 8th 13:09 :D
6:42 - 1:26 + 2 seconds of track not driven = 5:18 lap time, or on par with the 919 Evo fastest lap.
Sounds reasonable and matches Heidfelds estimate that his F1 could have done a 5:15 back when he tried hard for 80% of a lap.
No. Even the Porsche run was only something more than a demo like the BMW Sauber's one: avoiding kerbs, skipping Karussel, no DRS, max speed limited at 370 km/h, etc.. I guess mainly to don't take any risk in wrecking a more than unique prototype like the 919 EVO actually is.
A real full not limited time-attack run on a current gen F1 car easily could result in something very near to 5:00 or lower, probably also a F1 from 2000-2005 V10 era could lap so fast.
Fantastic Jimmy, loved it. Maximum F1 race distance would be 14 laps !!! which, at your 6 min 28.371 sec lap time, would last about 90 minutes, but GOD they'd be S**T SCARED !!!!!!
Back in the olden days, the Overtaking in F1 on the Nürburgring was limited to everything after Döttinger Höhe (last corner before the long straight) and Hatzenbach. With very few exceptions.

Heck everything is crazy and different, a race would be risky but a 1 v 1 tournament like they used to do in Bologna in the winters would be unique and interesting I think.
Happy to see the proper Nurburgring - the combined GP and Northern Loop - 25.378 km, this is where the 24h Nurburgring races at. They use the GP track pit lane. But for F1 race, the Northern Loop is too bumpy and too narrow. You can barely overtake there. It's a better track for drivers, rather than spectators, they same goes to Mount Panorama.
So we've done F1 at the Nordschleife, Le Mans and Mount Panorama..... time for F1 at Pescara and Targa Florio? I'd love to see that!
A standard F1 race is at least (with the sole exception of Monaco) 305km in length. In other words the least amount of laps needed to complete 305km. Thus, by taking the length of the circuit in question and dividing 305 by said circuit length we can get the approximate minimum amount of laps needed to complete a race. The Nürburgring Nordschliffe is 20.81 km in length, thus, 305 / 20.81 = 14.65 = 15. Therefore, an F1 race would be at the very least, only 15 laps! Lol
they should take an f1 car around this track, but at like 20mph the whole time so its safe but then they can still technically say that these modern f1 cars have been around the nordschleife
Jimmy: These cars are safe, but not that safe....
Grosjean: Hold my baguette
Hello Jimmy!
It would be a combination of crazy and carnage. Six to seven minute laps, if everyone even made one lap, with zero passing zones, never mind the massive amount of improvements needed. I'm old enough to remember when they last ran there in the 1970s - everyone remembers Lauda's accident. That would be a walk in the park.
On the combined circuit the race would be probably 12 laps. 305 km race distance would actually require 13 laps strictly speaking but I doubt they would add an extra 25 kilometers to the race distance
If we do the monster math; the average F1 race is 189.5 miles and the Nurburgring full circuit clocks in at 12.9 miles. So, that would make a race here 14 or 15 laps, depending on how you want to round your numbers.
I always wondered this ever since I watched the documentary; "Formula 1 Drivers Aka The Quick and the Dead"
ilms is at @ nords this week, its hard work getting an lmp1 round here cleanly, never mind an f1 car 😂
I think GT4 was the first time I ever took that track with a Formula 1 car (well, slightly shorter, no GP track) and it is hell even with just a wheel. I can't imagine what their bodies would be going through. The bumps alone at speed should destroy the cars.
The Nurburgring was one of my favourites out of the official tracks in early 1990s F1. Monza was my favourite, because I was always Maclaren before it was cool from Nikki Lauda times and it was only on Monza that I could get it into 6th and stay there for stretches. Nineties Nurburgring was slightly easier with less chicanes and it was just a nice drive through forest up the back of the circuit, even in 16 colours. Because I'm the sort of sad person who watches, downloads and sits through laps at Monaco (my least favourite) or rally stages through the ages is bound to sit through Jimmy doing laps somewhere. Although I actually found you years ago when trying to figure out Dirt 2.0. The concentration is great for clearing your mind of bad thoughts.
For me Spa-Francorchamps was always a pain in the arse, the 1970s drivers were right that it was dangerous (too). Some starts it's *that* hairpin and then after that bit there is the bit by the stands that invites you to go too fast and basically die in Fifth or Sixth in the little wood past that, especially in the wet. At least the Nurburgring has a sort of logic to it, but I agree it's better in a super transit van, or whatever.
this is awesome! Never stop this Jimmy!
Just imagine how much money would it take to make it F1 appropriate. Run off areas, kerbs, width of the track, bumpiness, trees... Renovation would probably surpass the whole building of the Yas Marina Circuit
If I ever have the money to start a own racing series this would be the rules:
1. Make the cars as fast as possible.
2. Max 7000 ccm
3. No driver aids, execpt ABS.

Not sure how long the engines would last, assuming the entire field didn't crash on the first lap or two. Back in '96, the engines weren't designed to run at max revs for more than about 30 seconds at a time (if the noise coming from Ilmor's test dynamo was anything to go buy)
I think i spotted Jimmer yesterday (Tuesday) in the GTR. He was going the opposite direction so i didn't wave but the GTR looked cool. I doubt he spotted the black RX8 going the opposite way in the queue of traffic.
Let's see: if a F1 Grand Prix would be held in Nordschleife...
A F1 race must be at least 305 kms, according to Wikipedia.
Total lenght of the Nordschleife is 24.433 kms. if we include the Grand Prix section (according to its official website), which was ran in this video.
305 / 24.433 = 12,48311
